Pikey (which means that's Ev and I in the background):

Lucas heights
Some good technical XC loops that follow along side of a creek.
XC loops range from 10ks to maybe 25ks
Also a few short free ride trails (but no shuttle access, so your pushing it back to the top)
Park oposite the nuclear reactor entrance on New Illawarra Rd,
The main trails start just down the gravel embankment on the western side of the road,
Watch out for dirtbikes, they wont give way...

Cramps - what I have learnt
Hey all, thought I would share a few years worth of experience with cramping and how it may be avoided.
We all know inadequate hydration is one culprit, but it is also worth noting excessive water will exacerbate it.
For me, I finish any event in hot (or in fact any) weather with a salt crusted helmet strap, pack straps and clothing - mute testimony to the amount of salts I am losing (but then I am a prolific sweater - paedophile on a school bus kinda thing) and how much I need to replace.

Night Ride Anyone?
Does anyone want to do a night ride this week? I don't mind where, but suspect the Dam and Oxford Falls will be too wet...I don't care if it's Wednesday or Tuesday night either...

DH forks, marzocchi 66 vs Fox 40's
Hi,
I'm riding a giant glory0 (the free-ride model). It currently has a pair of Marzocchi 66SL 1 ATA Air, 140-180mm. And i'm thinking of putting on some Fox 40's... Cause I reckon I would be better of with some fat double crown forks to lift the front end a bit higher...
Does anyone have any advice on this idea? Do you think its worthwhile? Are dual crown forks that much better than single??
Cheers,
Nik

Riding saturday
Looking to ride some cross country tomorrow, maybe terrey hill again like last week? saturday afternoon seems like a good time as the weather seems to clear up in the afternoons! Anybody keen?

Xmas BBQ?
Erm... quick... don't look now but seems like there's this Christmas time coming.
Seems the thing to do about now is arrange a BBQ!
Where? Manly Dam of course.
When? Ah... erm... how about Dec 8, 9, 15 or 16 (8th is already out)? Early arvo? Preceded by a lap of the Dam of course.
Any takers? Any preference on the dates? Perhaps I should contact Nicole and see if there's space!
All sorted, on Dec 15:

Red Hill DH
Hey all
The original DH track at Red Hill thats half being rebuilt was the only DH at Red Hill besides 100m Hill, Gardener Gully and Drop zone, but apparently theres another. Its fair trek to get to but its full of drop offs, and its near motocross madness?(something like that)
Can anyone help with this?
True/false?
Directions?
Cheers

Thanks
Cheers Doug

The bike trail at Manly Dam is currently closed due to wet conditions. Once again we'll send out a note when we've reopened.

never one to shy away from asking silly questions
Oky dok...as the subject suggests -I'm not one to shy away from the embarrassing questons...so.. can someone pretty please explain ....chamois cream and when this ought to be used?
recommend - not recommend?
I have been riding in some random 24 hour and 12 hour mtb races recently, however one has to laugh when you reach the final few laps and everyone in the team cannot bear to sit down on that saddle again...is this where the chamois cream becomes the star of the event?
Random thoughts, comments, meaningless trivea appreciated.
Cheers.

Manly Dam Open?
Does anyone know if Manly dam is open at the moment after all the rain we have been having. Trying to figure out if a ride this Saturday is going to be possible.

Has everyone noticed the new weather maps as well?
I think we should buy our webmaster stuff more often, he has been a busy boy over the weekend what with all the ride updates and now the weather graph updates. If we keep going he might get webcams of our favourite trails as well so we can see just whats going on on them, like the snow cams.
Keep up the great work mate.

Deflating UST tyres
I've had UST tyres for about 2 months with no problems, only needing to occasionaly top them up.
Then all of a sudden on Thursday morning after a Wednesday Night ride they were flat as a tack.
I pumped them up to 40 pounds and there is no apparent leakage (of air or sealant), then 48 hours later they were flat again.
I thought they were supposed to be self sealing, has anyone had this problem with UST's or know how to fix it.

Beechworth, Thredbo and Bermagui end of year
Heading down to Albury at end of year (boxing Day) and going to hit up Beechworth and then a couple of days in Thredbo , before coming back via Bermagui Mtb park anyone interested in coming down around those dates to sync up some rides (back in sydney around NY, although thinking about spending NYE in thredbo) your more than welcome, should be an absolute blast!- Ill post back in a few days when things a bit more concrete, anyone keen especially for Thredbo around then though, let me know and ill look into the bookings etc..
Cheers,
Alex

Mont Bee?
Don't know how this slipped past MTB-OZ without reply, but I'm posting here 'cos I found it amusing.
Someone originally asked:
What's this???
http://www.mtbwagga.asn.au/gallery/main.php?g2_i...
And how did it get past scrutineering with those finger chopping wheels?
To which I replied:
A bumble bee?
OK, OK - the picture from said link:
Does no-one else see it?

New and keen for DH
Hey,
I've just recently signed up to this site.
I live on the south side of sydney and am keen to make the trip north to check out the oxford falls DH.
So do you guys hook up on weekends and run shuttles? cause that would be sweet to get involved in, I'm getting kinda sick of pushing my bike back to the top of some local runs around my area...
So i guess its best to just keep an eye on upcomming rides yeah?
Cheers
Nik

Dented Crossmax XL Rim
I've just got back from a ride and found a dent in my Crossmax. Anyone had the same problems before and know how to repair it? Or is there a Mavic service centre or a bike shop that will do repairs?
Thanks in advance.

Best MTB computer?
Just wondering if any one can recommend a decent bike computer that can handle rugged conditions. Extra features such as Cadence (RPM) & Altitude would be great, without the expense of buying a Garmin Cycling GPS. What is better, Wired or Wireless?

Damaged Yeti @ Cascades
So... where is the best place to pickup a 2005 Yeti 575 rear derailleur hanger?
http://picasaweb.google.com/lozza6/YetiBrokenHanger
Somehow caught a big branch into the spokes.. and it got spun round to the top and took the whole derailleur with it.... Did not pedal but just stopped... got off to have a look....... Rear derailleur sitting on top of the chainstay... doh
