Lights - Suggestions

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

What's a good light kit suitable for riding in the bush at night for around $300 - are there any? Just can't justify the $500 or so for a new set of ayup's but really want to do some night riding - damn Perth & their no daylight savings rubbish.

Any help will be appreciated - see my note in the wanted classifieds if you've got any

Cheers,
Phil

RockShox Forks servicing

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I have a set of Rock Shox Recon Race forks on my current bike that are not performing as they once did (remote lock-out no longer works, forks 'bottom out' on a regular basis). Is it cheaper to buy a new fork online (Wiggle etc), or service/repair existing forks? Sounds like a dumb question, but some cheap 2011 forks are available online! If a service is the sensible option, could someone recommend me a good bike shop up to the task? Cheers!

29er hardtail build. Fork, brake & tyre advice please

Hi All
I'm about to build myself a modest 29er hardtail using a new frame, fork and wheelset plus a heap of old cast offs.
If you are running big wheels at the moment I am interested in your views on the following:
1. With the bigger wheels & weighing 85kg would I be better off using 180 discs than 160s? (XT brakes)
2. I will be using an old 9 speed 42,32,24 - 12-34 gear set up. What would you recomend as a good 29er gear spread? I was considering a 2 x 10 set up.
3. Do the same tyre combinations work for 29"? If so I'll probably stick to Schwalbe or Maxxis.

Feedback appreciated.

carbon frame build

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

ok so got a $400 carbon frame from CD and put the thing together .first ride today and i must say very impressed with the way it rides and how strong it feels.

seems very stable thru corners and climbs very easily well it does compared to my monteri3 avanti that the frame replaced.

just awaiting new handlebars and seatpost to complete the build.

My New Pivot Mach 5.7

Been waiting a while for a bike like this. Rides awesome, took it for a spin on the KC last night. Very Happy and a big thanks to Chris and Angus at Cycle Bespoke in Bayswater for such a good build. The old Giant VT will be gathering cobwebs now.

Custom Frame Building Perth

Hi Guys,

After building my first Frame around the start of the year, I got the Bug. Big time.
Frame building is both extremely challenging and rewarding.

Some of you may have seen my original trussed frame, 4130 Chromolly design. Worked well, but the geometry was a bit off and a little bit flexy. Next was my twin down tube design, very stiff front end, geometry needed a little more tweeking. And it was heavy 2.8 kg for the Frame! Built very tough tho, I am sure it could handle just about anything 99% of riders could throw at it.

the frame is currently a avanti monteri 2011 but even after the below upgrades i dont feel the frames working for me.

sid xx 100mm
elixer 3 brakes
