New AM bike or complete bike build
Hi,
Just wanting to know people's opinions on buying a new AM bike compared to buying a frame and components yourself.
From experience, have people found it more or less cost effective to source all the components yourself, including forks, dropper, tubeless wheelset, XT groupset? My guess is that it would work out the same or more expensive unless you found great deals on all components.
Thanks
Rainy weather idea
Downloaded Steve Peats film "won't back down" last night from Itunes. Top viewing and really nice respect shown to other riders, including australia's own Sam Hill. Worth a watch.
Lithgow to Wolgan
Been doing the ride as a round trip lately which makes it a big day
This time we did it one way and hired Madgestic buses to pick us up at the bottom which gave us a bit more time to enjoy the views.
Also arranged for some wood fired pizzas at the bottom which made a great end to the trip
Unlock the gate
"We would like urgent action to the intolerable state of affairs for people wishing to cycle between the towns of the Upper Blue Mountains.
Either unlock the gate to the track parallel to the railway line between Katoomba and Mt Victoria or else spend the $9 million now for a state of the art track.
"
Take a second to sign the petition. Seems ridiculous that maintenance crews can drive through but you can ride it
Help save Quarry Road Track!
Following my previous post regarding the apparent closure of two sections of the Quarry Road Track linking Dural from Hornsby, all SNORC members have received and email from them, and are paging all riders with a passion for preserving tracks to take some more action (in the midst of action for the building of other tracks):
"Dear XXXXX,
Berowra Valley Quarry Trail suddenly closed????
Here are the facts you need to know in order to still ride safely and legally.
Killingworth to Sugarloaf!
Hi,
I'm new to the forum. Just wondering, are there any trails which connect Killingworth to the top of the Sugarloaf Range? If so, can someone post a link to a track or the strava URL.
Thanks,
Chris

Awaba downhill
Hey guys me and a mate are just trying to Suss out a shuttle for Awaba dh track. We rode it on the weekend without one and we spent more time walking then riding. Is there a service that you can pay for that isn't costly or is there anyone out that would like to ride with us and we can share the driving. Cheers.
Highland Fling / Wingello Prep Camp / Ride
Hey all.
Hopefully this is deemed as 'non-commercial' - as its completely free!
If you werent on Facebook, or Twitter you wouldnt have seen that there is a free one day 'Highland Fling' training day being run at Wingello this weekend on Sunday - its all being arranged and coordinated by the good folk at Cyclery Northside.
I am running the day and am being ably assisted by Australian Junior XC rider Jayden Ward - who is fresh back from racing Junior World Cup, and the Bundesliga - he has skills to burn.
Wylde - Cecil Hills - Open ?
Is Wylde track at Cecil Hills actually open to the public now? Seeing a number of posts from others but note it is still listed as 'under construction' and 'opening 24th August'. I drove past the other day but all the fences were still up. Looking forward to riding it - would love to get a ride in before going to the official opening.

Bottom bracket squeek
As i'm sure its been done to death my bike is getting a few years old now and theres a little squeek under hard pedalling from the bb. I took out my cranks and there was plenty of grease and everything looked ok but i noticed the two bearings, while still running smooth, i could feel notchiness on them but not grabbing if that makes any sense? Its a Pressfit bb30 for reference.
Does that sound correct or could that be my squeek?
Thanks in advanced.
Jono.
MTB Baggies
Looking for new MTB shorts.Coming from old Fox rangers with built in liner that i have worn to death.
Any recommendations? what are people wearing and happy with?
They all look like board shorts to me, lots with no liner so do you wear normal roadie knicks under as a separate liner?
And whats the reason they all have belt loops? cannot see any point in that.
Not too keen on the Enduro way below the Knee length style either..
Cheers,
BH Bikes
Just an enquiry,
Has anyone heard of a bike brand called "BH", and more specifically, if anyone has, what do they think of their bikes?

Rider Down 19th Hole Manly Dam
Ohhhh Man cringe. Hope its not too bad. But looked like a broken ankle or something.
Ambulance was there & a few of his mates. Few other riders hanging around.
Decided to keep going since the ambulance was in attendance.
with these things its hardly ever a false alarm.
All the best and a speedy recovery for the rider.

Helmet Question
Howdy!
Another helmet question guys.
1. How to know if your helmet needs replacement after 2 to 3 years of using without hard impact or dent?
2. How to spot wear and tear on helmet?
Any help would be much appreciated.
I know its an old topic but...
Advice on drivetrains..
My current SLX rear cassette is on its way out and am thinking about getting rid and also removing the front mech for simplicity purposes.
The question is a 34t or 32t single chainring, combined with a 11/36 rear cassette.
My local trails are Terrey Hills 50k+ with Red Hill thrown in for good measure.
I ride up the Maybrook & Manly Dam big hill climbs generally in granny gear, will I be walking with the new conversion.? or just don't worry about it, accept the fact I am 45 and need the extra help.
Any advice is appreciated
