Bells on MTB's? How do you warn other trail users?
At the recent Forestville Park PoM info day I was discussing some concerns that local residents had regarding Mountain Bikes on trails. There was an elderly couple who were worried about being collected by a bike on the local trails. They mentioned Cascades, which although a wide fire trail, has them concerned due to the high speed and lack of warning that MTB'ers give. Obviously on the Forestville single trail they couldn't reconcile how they were not going to be in danger when sharing the trial.

Appin update for 13 May
I did a long lap this morning taking in the Lost Track and the complete race loop plus some extra stuff. There were a few other people out there too. If more people were nice to their mothers every day they wouldn't need a special day and could have been out riding instead!
The Race Loop is amber to green. It is very good with only a few wet sections that still need you to ride through the middle of all the wet stuff and rutted sections or it's just going to get wider at those points. The second half of the track is definitely the wetter half. The new route coming down from the top of the track that bypasses the section going down the eroded, ledgy section running parallel to Appin Rd is firming up nicely and will be good for the Rock Wallaby race provided there is no rain between now and then. If it stays dry for the following weekend the new section will be brillaint, having had a few hundred riders bed it in!
The Lost Track is red to amber. There is a fair bit of trail widening going on and a bit of damage from motos, who are mostly riding the middle of the track. Some sections had deep puddles. Yes, we rode through the middle of everything, and I've since spent a while cleaning the bike, again!

If you could please show your support by turning up and applauding loudly when the pro-trail speakers address Councillors it will be enormously helpful. Please click to show you are attending.

Yellomundee Repairs Underway
Repairs to the track and surrounding areas at Yellomundee Regional Park (YRP) have kicked off in a big way. This follows the erosion damage caused by the heavy rainfall in Jan-April. On Saturday 12 May 2012, volunteers from WSMTB & BMORC along with NPWS staff and equipment repaired the entrance road areas just off Hawkesbury Rd and into the event carpark. Over 20 tonnes of imported crushed sandstone was used - paid for by WSMTB, and organised by NPWS Ranger Paul Glass. The NPWS bobcat was worked hard all day by Mick Chard (NPWS) - he did a great job.

Yellomundee Regional Park update for 13 May
Riding at Yellomundee is improving. WSMTB & BMORC volunteers alsong with NPWS staff and equipment have repaired the entrance road and carpark on 12 May. Over 20 tonnes of crushed sandstone was used (purchased by WSMTB). Some new water bars on the tracks and general repairs were carried out. The nice little loop just north of Shaws Farm is back in play, along with some areas to the south just before Max's Bridge.
General track conditions are good - but please avoid the soft areas after any rain.
Note that the descent to the Trotting Track is still closed, and both bridges overs Shaws Creek are gone. This cuts out most of the tracks north of Shaws Farm Rd. The Tower of Power areas above the Fire Road are still closed - awaiting repairs.
When you see the call for helpers for the next Track Maintenance morning - please consider coming to help out.

XC VP WSMTB
