DH around newie this week? (guide)
Anyone fancy taking a newbie out for some DH sometime in the next week or so? I will probably have an early finish at work tomorrow (lunchtime-mid arvo) and it looks like I should have time free on Saturday and Sunday.
I've just bought a Reign and it's only seen a couple of rides in Lismore, keen to get it into Glenrock or any other downhill spots in the area.
Can travel
Cheers,
Dan.
Singapore
So I'm on a school exchange to singapore for the next 5 weeks, and I'm already missing my bike.
I understand there's a small scale bike park with a few trails, does anybody know of any riding, including this, and anywhere i can hire a decent bike?
I know it's a longshot but i might as well ask
Cheers
Chris
How do you clean the dust wiper on your fork
Hi there
Bit of a noob question but how do you clean around your dust wipers on your fork? Is it ok to hose it with a garden hose on low pressure? Will water seep into the fork?
Thanks
LOST keys @ Kinross forest
I've lost the keys to my bike rack and I'm reasonably sure the last time I had them was at the carpark off Bulgas Rd.
I think I've either dropped them there or they've come out my pocket when I stacked it on the North Shore section.
If anyone comes across them, can you contact me through here.
It's annoying as this is the first time I've used the rack and I'd not separated the spare keys yet and lost the lot.
Thanks, Pete
Ourimbah vs Mt Annan - the verdict
There has been some discussion after the Shimano GP event at Ourimbah wether Mt Annan would be as challenging or not with various view put forward.
This unresolved issue were taking over my consciousness and I had to get it resolved so I just had to take one for the team and go and do a thorough assessment and bring closure to this very important matter. Today was the day to do it. No rain for a long time, blue skies, lubed up chain and the camel back full of water.
OMV
Is OMV stage 1 or 2 open? Here in the cave by the fire I don't have Face Book or Twitter, too busy hiding from the dinosaurs.
One for the MUMS
Mid/Upper Mountains Singletrack riders that is
All you facebookers out there, go to the link for info etc on (as the name would suggest) mid to upper mountains singletrack
https://www.facebook.com/groups/176565649208791/
This is not just for locals
It's for anyone who fancies a bit of a drive to some lesser known and uncrowded singletrack gems
Note there is limited parking, and please be respectful of the peace and solitude of these areas (I know everyone on this site is, but it still needs to be said)
So no 5 car convoys, please
Shimano ZEE?
Has anyone used a Shimano Zee crank set yet? How are they different to the other Shimano range of cranks? I'm thinking of putting a set on my single speed to replace my existing one. Anyone tried this yet?
The mornings may be cold
But the afternoons have been glorious.
Been taking advantage of my early afternoon finish times and Tal being on school holidays to get some quality father and son time in
7hr races in late 2014??
I am wondering whether there is any multi-lap endurance races between 6-8hr in length during November or December later this year and preferably within 3/4hrs drive of Newcastle. Just looking for suggestions because there doesn't seem to be any longer events on.
9mm Axle upgrade to 12mm?
Hi everyone been thinking of doing this for a while but not sure if its actually possible. I want to upgrade my 9mm skewer rear axle to a 12mm thru axle. Obviously i would need to change hubs but is it possible with the 9mm dropouts? Apparently it can be done but im not sure with the dropouts?
Cheers.
Ice tech rotors melt
Interesting vid from a german road bike site. Apparently the UCI is set to legalise discs for road racing in 2016, so all the roadies are madly checking out what it all means.
This is a worst-case test, where they load a road bike up with 200k of weight including rider. I'm not sure about the rotor size, my deutsch is long since forgotten, perhaps the native speakers on this site might be able to help, but comment from the site I picked this up from seems to indicate they are only 140s.
The interesting bit is about a minute from the end.
Thanks to Cyclists helping in Manly Dam
Just a quick note to say thanks to the cyclist that that helped me yesterday in Manly Dam. I went over the handle bars in the 19th hole area in and ended up with a dislocated shoulder and some nasty skin burns. I was riding alone so the 2 guys that were riding behind me (I didn't catch their names) helped me out to the street (one of the guys even improvised an arm sling). Not only that they called an ambulance and waited there till they showed up.
Two other MTB riders took care of my bike and possessions.
Bike boxing for flight travel .. Is this bike box a Tardis?
A while back I got a cardboard bike box from a bike shop and there was no way I was going to get my bike in the box so I figured it was a small box. I went back the other week and made sure I got a full size box, a box that actually housed a 29er, but there is no way I can get my bike into the box.
When I went back to the bike shop today the guys looked at me like I was a freak.
I have a Reign 26" - stock shock and same model tyres as it sold with.
Brrrrrr... snow!
In case you aren't linked up with CWORBC, just spotted this post by Grant over there: Snowy Mt Nob.
Brrrrrrr!
Chain Slapping and Falling off
Hiya,
New to the sport and have a recurring problem. I am riding a 29er hardtail and keep dropping my chain when riding on rougher terrain, usually downhill. It slaps about pretty hard as well.
I have looked up chain guides and the like, but note that they seem to work for one or two chain ring set ups, where I have 3. Also, I was wondering whether a chain tensioner might do the trick - or both.
I would appreciate any advice anyone has on what I can do equipment or set up wise to try and minimise this.
Tyre choices and Chain Guides
Just wondering what the 27.5 guys are running and where to buy. Currently have Schwalbes Racing Ralphs which for the front are ok and the rear is dreadful and have worn down in a couple of months riding.
Great if you want to slide into the berms but let me down on the looser stuff.
Also want to know some more info on getting a good chain guide for my 1 x 11. I think I have 34teeth on a SRAM X01 and want to make sure that puppy is protected. Looking at the MRP G3 but would like some opinions out there in NobMob world.
Woodford weather
While I was searching for more weather info before we went of for the Care Flight Oaks trail challeng I found this site.It seamed that the main weather web pages don't have a weather station but relied on springwood and katoomba.
If anyone is thinking of doing the oaks trail but want true weather this seams like a good tool.
enjoy
4WD top of 100 mtr hIll today WTF....
Around 3pm where 100 mtr Hill meets main trail up from Maybrook and past the Abo carvings a ute & Suzuki 4wd's.
Kids looking for a way around to Cromer.
I did advise them they would be heavily fined if caught, I was more impressed with the fact they drove down and up from Maybrook.

Manly Dam Trackwork
Here's a quick video of the much discussed trackwork at Manly Dam.
Nothing fancy, just some footage as I was doing laps last Sunday (22 June 2014)
At the end I got a couple of lads doing the "A" line.
Cheers,
Mike.
Christchurch, New Zealand
I was back in NZ this week and talking to some mates about MTB.
They pointed me at this article and the fact it is like 5km from the centre of town.....
http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/hills-and-...
I started MTB in Chch 20 odd years ago, and back then it was a sweet place to ride. There have been many tracks put in since then and some very regular events.
They have a winter night race series which attracts upwards of 150 riders each race!
Airlie beach bike hire
Hi guys
Heading up to airlie beach for 10days of work in August, is there anywhere to hire a reasonable road bike while I am there? I have no access to a car and would like to do some training for the mont 24!
Any ideas are welcome!
