Ah Andy, lets see

No. Last ride was a fortnight ago with you, at Duck Holes / Centre, and you boys nearly killed me then.

Since then I've finished the second week of the detox, didn't leaving me feeling any "stronger" in the legs than when you saw me. Oh yeah, then I had three days of squirty (_@_) which hasn't exactly helped either. If I get out at all it would be nice to actually enjoy the social ride.

Long and the short of it, am I up for a 35+km, 3hr ride.....not yet.

Hopefully see you all at the social one though.

Chain Suck

Has anyone got any theories? I have been on the cascades trail for the last few weeks. A lot of sand, water and some mud. When on the duale I get a lot of chain suck. I have been out on the hard tail three times this week on the same track same sand, water and mud and no chain suck. The hard tail has cheaper running gear but I use the same lube on both bikes.
This is my second dual suspension and it happens on both with the same conditions.
So my question is: are dual suspensions more inclined to have chain suck than hard tails.

Terracare?? It seems to have ground to a halt and there's not been a Dam day for a while? Is it the rain getting in the way or are we not putting in like we should?

Anyone have the inside track?

Matt.

Kincumber training ride

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi all,

I was wondering about getting into some more training rides. We have only a couple of months to get into shape for Dirtworks. What better way than a fun explore around Kincumber? Plenty of hills there. Fun uphills. And mega-fun downhills.

How does next weekend, Saturday 23rd or Sunday 24th sound?

There were a few side tracks that led off to who knows where which I wanted to have a look at. E.g. here: http://nobmob.com/node/2423 and here: http://nobmob.com/node/2422

Sponsors?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hmmmm... some of you might have just seen me giving T7 a plug and dropping the 'we now have a referral' link thing going with them. Anyone think this is a good or bad thing? I'd guess most are indifferent - if you have no feeling, no need to say so. Sticking out tongue

I think most of use know about their service and what they are about anyhow. If we stuck a little 'sponsors' box on the left (under the random image for example) this would promote them to people who don't know who they are, and also provide them with that referral.

Heart rate monitors - accuracy question

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi there

I have recently bought a cheap heart rate monitor/cycle computer from eBay (oh no, sounds bad already doesn't it?) and I reckon the thing is wildly out. If I measure my resting pulse it's about 60bpm but the HRM says it's about 90 and bounces around quite a lot. The seller is telling me there is nothing wrong with it and in fact you can't measure using a watch and a fingers technique, that the device is far more accurate. I wonder if anyone with experience of these devices could help me out?

Wilderness mountain-bike expedition

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Any interest from any one in a 5-6 day wilderness mtb expedition in Wollemi/Yengo NP's?
Probably best time autumn or spring.
My rough idea is to start at Dunns Swamp near Rysltone on western edge of Wollemi NP, climb Mt Corricudgy then continue on the Hunter trail via 3ways to the Putty road and then Howes Valley 4WD trails via Finchley aboriginal site to Bucketty, pick up Old Great North Rd south to Wisemans Ferry then Womerah Range track to Putty and back via 3 ways to Dunns Swamp.
Makes me breathless just writing about it! Probably a couple of thousand metres of ascent!

Manly Dam Open

Hip, hip... Smiling

Have just heard Manly Dam is officially open again.

If anyone rides it in the next few days can someone post a comment on how it's dryed out and coped with the rain?

Update 15 Feb: The word from the... erm... trail is that there's still a lot of standing water and quiet a bit of erosion gone on. If you possibly can stay away and let things dry out this would probably help a lot!

GPS on Mobiles Becoming Common

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

We get GPS devices mentioned quiet a lot here so thought this worth a mention. There's just been some big mobile show in Barcelona where all the manufactures bring out their toys. GPS on a mobile looks like becoming the next big thing. Think how rare a camera or MP3 player was in a mobile three years back to see where this will go.

In particular the Nokia 6210 gizmo looks cool:

...It is the first GPS phone from Nokia that includes integrated compass for guiding users on foot.

Menai this Saturday?

Anyone interested in another run around Menai this weekend? A few of you have mentioned a wish to get back there and explore some more. I would be good for either day, but I will post the ride based on the consensus.

Andy Bloot - are you able to contact this fella down there and ask if he can play tour guide? Wasn't he on Farkin?

Old School Bikes

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

All this rainy weather talk of hard tails and single speeds lead me to look up the BMX bike I bought back in 1980 (I think) and still have, it’s a Moosegoose over sized frame BMX bike with 20" tyres. (Hmmmmm Chromemoly frames)

http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/mongoose/96

I wonder how it would go with a set of suspension forks?

Probably worth more as an antique (Christine would know)

It still looks nice hanging with the rest of the stable of bikes, DRY unused bikes !!!! I need sunshine Bad.

Tien, Lozza and I will probably try and do Duck/Centre tomorrow afternoon if the weather is favourable. Most likely after 3pm as I have Army drill practice in the morning....fun fun.

If interested and if it's not raining tomorrow give me a call. Number is in my profile.

Raleigh Winner

In my teens I was riding a Raleigh Winner. I'm still pretty much the same size (it was 21" from what I remember) so that frame would be ideal. It's probably still in the old man's garage. I wonder if he takes it apart how much the frame would weigh and home much sending it over would cost?

There's a load of reminiscing (or is that pi$$ taking) about that bike here: http://www.cyclingforums.com/showthread.php?t=54241

Ahhh... those were the days Eye-wink

Wanted - Old Hard tail for Single Speed conversion

Wanted an old hard tail for conversion to a single speed, preferrably with a good set of suspension forks. The rest of the running gear will proably be replaced.

Frame size = large (I'm 6 foot) and frame and forks should have disc brake mounts

Give me a call or send a PM if you have something I may be interested in.
