Bikers ... a charming bunch

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

This morning dawned overcast and perfect to screw our courage to the sticking point and give Manly Dam track a try. My girl friend and I have been cycling gently for about a year. Nothing too energetic, and more often than not, around Narrabeen Lagoon, but we've kept going. This was a quantum leap, and we hoped to survive.

Roadies hitting the trails

Saw one of the more interesting sites on manly dam today. As I was heading up heart break a guy on a roadie was coming down. I wonder if someone was inspired by road bike party!!!

Bare Creek Bike Plan - Dedicated MTB Facilities for the Northern Beaches. Help Required Now!

Do you want a purpose built bike park on the Northern Beaches - one that is dedicated Mountain Biking? A plan is proposed for such a facility at Belrose Waste Management Centre after it closes soon, but...

Help is needed to get this plan approved. Can you help by emailing the local councillors and expressing your views? Just something simple that explains you are behind the plan is all it would take.

The next council meeting is 27th May, so these emails need to find their target before that date. If you could attend the meeting to show support all the better.

The councillor's email addresses: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

More background can be found in this thread: Bare Creek Bike Park.

Thank you.

Access to Kinross Sat/Sun 24/25 May 2014

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Just a note to everyone heading out to Kinross this weekend (24 and 25 May 2014).

Construction of the Macquarie Pipeline is happening on Bulgas Road between Orange and Kinross over the next few days, so either be prepared for some delays or head into Kinross the back way (via Banjo Patterson Way).

It's likely there will be some roadworks etc there for the next week or two, but the majority of work (and delays) will occur this weekend.

Cane Creek Stockists

Anybody know a shop in Sydney that stocks Cane Creek stuff?

I'm after a lower headset for a bike I'm building but after waiting 3 weeks for CRC to deliver I'm ready to cut my losses and buy one locally.

Dear Friends,

I just started the petition "Build Upper Blue Mountains Cycling Trail Now or Unlock the Gate to existing track" and wanted to ask if you could add your name too.

This campaign means a lot to me and the more support we can get behind it, the better chance we have of succeeding. You can read more and sign the petition here:

Thank you!

How much exercise ?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

This came across my information flow and it touches on some stuff me and my training buddies sometimes ask ourselves. Don't know if this is of general interest or not. If you don't think you are at risk of over exercise then there is no point reading this stuff.

Is what we do good for us? We've all been told exercise is good but is more better?

Bare Creek Bike Park

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

You may be aware of the proposal to build a multi-use MTB park at Belrose. With the landfill at the tip closing in November 2014 it is now time to gain momentum for this project. Bare Creek Bike Park would combine XC, DH, AM, Flow, Jump, Pump and CX as well as areas for skills and junior riders
Please see the attached proposal developed by Seuter Planners with the help of IMBA Australia; http://www.wamc.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_fil...

Ideas on a used bike for $800ish

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

So this is an extension of my brakes thread... it kinda went off topic and turned into a 'what new bike should i buy' thread so here's a new one.

I've realised my $100 Fuji is basically rooted, I was going to spend a bit making it comfortable but after pulling a few bits apart last night it seems it just wouldn't be worth it. Everything I look at is pretty much shagged... worn, bent or broken. So I am in the market for a new bike and $800 sits alright with me. I would think about $1000 but it would need to be a MAD deal with pretty much guaranteed resale..

Basic nutrition?

Hey
Another novice here.

I was wondering, is there a general rule of things you need to keep replenishing during your rides? Obviously water and carbs but Im not too sure as to how much or when? Any tips or guides would be very much appreciated!

Cheers

Is anybody here going to race in this event? I am doing all 4 days, and I expect to be pretty stuffed by the end. Smiling

Also, as this race will pass through Glenrock I wonder what sort of impact, if any, there might be on the trails. Although I've only been in Newcastle for 3 years I don't recall seeing any race days here.

Cheers,
Jake

Trail ettiquette

Excuse the rant but I felt compelled to share.

I was very busy out on the Perimeter and Long Tracks today everybody from Mum-n-Daugther to the boys clearing 4 metres off the water bars, horses, walkers you name it.

There was plenty of give and take on the trail with the vast majority of riders ensuring everyone had a great time .. but

On 2 occasions I was forced off the trail by riders 2 abreast coming at me who totally refused to yield. I also came up on one group riding 2 wide in the sandpit area, the irony was not 100m earlier was a sign saying keep left unless overtaking.

Oaks new single track was heaps of fun

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I rode the Oaks trail today, apparently it was the opening day of the new single track.

The section that's been updated is what I would describe as the 3rd bit of single track, the section that starts off to the right after a bit of a ride down the dirt road.

Being brand new it was very "MTB Park" and pretty smooth but there were some great technical sections / drops, one that almost owned me. Give it some wet and a few hundred riders and it will only get better IMO.

Unfortunately due to other commitments we could only do 1 run. I can't wait to go back.

Chopper dropping building materials in Bantry Bay

Update on Bantry Bay. I had a letter box drop yesterday advising of helicopters operating today and next Friday due to trail building Smiling

I wasn't home today but apparently it was running non stop from 09:00 to 3:30 today.

So all good signs that trail construction is about to kick off.

Noise when climbing

Hi Team,

Recently my bike is making some noises when climbing.

It's only when really grinding up a steep hill.

To me it sounds like the brake discs are rubbing the pads and making the noise.

But when looking over the bike both discs run freely through the pads, no rubbing at all.

Really annoys me on my night rides cranking up the hills in Cascades and you get the squeak squeal noises.

Any ideas on what to look at?

Bike is Specialized Camber Expert Carbon Evo (2014).

Cheers,
Mike.

Any feedback on 99bikes shop in Artarmon ?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I am in Waverton, looking for a shop to fine-tune my MTB at a fair price before a race.
So far I have two options :
- bike bug on the pacific hwy in north sydney. They have a 100$ standard rate.
or
- 99 bikes shop in Artarmon. They have a cheaper service rate but not sure it is great.

Basically my bike is in good shape (trek6000 from 2010, not a fancy bike) but needs a some adjustments with brakes making noise, RD hanger brand new so the whole gear tune has to be done and cleaning. I'd like to stay under the 100$ if possible...

Off chance that this person visits this forum as he looked all ready to line up at the next enduro.

Just saw something that bothers me enough to get all grumpy about it.. Enough to post it anyways..

To the MTB dude shredding the foot path between dee why and brookvale, nearly taking out that pedestrian.
Very Not cool dude..

Folks are the rear hangers on all Giant Anthems the same? I have a damaged frame with hanger still connected and my wife has a anthem W 29 X4 both 2012 models with shimano derailleur's XT vs Deore. Plan is to take the derailleur off the damaged frame so my wife has a spare for long rides.
