Is any one up for a ride on saturday morning?

I was thinking a nice ride somewhere, no crazy pace just wanna get back out on the bike again!

im not too fussed about location just as long as it is not too far from the central coast.

Andersons & The Oaks - DW Training Ride 6th April

I would like to do Andersons & The Oaks as a training ride for the dirtworks so a medium to quick pace and minimal stops would be the order of the day I can only do this and will definitely (rain or shine) do it on the 6th of April.

As I haven't done this ride before it would be great to have a guide so if anyone is interested in showing me/us the way that would be great A reasonably early start 7.00am or or a bit earlier is always my preferred option.

Opportunity Knocks!

I think you guys have already provided me with contact info but.....I work at Fairfield Council so I have links into what is happening in the new Western Sydney Parklands; where the old Olympic MTB track used to be. The old mountain bike track is gone now as Council was made responsible for maintaining it after the Olympics and could not get 'user pays' to work.

To whom it may concern,

My name is Greg Pike; I live in Belrose and ride my mountain bike with a group of fellow local residents (Northern Beaches Mountain Bike Group). One area we enjoy riding is the trails in and around Oxford Falls, off Morgan road, near the remote control Aero Club.

MWMTB or other organised trail advocacy?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

So, getting little traction in organising anything here I'm wondering what my club MWMTB is doing for trail advocacy in sydney? (having paid my admittedly paltry fee...) From a pretty brief search on Farkin and the MWMTB website all I could see related to trail advocacy was that the MWMTB trail advocacy officer is Paul Lidgard. But what's he done with my $10 Eye-wink

We're really not very good at publicising what we do in this respect so I'm left frustrated and optionless to do anything useful other than write waste paper basket fillers to pollies.

Power Output

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Warning: Nerd content (and probably inaccurate at that) below!

Just now I was pondering efforts at the Quarry Climb and was curious as to what amount of power is being put out on that climb. Yes, yes, have some time this morning... Eye-wink

Anyhow, so I start with basic fizziks:

1. Power = work done / time taken

2. Work done = force on object x distance object is moved

3. Forget anything fancy (as I don't know)... force on object = mass x gravity if you lift it in a straight line.

Chain Suck Issue

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi,

I've ridden Belrose - St Ives - Davidson trails about 10 times in the last month on a Cannondale F7. My limited knowledge is the components aren't great on this bike. On the second ride I got severe chainsuck and bent the crap out of the chain and considerable damage to the chainstay.

24 Hour Results

35th Lap - Solo 24hr

In case you didn't know, this weekend saw the 24 Hour Solo Champs, in which three gallant riders were listed.

Huge congratulations to Carlgroover who placed 12th overall and 2nd in his category with 35 laps in 24h33m. I don't know how you do it!

Damien has a DNF with 20 laps in 21h13m - don't know what happened here, but that doesn't look anything to be ashamed of!

Reading from MTB-OZ seems the Egg injured his legs and must be feeling pretty disappointed after doing 18 laps in 10h47m. The Spoon (who isn't on here but is a local lad deserving of support) sounds to have had some trouble...

first review (Trace X)

hi, yep I've done the Manly Dam last week end Terrey Hills yesterday.
It's a great bike, especially the dual suspension sucking up everything, nice and light too, I jumped off much higher than I expected over a waterbar which took me by surprise on the Long Track and nearly fell off lol
Brakes are super powerful and gear changing nice and smooth.

Parts of Oxford Falls Officially Closed

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

A mate of mine rode little Moab yesterday morning and said there is a massive 'no bikes' sign at the start of the XC loop where it branches off next to the Aero club gate.

Apparently the sign says there are Aboriginal carvings and fines of up to $5000 for causing trail damage (whatever that is defined as).

Apparently the same sign is at the entrance to a certain track that starts up on Mona Vale rd.

I just read with interest the forum on National parks interest in this site. Guess it makes it pretty easy for them to monitor what trails are where.

An Australian Poem for Easter

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Some of you (of more recent English extraction) may not be aware of a famous old Australia Poem. Hence I will share it with you. It may explain why some old aussie people are not that push bike friendly. They may remember the horse days too well. This is a poem I learned to recite as a child of about 5 for my Grandfather (who was a horse lover). I think it's about early DownHill... LOL.

He turned away the good old horse that served him many days;

MTB future

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Suggestions have been made to the committee regarding positive action and hopefully we can channel the same energy seen here.

Riders and walkers can share the trails but all parties need to be educated and aware of each other. I have found even recently, that walkers seem rather put out to keep left to let a single file of MTB'ers by.

But all my experience with the horse riders have been a positive, considerate and polite affair. We always stop and wait for the horses to pass. But we are the two groups with the most to loose?

National Parks interest in this site

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi all,

I took a call from a national parks ranger recently, noting to us that some of the trails marked on this site were 'illegal' trails.

He has requested a meeting with Robin and I. I also spoke at length today to Adam from Club Mud, who has also spoken to National Parks.

The issue at the moment seems to be that there is a lot of direction coming down to close trails, with zero community input (in my humble opinion).

All those that would like to say their piece say 'Aye'... Ok, my eardrums just broke.

Which tracks to start with ?

G'day,

I'd like to ride on a couple of Northern Beaches/Sydney tracks over the easter long weekend with my new Giant X1 but when I go to the rides section there are so many I don't know where to start...

I've already done the Manly Dam last Saturday which was a bit too technical and dangerous for a first time (fell off a few times because of uncleated shoes lol). I'd like to ride on some easy fire trails/single tracks not too technical so I can get used to the bike and the new stem I've just replaced and also learn to uncleat the shoes more quickly.

Cheers,

Best Mountain Bike
