Racing ralph that wont tear

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hello,
Just after some advice on a Racing ralph for the rear of my 26' Dually.
I use the tyre a lot around Kalamunda but find I keep tearing holes through them.
They tear through the tread not the side wall. I like the RR tyre and hope to keep using them.
I use the tubeless ready EVO type. Has anyone tried the snakeskin version?
Is that any stronger?
Thanks

Hi all

I've recently got back on the bike after recovering from a ruptured ACL and have been riding to work through glenrock twice a week to get the strength and fitness back. Its hard to find the motivation to ride by myself so I thought I'd put it out there to see if anyone is keen to join me.

Rear tyre - kalamunda trails

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I need a new rear tyre. I have worn out my racing Ralph. Was never really happy with it. I found it slipped a bit much , especially when riding up hills.

Any other suggestions for an AM type rear tyre.a bit more grippy but not too heavy. And what width.

I'm riding a 26" dual suspension. Mainly in the Perth hills.

Thanks.

Ps. I have a nobby nic front. 2.25 wide. Brand new and happy with it.

Rockshox Monarch BASIC set-up & tuning guide

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

G'day all,
Here is a BASIC Rockshox Monarch RT3 rear shock set-up and tuning guide that I put together for anyone who needs it.
No info came with my bike, nor in any online manual, so I compiled a basic set of notes. It's just a SIMPLE starting place for playing around with your suspension set-up. Based on a 2012 model but it will probably help for other models. I originally posted it on mtbr and got some rep/thanks, so also posting it here for the locals...

You can find it here:

Trying To Choose a Scott Mountain Bike

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi everyone,

Could you please help me as to what "Scott Sports" Mountain Bike to get. Following are the criteria I am trying to meet:

PRICE (AUD) (RRP): $2500-$4500
SUSPENSION: Back and front, fully adjustable with the handle-bar adjusters

I will be riding on a mixed terrain, however I think about 60% of the time I will be riding on trails, and the rest on more rough stuff (rocks, jumps, logs, etc.).

If you can give me any advice it would be very much appreciated!!!

Thanks for your time!!!

Carbon Wheels

So let's put money to one side and just talk about the product itself. And we might as well focus on the golden standard: ENVE rims.

Are these a good choice of wheels for Sydney? We've read about how strong they are in comparison to alloy, and that they are tried and proven on the WC DH circuit and Enduro WS etc etc but if money was no object would you ride the AM or 60/40 versions of these around our AM trails, the likes of M Dam, Red Hill, Cascades DH, and perhaps one or two others that we can't mention?

Tathra re-run debrief

Take two of this years Tathra enduro was run over the weekend.

Second time I do this event. It is a loong drive but last year was such a buzz I came back for more. If last year was good this year blew me away, some sections I could not remember had been added causing many spontaneous Yeehaas! Especially a snaking half pipe type of section that sent us on a laugh out load roller coaster ride. Unreal!

All of you - do yourself a favour and enter this event next year.

Cheers!

Connecting Manly Dam with Cascades

I'm looking to plan my next training ride and was wondering how people prefer to connect Manly Dam with Cascades. I've been riding via the road mostly, but would prefer to minimise the tarmac content.

I seem to remember a few people go via the pipeline easement down to Warringah Road, up and over the ped bridge, back to the pipleline easement, but not sure where to from there. From memory the pipeline easement is a dead end, trail-wise.

My google-fu has failed me on this occasion - if someone could post links to strava routes or give directions that would be brilliant.

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hey guys I'll be in Coffs and Lismore areas from today (surprise work trip) for the next two or three weeks, I've just bought a reign and want to do a bit of shredding on it. Still a bit of a newbie so nothing too gnarled but I feel like I can hit a fair bit of this new weapon Smiling

Crown Lands - Cromer North Trail

Don't know if I'm way behind the times here...

Dept of Trade & Investment are undertaking major works of the fire trails from the Cromer Connector through Garden of Gullies & what looks like main trail heading from Red Hill east past the Maybrook turn off.

Works to start in 4-6 weeks and will take up 1 month, the main trails will be off limits.

By the sounds of it they are trying to open the land to passive recreation with more policing of the trails to discourage moto's

Interesting article.

http://www.pinkbike.com/news/opinion-it-should-b...

The recent push for more and more entry level trails might be great for introducing new riders to the sport, but let's not forget that mountain biking isn't supposed to be easy, safe, or quick to master

Australian MTB Market Profile Survey‏

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Dirt Art are conducting a survey to profile the Australian mountain bike market. They are making the results public and free to use, which will be valuable to event and trails advocacy organisations such as PMBC and WAMBA.

From Dirt Art:

The Australian MTB industry is lacking an understanding of the mountain bike community, it's users, their interests, wants and their needs. Dirt Art have decided to take matters into our own hands and develop a national market profile survey.

Rock Shox weights?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Ok, I'm selling my Scalpel 29er ( classified to come soon )
And am building up a new bike with a "normal" fork.
I've set my mind on a 2014 Sid XX 29er but have realised there's the World Cup version at around $200 extra.
I know its got a carbon steerer, it's got the same internals I think?
Does anyone know exact weights of both these forks?
If the weight advantage is negligible then I won't ( 'scuse the pun ) Fork out the extra cash for the World Cup version and stick with the Xx.

Fox rp3 leaking

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I have a fox rp3 rear shock that lost air today once home out with the shock pump low and behold she won't hold air pressure
Changed the shrader valve still no joy but once you get some air in you can hear a leak
So out with the soapy water and the air is leaking around we're the nipple that contains the valve enters the top section of the shock body were you would screw your shock pump on to adjust pressure

So the question is is this nipple a push in with an oring seal or sealant or dose it screw into the body with a oring or sealant

Looking for trail courses for hire/permission on Northern Beaches

Hi riders

I'm hosting a National Unicycle competition on the Northern Beaches in October and one of the disciplines is Mountain Unicycling (Muni). You may have seen some of us round the Dam/Red Hill Smiling

I've heard the Dam is next to impossible to 'hire' or have approval for an organised race. So was wondering if you knew of any other trails in the areas that can be used for an organised race/meet.

Many thanks
