Manitou Fork

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has had experience with minutou forks? Ive busted the end bolt at the bottom of my fox forks so decided to replace.

I found this deal on CRC: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/au/en/manitou...

Any opinions out there?

Cheers

Rear shock length

Hi folks, just wandering if ypu can put a slightly longer shock onto the back end of a giant cypher. The shock length (eye to eye)appears to be about 185mm,would a slightly longer shock be ok?Im guessing that it would be slightly more compressed than normal, but should work allright. Im Mr Magoo when it comes to bike tech sadly....

Elite Category

In most races I've done there is an Elite category. What governs who race in that category? I was studying the results of the last race and realised many in that category were slower than regular weekend warriors racing in the "normal" age categories.

Are certain riders forced to that group or is it self governed?

Switching between a single speed 29'er and a dually 29'er...some advice pls

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I recently bought a single speed hard tail 29er. I currently also have a dually 29er which i really enjoy.

The set-up is very similar to my dually which has served me faithfully without any physical issues to date. The only difference is the Thomson set-back seat post and the 80 shock (much lower in the front on the SS. I also have a riser bar on the SS as opposed to a flat bar on the Dually.

Overhaul or upgrade Tektro Novela brakes?

Hey guys,

The bike I've got at the moment (Fuji Nevada 3.0) has Tektro Novela brakes. They are pretty poor, I can't lock the back wheel no matter how hard I try and on a moderately steep slope front+back brake won't bring the bike to a stop. When pulling hard on the levers there is a spongy feel, as if the cables are stretching.

I'll share my new toy ...

Since getting a 29er (Trek Rumblefish) the 26 dually (Scott Genius RC) wasn't getting much love or attention. It wasn't as quick as the 29er and I missed having a hardtail to play with. So, I ditched the Genius frame and found a brand new Cannondale Furio frameset. This was one of the last 'handmade in the US' frames by Cannondale I believe and the attention to detail is incredible!

Coaching Recommendation

Hi Guys,
I have been riding for a few years now, mainly All Mountain stuff and some Downhill on the North side and I've hit a bit of a wall when it comes to improving my skills. I have raced the last couple of Roller Coaster Gravity Enduro races and was a bit disappointed in my times.

Anyways, like a lot of others, I am self taught and I think that is where the problem is. So I've decide to get some coaching and was wondering if anyone can give me some recommendations for private coaching in Sydney. Any help is much appreciated.

Tyres for 26" Fuji Nevada 3.0

I'VE COMPLETELY EDITED THIS POST, I had a change of heart Smiling I was going to buy a 29er but $400-500 would get me a bike almost identical to what I have now just with slightly bigger wheels, so now I'm just looking for good 26" tyres to fit put on my current bike as it has road tyres on at the moment and I want to play in the dirt Smiling

I am in Newcastle, my closest trails seem to be rocky/gravelly hard pack, also I will be riding the bike ~8km each way on the road from home to the trails and back.

Any advice on a set of tyres for a beginner on this bike would be greatly appreciated Smiling

Bantry Bay progress?

Hi NobMob'ers,

Does anyone have an update on the Bantry Bay trails? I've seen some building materials at the top of the natural bridge track and there's a new "Trail Closed" at the exit point near the bottom of the Currie Road fire trail.

So something's going on just can't find any info on start / end dates for construction.

Thanks

Found some great single tracks at Marmong Point, Lake McQuarie over Easter.Start from toilet block, ride up grassy hill behind houses, across the gravel fire trail road into a single line, follow main track. Bridges the lot.
Have fun.

Fitness training tyres

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Looking for advice on a solid fitness or commuter type tyre that I can use on my dually MTB around Akuna, McCarrs and West Head roads. I'm just about worn through on my current 26 x 2.0 knobbly's and would like to upgrade to a more "road" specific tyre. There's no money in the kitty for a roadie bike plus I don't really like the riding position anyway. I have a spare set of cheap MTB wheels complete with rotors and cassette that I swap out when riding the bitumen.

Main criteria:

26 x 1.25
Low puncture rate (tough)
Easy roller
Won't break the bank

Interesting bike tech

Being stuck inside with the dreaded lurgy while the sun shines brightly outside, I've been getting my mtb fix by surfing the web.

Interesting new XC shock from Euro suspension shop BOS - under 200g!

Probably won't fit on my Scalpel, but it seems fine on this Rocky Mountain Element:

FOUND-Wheel

Found a front wheel a while ago at a manly dam parking spot, when down there to ride with a mate.

Left a note and took the wheel, after we had done a couple of laps. My mate took it home with him and we expected for the owner to contact him.

Just spoke to him on the phone and we remembered it, turns out it hasn't been picked up.

So, if you lost a front wheel in this area a little while ago, and can describe it to me, send me a pm.....cheers LL

Local Trails

Hi guys I live in Glenbrook and i was just wondering if anyone could PM me some details about local trails. I ride The Oaks and Andersons several times a week, so they are getting a little old. I've also ridden most of the rides on thefathippys website. Any details on Katoomba singletrack or less known trails would really help me out. Thanks in advance.

Awaba This Weekend

Anyone have a recent condition update for Awaba? The latest update on the home page was from 4 days ago. Been much rain since?

We're staying in Maitland over Easter and i'd like to head out to Awaba if it's not too wet.

Ourimbah status?

Has anyone ridden Ourimbah recently? Thinking of heading there on Friday but I haven't seen a trail status since the rain we had this week so not sure if it's in good condition?
