Hill training

I know there's some people on here that like to do hill repeats so I'm after best practice.

If I'm mountain biking and going up a hill then I'm going to spinning my legs like hell in a nice easy gear.

Now on the road bike lets say up Bobbin head (south side) I can either burn my legs in the big ring or aim for a higher cadence in a lower gear, which is better? What are the benefits of one over the other?
Thoughts please?

Running

Hi there

Is there any knowledge that anyone can share as to how running and cycling relate?

Never really heard of any good cyclists having also been good runners but I might be wrong?
Does running help with cycling cardio?

Garmin Edge 500 Workouts.

Looking at doing some silly time on the trainer.

What programs are people doing on their indoor trainers.
I am looking to do a basic program in Garmin Training Center to use for indoor workouts.
Any suggestions for intervals times etc ?

Boring as it may be 25mins on the trainer is 25mins of training.

Cheers

Dirtworks Canoe Bridge

Dirtworks on this weekend and am thinking about how to approach the infamous canoe bridge.

Anyone got any tips on how to ride across? I've checked out Pikey's video and he makes it look easy.......

Mtb XC Racing Skills Clinics

Does anyone have any suggestions for mtb skills clinics. I have done an intermediate course with AMBC and that was great, but the more advanced XC clinics are not scheduled regularly.

I found that once you have done a clinic you get more improvement out of your general practice, as you try to ride using the techniques. Better to practice good technique rather than dodgy technique.

Since its been over a year since the last course I was on I am keen to revisit and extend what I've learnt.

Any ideas?

Training Plans/Coaching

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

After taking a year off with lots of travelling, not much training and only a small amount of riding, I'm back into training again this year. Since New Years I've dropped 6kg and fitness has picked up a great deal. On Saturday for my last training ride before the Rocky Trail 100 mile went and did an Oaks, Ingar, Andersons & Oaks ride, finished with a ride time of 05:54:34 (profile at the bottom of post).

Tips for climbing

I'm looking for some tips on climbing hills. Im riding Cascades 4 gates at the moment to build fitness. I find on the Quarry track hill that I'm changing down the the lowest gear at about 1/2 way. I tend to stay in the saddle the entire way up the climb; trying to spin harder at the erosion bumps. I just dont have the leg strength to keep it up though. I have tried standing up but tend to get the back wheel spinning under load.

I'm riding a 2010 Giant Trance X2 and the lockout does help.

Any tips?

Great training website

Not sure if any one has already seen this but I'm currently looking into getting a TRX suspension system for general training and came across this website.

http://www.bikejames.com/

Looks like a great resource for all things MTB training related and the content seems quite informative. The home page is a blog but on the right there is a load of resources including nutrition, core training, routines, etc.
