Hi Everyone, Just wondering if the climb from Wrights Creek Rd north towards Great Northern Rd(ie the Convict one) is private property? Or can it be accessed any time? Thanks, Adam

Mobius Action Camera review part 1

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

A few disclaimers before we start. I'm no cinematographer/videographer and I've not reviewed a camera before so be nice if I've missed anything. I'll drop a few links in amongst the text in the next part of the review where you can find much more info than I could ever hope to provide. If you have a question just ask and I'll answer as best I can.

Has Mountain Biking gone mainstream?

Over the years I have noticed a few things - Lots of women now out enjoying riding especially on the road which is great and an air of conservatism from other MTB'ers on the trails.

Stolen Bikes

Three bikes were stolen last night from the back of a friends car on Avalon.
What's really bad is two of them were only a week old as my friends had only just decided to get back into Mtb.
The two new bikes were Black Scott Genius 740s which I believe are 650b
The third was a White Cannondale Taurine which is an older but still very nice 26inch bike.
They weren't insured yet so the owners are really spewing.
Just thought I'd put it out there in case anyone sees or hears something?
Cheers

Wet weather riding at Manly Dam

As we all know, riding at the Dam when the trail is wet is frowned upon. Some work has been done to weather proof the trail in some locations, although there is still a long way to go.

This has been proposed as an interim solution.

Personally, I think we need a few more jumps and technical obstacles, and probably some mangroves to replicate that singletrack feeling, but I reckon it has promise. Not so keen on the rubber suit thing though. We get enough stick from the motoring public for wearing lycra. Puzzled

Trans Blue Mountains Trail - Lower Blue Mountains Zig Zag to Wolgan Valley and Mudgee

The Upper Mountains Trail Beside Rail advocacy was commenced by me in 1998 and I have been committed to ever since. The original group were some firies from Katoomba and some climbers from Blackheath, as well as Kevin from the old bike store in Katoomba. Back then we managed to get it into the council's original bike plan, after collecting 1000 signatures on a petition, and they have managed to get Greenway funding for feasibility studies and engineering survey projects since then. Lis Bastion and Richard Delaney were involved for a short period of time in the mid 2000’s .

Cheap 650b tyres

Whilst buying a very expensive replacement chain (that's what you get when you need it TODAY) I noticed some very cheap Racing Ralph's in at Inner City Cycles in Glebe. They are unlabelled but they tell me they are 650b.

They are taking them off new Giants when the customer wants some other tyre. They have a big basket of them about $20 each I think. Only the "performance" level but I've found these reliable for fronts (sidewall a bit weak for rears).

Enjoy!

SNORC OMV Event

From SNORC president, may be worth getting involved in for the new opening of Old Man's Valley. May be worthwhile to think about volunteering, particularly for those who have regularly competed but have yet to be at the "other side" of the race.

"Hi Guys,

This little but broad group email is to kick off a bit of discussion and idea gathering for an upcoming event.

MTB Weekend away from Sydney

Hi

I am looking at planning a 49ish birthday weekend for a bunch of mates. Does anybody have any recommendations of tour companies in the blue mountains, kangaroo valley, canberra, jindabyne, gloucester - some where a few hours out side of Sydney.

I am looking for a company that will take as much of the hassle of getting a bunch of blokes away for the weekend as possible. Some of the guys will have no experience or a bike.

Thanks in advance. (And sorry if I have posted this in the wrong forum!)

Red Hill destruction

Rode red hill today and to my dismay, witnessed what appears to be a freeway being built along the main trail. I can only assume that it has finally been earmarked for development and will be a housing estate in 12 months time.

Does anybody have any more information?

...if so, and you are around Terrey Hills, Duffys Forest, Belrose or Oxford Falls please can you keep your eye out for a missing horse?
It's grey with a black mane and tail and wearing purple tack.
He went missing this morning from Duffys Forest public arena, they have looked all day but not found him.
A search party will be gathering at 8am at Anembo Road of walkers and bike riders (you are welcome to join) to try and find him.

Centenary Trail

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Just finished riding the Centenary Trail, my wife and I decided to do it over two days, did the Southern end first, rode about 92KM. Track is good, great variation and signage wasn't too bad. The best of the Southern single track is from Kambah Pools to Tuggeranong, however, flow is spoilt somewhat by the number of gates you have to lift your bike over.

Rode the Northern section today, rode about 60km, lots of single track from Mulligans Flat to Hall, plenty of climbing too, the ride up One Tree Hill got the legs working. There weren't as many locked gates up North.

Fox to Pike??

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

My current trail bike is an Ibis Mojo HD 26. 160mm front and rear.

On the front is a Fox 34 talas 120-160, and most the time around Kalamunda I use the 120mm setting.
I've never been thrilled with the Fox, especially after replacing the rear with a cane creek, and after hearing good things about it, I've been thinking about putting a 160mm Pike on the front for a long time.

For the KC, what do you guys think about running 160mm the whole time (as the Pike isn't height adjustable)?

Demo/Test days (brands or shops)?

Is there any such events coming up in the next months?

Specialized 'Test the Best' seems to off for a few months

I remember seeing a Trek test day at Manly Dam. But can find anything online.

What about other brands or shops?
Love to try a Scott or Canondale.
