Belangelo State Forest

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Rob has talked up the Belangelo State Forest recently, which is out past Mittagong. There was supposed to be some cool trails in there. And some recent trail maintenance / improvements as well. I have never ridden there, but wanted to give this a look in the next month or so.

A brief search on Google does not turn up much about MTB there. Possibly a search through moto-x stuff might turn up something. I would not even know where to park. Although I bet there are some nice secluded areas to frequent. I hear some people are just dying to try it.

Site Outages

Dear all,

Hope most haven't noticed, but unfortunately some will have (especially after this afternoon) this site has been a bit on/off the last few days.

Appologies for that - something to do with hardware upgrades that weren't as straight forward as they were meant to be. This seems to have caused a few instabilities to creep into the system. Sad as before it was rock solid for over 260 days!

Anyhow - please bear with us - this is a development 'play' machine after all and hope it will be back to all faithful soon.

Beginners ride this weekend

...in going for a beginners ride this weekend? Open to suggestions regarding location. I haven't done any riding since before Christmas and really need to build up my confidence again. Have done Manly Dam in the wet. If I go riding on my own, I do the fire trail near Terrey Hills, but I’m getting a bit bored with that. I can do Saturday or Sunday. Cheers, Anke

Recommendations for custom Jerseys/Knicks

Hey,

Long time lurker first time posting ^_^

I have a Jersey/Knicks design I want to get made up and I am trying to find a place that produces good quality matched with a reasonable price.

I only want a small quantity run, around 6-8 jerseys and 4-6 knicks. Though I am not to fussed if I can not get the knicks made.

Any suggestions??

Long travel forks.

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Just from looking around it seems that most bikes have roughly the same suspension either end of the bike. Yet when you look at bikes like the M3 and V10 they have 10" on the back and only 8" on the front. I understand that there isn't actually 10" of stroke on the back and that its a function of the frame movement but is it not possible to have a 10" travel fork? I'm sure some of those mtx bikes must be 10" forks on them right?

Recent MD trail maintenance issue?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

My 11yo son and I did a short section of the MD trail this morning, from down behind the Lutheran Homes on down through the boardwalk, kids playground and Southern Sojourn - about a third of the circuit.

The descent from Lutheran homes was scary, with lots of loose rocks and sand on the trail that wasn't there when we last rode it a few weeks ago, and other parts of the trail seem to have had a lot of deeper sand and loose rocks etc graded into them, that wasn't there last week.

GNR Pre Dirtworks

Hi,

Is anyone up for a ride of the GNR as a preparation for the dirtworks? I haven't done it before so I need someone to come along who knows where they are going. But I'm keen to do the 50km course. Probably a Sun morning in Feb would be a good time.

Tips on a planing a trip to Thredbo

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi All,

I am planning a trip to Thredbo some time in March with a group of guys, maybe some girlfriends and familys too. We plan on doing 2-3 days of Downhill riding. I have looked at the Raw NRG website and know about the courses etc. My first question is should i take my Specialized Enduro SL or hire one of their DH rigs? My next question is putting it out there to people who have been before and might have any tips on accommodation, what to take, how to save a bit of cash etc.

New shock link for 05 Stumpjumper 120

I have managed to crack the shock link on an 05 Stumpy
There is no replacement in Oz (according to Supreme cycles) and am checking OS- it can't be re-welded
And I don't think later model linkage fits (or I guess they would have told me)
I need the entire shock link that bolts between the seat stays and the main frame
Any suggestions on where to find a replacement?

STOLEN - Giant NRS 2.0 and GT ZUM 1.0

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

As of yesterday I have had both my bicycles stolen - One Giant NRS2.0 and one GT ZUM 1.0

I have no one to blame but myself (and the bastard/s that did it) - but nonetheless, on the off chance that someone who reads this comes accross either of these machines on eBay or in clasifieds or elsewhere, I thought it would be worth posting.

Here's a quick description of each in case you see something similar and think it might be mine.

Giant NRS 2.0
Frame is small and metalic red.
Shock is RockShox SID Rear
Forks are RockShox Psylo U-Turn (80-125mm)
Mavic UST tubeless rims

Clipless pedal choice

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi there

I've got a new bike on order and it doesn't come with pedals so I need to make a choice about what clipless pedal to get for it.

I currently ride using Shimano M520 SPDs and they have worked fairly well over the last year or so. However I seem to be pulling out of these pedals more frequently now even with new cleats and more tension dialled in. Perhaps the pedal mechanism is wearing away?

Oxford Falls XC loop in Garigal National Park

Anyone ridden there lately?

See : http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=111903

Apparently NPWS is going to crack down on riders on the cross country loop. Mountain bike riding isn't allowed on singletrack according to the Garigal plan of management.

Mountain biking in Nepal - have you been there?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi there - question for some really steep hills...

I am heading to Kathmandu, Nepal tomorrow (for work) and want to look into the local mountain bike scene as well.

I'll be over there again in Feb / March 08 and potentially go on on of the guided tours leaving from Pokhara, Jomosom or KTM. Has anyone been there for MTB? How good are the local rental bikes (they use mainly relatively low-tech hardtails with v-brakes etc to ensure parts supply...)?

Is it feasible to take my trusty FSR dually or will it be crushed on the plane?
