Tracks for Families

Hello All

1st time Blog.
New to MTB. Tried Manly Dam, it was sensational.
Then took my nine year old son along, ended up pushing two bikes up the big hills.

Question: Does anybody recommend any starter trails suited for kids?

Cheers

Alice Springs

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi,
what about this one:

"Alice Springs has a new MTB event... The Bullroarer
For those familar with the Central Australian Bike Challenge, the Bullroarer is the CABC re-invented!!!
Taking place from the 18th - 24th May 2008, this event is single track heaven winding through the West McDonnell rangers.
There is 7 racing stages over 5 days with the start and finish in one central location - that's right no need for car hire or support crew assistance. Each stage ranges from a 500m hill sprint to a 90km epic. There is a mixture of fire roads, sand, some single track and many thorns.

Crossmark Exception

Finally back on the bike after 9 long weeks (I even did my first jigsaw puzzle), and I'm buying my bike some new tyres. I'm wondering if the Crossmark Exceptions mean more flats, especially as my lines aren't as smooth as I would like them to be. Is the increased performance worth it? Maxxis says they are 'race only', and not sure whether to go for these or the regulars.

Prescription Riding Glasses

Having given up on contacts which irritate me too much, I'm in the market for some prescription riding glasses.

I've noticed a few people wearing them and wondered if anyone had any good experiences in getting something reasonably priced, not too flash, that don't steam up too easily.

Thanks in advance,
Matt.

My turn to ask for help !!!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Ok Lesson number 1 don't order gear online after a bottle of red and six beers. (It also makes you think that what ever you buy online late at night is totally justifide and the wife won't find out anyway, not!)

Lesson 2 double check what you have ordered then check it again, but I thought I did that so don't bother with lesson 2 if you didn't heed lesson 1.

I now own a SRAM Cassette PG-830 11-32 8 speed. Should have been 9 speed.

Question: will my Shimano 9 speed shift still work ok on the 8 if I fit it?

manly dam mantainence

hi, who is wasting their time putting in berms and concreting in rocks at the dam???

If you want a 4x track then go to home bush,

If you want concrete, go to centenial park,

Leave the place alone, and stop ruining it,

you guys have created more than one dam up there.

cheers

Silly Cheapskate Question About Expired Gels

I was going through my pantry and I discovered some Endura and GU energy gels that I thought I would use for Ourimbah this weekend.

The problem is, the gels expired in 2006.

Errr ... for the sake of saving a few dollars, is it worth taking the risk by using them? I'm cheap and I hate to see food go to waste.

Fox Talas stuck at max travel

My Fox Talas are supposed to have or at least it did have 3 travel settings but today its stuck on max travel, anyone had this before or know how to fix it as store I bought it from will send away to be repaired and they're not sure how long this will take and I'd prefer not to send it if there's an easy fix.

had huge brake issues over last 3 weeks, first with a seeming air bubble making front lever go all the way to bars without gripping at random times (usually when i needed it most!) tried bleeding myself *slap* and made it worse, then foolishly squeezed lever with no pads in and popped out piston, then tried to push piston back in, slipped and broke off post, then bought new piston and tried to reinstall, rounding the bridging bolt in the caliper using a worn allen wrench, subsequently tasking it to a shop to get drilled out and rebuilt...THEN got it home to find 5 hours+ of re-bleeding had no

Bike Advice: Stumpjumper Comp vs Genius MC30

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi, was gutted last Wed to find my garage open and my slightly ageing but much-loved Giant XTC3 missing. Have just recovered enough to workout that the only way around this is to invest in another bike!

Seems to make sense to go for a dual suspension this time. Could anybody provide an opinion / advice between the Stumpjumper Comp and the Scott Genius 30? Could also look at the Elite/MC20, but not quite conviced at what you get for the extra investment, and for the Scott, have heard that carbon frames can be problematic if you stack...

Bicycle Film Festival

This looks interesting:

http://bicyclefilmfestival.com/2007_site/sydney/

Have booked tickets to Prog 4 + 6. They said it's quiet quiet at this stage but not to leave it too long if you want to get in.

Watching We Just Work Here then having a few drinks and some food before Klunkerz sounds like a nice lazy afternoon Smiling

Anyone else?

Cheers!

Chain Reaction Order

If anyone is ordering gear from ChainReaction over the next week or so could they let me know please. I'm after a set of grips I haven't been able to find anywhere else but can't justify the 25pound postage cost.

Thanks

Best of both Worlds ?? - which pedal

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi All,

Have been looking at replacing my current platform (came with the bike) pedals with something that takes cleats, but as I have never ridden with them before, thought I might get the best of both worlds by getting a set of pedals with both cage and cleats. Both Shimano and Crank Brothers have a number of models - M424, M545 and M647 (Shimano) and Smarty, Candy C and Mallet C (Crank).

Hi Paul

You beat me by 30 seconds - even though we rolled across the line together. Some cunning tactic?

Anyway, well done mate!!!

RNP on Sat?

Anyone feel like coming along? Nothing silly early, like.

Fling Vertical

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

So, you all know The Fling was easy, right? Didn't have any big hills, right? Worst of 'em was the Halfway Hill which was only 75m or something, right?

LOL... nope! Rob has been telling people this, but noticed on his GPS profile the bottom of Halfway Hill was almost a full 100m lower than the organiser's profile made it. Wow, that makes that a 175m climb which is a bit more of a challenge - how can they be so wrong?
