Are 26" XC racers redundant?
Having spent the last few rides on my new big wheeler Hard tail I am now seriously questioning whether there is any future for high spec 26" hard tail racers.
I may take this even further and ask whether the 26" xc duallie race bike's days are also numbered.
On the big wheels a slight loss of immediate acceleration is the only noticeable downside to the big wheel format that I have noticed, the new bike is smoother & faster plus cost 30% less than my 1kg lighter 26" racer.

Wheels and Rotors
So am looking at running a second set of wheels as I like to run fat tyres for the summer grip/downhill fun and skinner faster tubeless tyres for XC racing/events. I have seen the Shimano XT Wheelset (M785) for around $400 which is about the max I want to pay and was wondering if anyone rides these or has tried them? I’m looking for a tubeless ready pair, that are light’ish but still strong… I current ride basic Deore hubs with Alex XC-44 hubs.

Gearing
It’s about time for a bit of TLC on my bike and my rear cassette and chain rings need replacing… I am thinking of upgrading from a non descript shimano FC-M552, which has 42x32x24 to the SLX triple with 44x32x22. As such with the smaller inner chain-ring on the SLX would it be wise to move from a 11-36 Cassette (which I have now) to a 11-34?
I’ve so far never felt that I’ve ran out of gears on the hills, but I am unsure if a two “teeth” smaller on the front will make a lot of difference…

Isn't it odd how we all value used bikes..... Discussion topic
Based on nothing more than observation over the last few years I always seem to find it odd that some categories of bikes seem to naturally demand disproportionate prices compared to others.
Cast an eye over the classifieds here and in other areas of selling and you will see the same trend.
Downhill bikes, although generally the same value new tend to depreciate like lead balloons. A fair way up the ladder comes dual suspension trail and all mountain machines. Topped by road bikes that tend to lose the least amount of value over a similar period of time.

Bike build advice
Hi All,
I am currently starting to get all the parts to build my new bike, looking at making it more of a DH setup as they frame can be used for both FR & DH.
I am trying to decide on either Fox 40s or Boxxer World Cups up front, just am after any advice, which one handles the Perth ride areas better, where are service centres if requiried?
Also has anyone got any parts from the below site? There prices seem too good to be true, any help on this would be great. I am looking at getting the front forks from them.

Enduro Saddle
I am after some input on a good Enduro Saddle, I have tried Specialized, WTB and Fizik with uncomfortable results after 3hrs.
What do other people use and why?

So how much could Mountain Biking be worth to Australia?
Just caught this about my home town . . . .
Thought I would share
And wonder . . . . . how much could the sport be worth here?
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/advertising/news/artic...
The economic value of mountainbiking in Rotorua's Whakarewarewa Forest has been estimated at five times its annual timber revenue and looks set to increase as promotions raise awareness of what is on offer.
[Mod. moved to Australia as it's a lesson for the whole country!]

New Zealand
I have a week off in April. I want to go to New Zealand to have a look at their legendary trails.
So for the lucky ones that have been there:
Rotorua or Queenstown?
Take my own bike (Stumpy) or hire one there?
What is the weather like in April?
Cheers,
Cyril
