Freeing Pistons

My rear Pistons seems to get stuck Closed (against the rotor). they go back in once pushed but get stuck closed again when braking. Was thinking about taking the pads out and cleaning behind and trying to spray a bit of lube behind the pads,

Without getting any near the pads as lube doesnt really aid stopping.

Would that be the right way to go about it or are seals or something going to need to be replaced?

GS or SGS?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey Guys,

A few months ago I replaced my rear XT derailleur with a new M770 XT SGS (long cage). When comparing the two it looks like the cage on my new one is longer than my old one.

Looking at the Shimano site I can see that SGS is actually super long cage.

Since getting the new derailleur I have broken two hangers – one because a stick wound its way up through the lower jockey wheel. This lends me to think I need the shorter GS (medium cage) derailleur.

I run a 11-32 cassette and 3 rings up front.

What do you think?

Does anyone have a DT Swiss 240s rear hub?

If so, what lubricant do you use for the ratchets? DT Swiss say that normal grease is too thick and that you should use their ‘special grease’ which I understand costs more than $60 for a 20g tub (and is not readily available). Are you aware of any alternatives? Some posts on the web suggest that this grease is actually Dow Corning Molykote TP 42 which I have found can be purchased in Australia, however only in 1kg tins. Seems a waste to buy so much as it would last one bike about 1,000 years. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Front disc brake issue

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I am in a bit of a panic, perhaps unnecessarily at this stage but looking for suggestions! I have planned to go away with a bunch of people with the families, mainly so that the guys can go off and ride. I do not get away that often and never with the primary purpose of riding. Yesterday my front disc brakes on my 3 month old Giant packed it in. I took it back to the LBS and they were able fit it in to look at this morning but called me to say that it had to go in for a warranty repair that will take between 1 and 2 weeks.

Problem with Brakes

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi all,

I have an issue with my front hydro brakes the issue is that I have removed the pads to check and change when i removed them i noticed the piston not returning all the way back in I have tried pushing them back in with no luck also have pumped the brake hoping this would work but no luck again the more i pumped the further it came out and then eventually opened slightly and some oil came out. I have pushed it a fair way back in but there is still a couple of mill left and it would cause some serious drag on the wheel. Is there anything else i can try ?

General Service

Hi i think my bike is ready for a service.

Can anyone suggest where to take my bike for a service and will a brake bleed be included or extra. After all the sh*t with my brakes i think they need another bleed Sad

Thanks

Noisey Brakes

Just got some new soft compound rim pads and when I apply them they squeel louder than a pig. Does anyone know the cause and is there a fix?

I can't remember the brand name.

edit: I should add that they are orange in colour if that helps.
