Racing on Furious Fred?

Avertised at around 350g for a 29:er tyre got my attention.

Does anyone have experience using these at races? Will they work as a rear tyre at e.g. Ourimbah (assuming it is reasonably dry) without flats? Can they be setup as tubless or will it require massive amounts of sealant?

My concern is ripping a sidewall and the race is over but the weight is very attractive so if they do work then it could be the way to go.

Anyone who's been through this and can offer their experience?

Cheers!

Seat clamp size

Hi SILLY question....my saddle post width is 28.2. I want to purchase a new seat post clamp. Is this the size I buy or is it based on the frame tube diameter. This is one of the challenges of buying online....you need to get it right first time!
Thanks

which XC shoes?

My trusty old Shimano M087 shoes are nearing the end of their life so I'm wondering what people wear and/or recommend. I'm not stuck on Shimano shoes but they do have to take SPD cleats. My budget is max $200.

Found Fluro Jacket

Found Fluro Jacket at Red Hill this morning. Looked Like it had fallen out of a backpack. There were a few trail runners before us if anyone knows them.

PM me the colour or brand to arrange to collect.

which shop for fork service?

Hello,

I need to get my Rockshox Reba serviced. Anyone recommend a good lbs for this. I am in the Homebush area. I was thinking of TBSM even though its a bit far. Any opinions on their fork services? What sort of price do most lbs charge?

Thanks

Howdy all

I'm looking to do a trip to Rotorua later this year with the youngsta when he finishes his HSC, probably week 1 of December. We're more into XC than the DH end of the spectrum, although if there's any descending to be done I'm sure he wouldn't say no to being shuttled to the top.

Are there any mtb tours / operators that people can recommend? Have you found it better to BYO bike or hire there?

Thanks for your help Smiling

Take, buy or hire? - Traveling with a bike and kids

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm off to the UK for 3 weeks with the family in June/July and I want to keep riding whilst I'm there. There's also 'some bike race' in July that practically goes past my mum's front door Eye-wink

My options are:

Take my own
Pros: It's my bike
Cons: Juggling with other luggage, 2 kids, Central London and travel up to Yorkshire. Need to bag it or box it.
Anyone got any tips?

Hire one for 3 weeks
Cons: Expensive for a piece of shit spec bike
Pros: I hand it back (hopefully in one piece)

Buy one on eBay
Cons: Left with a bike to move on

Bantry Bay trail construction starts.

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Good news! NPWS's Bantry Bay mtb trail construction is underway at last. Phase 1 is the single track off the Curry Rd fire trail. The more technical leg on the eastern side will be phase 2.

Some trails have been closed, such as the link to the Forestville Park rugby fields that run over the rock with the aboriginal carvings. Please respect these closures as failure to do so will jeopardize negotiations for future trails, as has already happened with Oxford Falls trails on Aboriginal Land Council land.

This is Peaty season 3

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Steve Peat has been at the sharp end of world cup DH for 20yrs
To be able to do that in any sport is inspiring. To be able to do it in such an intensely physical and injury prone sport like DH is legendary.

To be able to do it and still clearly enjoy it with such infectious enthusiasm is something else entirely

Simple upgrades to make for a first time racer?

Hello everyone!
A few friends and I from high school (NHSPA) are going to enter the first XC race my school has ever seen. Being my first (and my peers) race, I was hoping if anyone know's any small but effective/budget friendly upgrades to make to a bike in order to make it more race applicable? I own a 2011 spesh hardrock with 80mm of travel and we will be racing for the intermediate class mid june at yellomundee.

If there is anything extra someone would like to add, maybe about race nutrition, preparation or tactics - please feel free to share!

Cheers
Rueben

Enjoying your training

Two things happen to me that cause me to prepare hard in reference to a certain date. The first is each engineering exam period. To put things quite frankly, it‘s a drag. I'm sure this semester will be particularly so due to it being the hardest I've done so far. Needless to say, I look forward to this period with no pleasure and will be very relieved when is all done.

Sea of Rock

http://youtu.be/rCGXSNSk50Y

Harald Philipp & Tom Oehler reveal a story long lost. A bicycle hanging in a climbing route guards the entrance to a vast mountain range. The story leads us to two guys who almost invented the mountainbike and killed themselves in only one day. Watch the story unfold...

Alternatively, just marvel at the riding skills and scenery Eye-wink
