I'm heading down to Rosedale, just south of Batemans Bay. Anyone got any suggestions on rides in the area or where I can find out info.

What bike to get???

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I currently ride a Norco Six 3 and am looking at getting something a little lighter. I started riding in 2000 on a Giant XTC NRS (it is just collecting dust) and I do like the ride of the Norco but it is just over 17kg. The below bikes range from 12-13kg and I think will suit what trails I ride most often . I have narrowed it down three bikes at this stage. I am only looking at bikes with 5 inches of travel as I think they start getting too heavy with my budget being $3500 max.

The order I have them in is;

1. Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp

Do you have older - say 40 plus - riders? Looking for fitness rides not heavily technical.

This is my first post and it might seem strange that I'm joined you whilst I'm in the UK. But hope to be back in Manly (maybe Feb) and was thrilled to find a group of MTBrs that already exist in the Northern Beaches. Am hoping to join in some rides and was trying to find a bit more about the personal profiles of the riders - but all I could find was text about rides. Can I look up info about riders??

Coach Rd Wolgan Valley

This is a classic ride with some options.
We rode it one way, getting our better halves to meet us at the bottom for a picnic and a lift out.
A round trip is possible a a longish 1 day ride, but if you are coming from further afield a better option would be to camp in the valley. It's a lovely spot and there is plenty to do and explore down stream

The ride can be started at Bell Station or Mt Victoria for a longer option but we started in Lithgow.
This means a bit of haul up the Drift but it's worth it... Or so I kept telling myself on the way up.

Sunday 30/12 afternoon ride

Guys, I'm playing handyman Sunday morning (staining the deck) so will be eager for a ride Sunday arvo.

I'm thinking 4.00pm should be cool enough to knock off a lazy 20k's (a couple of laps of the dam or Cascades/St Ives or Duck Holes/Waratah/Centre).

If anyone else is interested, let me know, other wise I'll power up the MP3 and go it solo.

New Years Day Ride?

George suggested a New Years Day ride - I don't know if anyone will be up to it BUT... I was in Terrey Hills earlier today and the bread/coffee shop is open on new years day so I wondered if anyone would like to do perimeter/long trail as a super social ride?
Thing is, i am not on line again from now as I am not at work again so if someone DOES say yes can someone please text me with a time etc?
And no! DO NOT MAKE IT EARLY PLEASE!!!

Happy New Year!

Best track to improve my fitness

Is the answer to this any track will do? I'm doing a circuit of Manly Dam twice a week and in the new year I intend to add a third or maybe somewhere else at the weekend, I too will beat that hill.

I was thinking of doing some K's on the road to improve my fitness but I'm not sure how much this would help for off road? Add to that the fact that I would need to buy some slicker wheels or maybe a whole new bike and the idea has less appeal and I'm certianly not buying into all thay lycra.

Any advice on good tracks for this?

Cheers

Just wondering if anyone out there in the ether knows whether there are any cross country mountain bike trails near Bluey's Beach. Heading up there on the weekend.

Getting Back On The Bike After An Injury

I got back on my mountain bike for the first time yesterday after breaking my finger a couple of months ago.

Basically my confidence is all gone I rode Manly Dam and strugled everything looked ten times bigger. I even had a silly little crash in the mud and put the exact same hand out again but didnt break anything this time. I guess the body can heal but the mind needs to be retrained.

I think I will go for an easy ride up the Oaks before going back to the dam.

Any sugestions.

Tackling HeartBreak Hill....

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Yes,

I know Im an old f*rt and have only been MTBing a few months but Im frustrated having to walk up Heartbreak and some of the other "hills" at Manly Dam every time.

I have tried going down gears which usually ends up with me spinning the rear wheel or veering off into a heap. Should I be using a middle chain ring/low gear and standing up although most of the people pasing me are sitting down and churning up the hill.

08 Shimano XTR FD M970 front derailleur $100

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Ok, so the guy I "sold" it to apparently has a very special bike. It's such a special bike that it won't accept any derailleurs with standard mounting brackets, so special in fact when he needs to replace it he has to go and buy a special bike specific one from that special bike company, got you by the short curlys there mate haven't they Eye-wink

This means that my mistake coupled with his special luck is now your good luck, and I've even dropped the price.

NZO 24hr or 12hr or 100km April 5 and 6

entries are now open for the NZO 24hr weekend, you can choose between 24hr, 12hr and 100km race.

I did the 24hr in 07 and was alot of fun, short track of about 10km long, fairly flat, only a few smallish hills to negotiate, bit of single track, fire trail the usual stuff.
I dont really want to camp overnight this year so i am thinking of just doing the 100km option (10 laps i guess it will be)
Discounts are available of 10% at the moment if you enter before Jan 5.

new (old) gloves...

I'm trying to hunt down a set of older model 661 comp gloves...I think from the 2004 or 2005 range. I really like these gloves, and the newer ones around just don't do it for me Sad

Has anyone seen these around?

Sounds like a great idea Flynny!

Ever wanted to get a bunch of mates together and take on the world in
a team based down hill event???

>>From the demented minds of CTMBC and Bright Oragne Events we give you
the 8hrs of DH.

Taking place on the Lidsdale triple track (the short courses used for
the Lithgow state round)

The basic concept is teams of 3. Each rider gets 2 runs on each track
