Manly Dam.. things to look out for
Hi All,
Been a while since I've ridden Manly Dam(last ride there was probably in January), from what I've read here the trail have somewhat changed quite a bit.
Thinking of riding it lunchtime today, just wondering which tricky bits I should look out for ?
cheers,
Mario

First time 100km!
First 100km ever, was very nervous before the start, especially as I had been without the bike for 8 weeks leading upto the race (long story short an issue with my Scott dealer meant me rear shock service took 7 weeks longer than expected!!). I rode with a mate (you probably all saw him - the only guy with white tyres on the 100km course!!), and had a blast.
We started at the back of wave 2 - and quickly found our road riding came in useful working our way through the pack until we reached the big hill. After conquering about 25% of the hill we walked the rest mindful of the legs!

Team Monkey Farm - First Timers
Crikey. That was tough. 8 hours on the bike becomes a bit of a chore!
Our teams rough plan was to just finish. Which we did. Nearly half of us did not even get to start though which was a shame. The initial team of 7 dropped to 4 with mainly broken bones the order of the day for a few of us in the lead up to the race. (Hope all are recovering well) An approx 7.30 time was a target and we missed that by a bit but all came in safe so we have to be happy with that. We just keeping ourselves moving all day with a bit of banter that goes a long way to helping you get across the line.

Kiwarrak State Forest 6 May 2012
The ride didn't start on the best foot when I found I'd left my Camelbak with my bits and bobs, maps, pump and spare tube in Sydney.
Ah, well, I haven't had a puncture in ages and after checking the tyres there were no frayed sidewall sections and they felt like they had enough pressure. Last time I did a solo mission up here the trail was really well marked so I decided to take a risk.

No Front Wheel
Obviously I don't get out much. I thought that 29ers were the next "big thing." But this week, on three separate occasions riding around Manly Dam, I have seen three (3) different people riding unicycles.
I don't know how they do it: How do they get up hills? How do they steer? How do they control their speed? What about getting over obstacles? How do they get under all the overhanging branches?
None of these riders was dressed like a clown, so I'm assuming it is serious.
Is it time for me to lose that front "training" wheel and jump onto the next big thing?

Managed to get sick leading into this race so was still a bit apprehensive sitting on the start line even though I had done a good training session on Thursday. Got to the first hill in the lead pack fairly comfortably and then got blocked by an inconsiderate rider on the early part of the hill. Doc rode past me while I walked up to a water bar to restart. Didn't ride that well in the first fire road section through to the first water stop although after that sharp right hander and the start of the techie section began to enjoy myself.
