Slow - starting over

Date:
8 Apr 12

Did a couple of 53's back to back. Crap bike control on the climbs and had to stop a couple of times to get the HR back down but gotta start somewhere I suppose.

I like that this circuit gives you a full body workout and shows up any weaknesses Sticking out tongue It's good to get back into it Smiling

Manly Dam update for 08 Apr

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Green/Open

Rode this morning. Some wet firetrail sections but otherwise all good.

Watch the approach to 19th Hole - after the trail straightens out, you need to wind it up and keep the bike level in flight so you don't dig a front wheel in. Last 19th Hole roll-down is quite narrow - make sure you sight your line early.

Overcoming fear

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Not having ridden anything remotely technical since busting my collarbone last year except for one tentative and nervous run down to the hydro lab, I thought I'd ease back in today by trying the short section of trail that runs around the back of the nursing homes and ends at Allambie Oval.

The heavy rainfall from February to March has certainly had an effect: both on the trail, by eroding it more, deepening drop-offs and uncovering more rocks and roots to catch unwary riders; and on me - I'm *super* rusty. The trail is a very different beast from when I last rode it.

Need some wheel advice

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Had a bit of a mishap today - managed to reverse the car, with bikes on the bike rack, into a concrete pillar in an underground carpark. Bottom line is I've completely knackered the o/h's rear wheel - the cassette is warped, and the hub is twisted as well.

Cascades update for 07 Apr

Area:
Cascades
Status:
Amber/Some Issues

Rode yesterday. Track is now very dry except a couple of bog holes. Heath track (off Ryland/Wyatt end) to Bare Creek has been totally wiped clean and is smooth, except water bars have been introduced between the current water bars and existing water bars have increased in size. The water bars force you to slow down now. Not sure how good it is yet, its more like 4x track. Lower Cambourne has also been redone from end to end with new water bars and grading. Cascades track from Acron is no different and in good condition as is Cascades to Davidson. There is no machinery around so maybe they have finished. Quarry track is same with baby head rocks and some erosion.

It is a new riding experience so take care. Some water bars are so steep you could OTB into them. Looking forward to another ride to find some lines and air.

My Whyte 146 Test Ride

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I’ve was talking to the importer of Whyte Bikes from the UK a few weeks back and mentioned I’d seen the very sexy 146 full page advertisement he’s been running in the AMB magazine – black carbon bike with green bits. During the discussion I mentioned I was off to Thailand and he asked if I was stopping at Singapore which I was as we always travel Singapore Airlines for work. Cut a long story short he organised for a 146 (as in 146mm travel all mountain bike) to be dropped at my brother’s house in Singapore for me to play with last weekend on my way to Thailand.
