Bike and accessory talk. How do I fix my brakes? What's a good fork for me? Check out this hot bling! etc.

80 mm or 100mm Fox Forks

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hey!
I have been using Fox 80mm forks for the last couple of years
and I am thinking of getting 100mm forks.
Is it better to buy the Fox 80mm forks with the option
of converting it to 100mm or is it better to get straight 100mm forks?

Thanks
Leeza

Cracked Mission

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi All

Does anyone else on NobMob ride a Diamondback Mission???

I have a 2007 Mission which is such a well balanced and stable ride. Sadly it developed a crack in the downtube where the knucklebox pivot is attached to the frame. What is most disapointing is it happened riding a service trail (Charlottes Pass to Rawsons Pass) with my 7 year old. I did not even get to ride it at Thredbo and had to rent a Kona.

Upgraded bike finally

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey I am not new here, but new to posting...

Today I finally upgraded my actual bike instead of just repairing the old one. I have gone from a GT Palomar (199x) to a 2010 Scott Aspect 10..
These bikes feel worlds apart, the better shocks, gears and disc brakes!!

I normally ride the Terry hills/duck holes and Centre trail most afternoons and today's ride was so much easier and quicker than on the GT its not funny.

DUALIE Smiling

Hoping someone on here might be able to assist.
currently i ride an 09 Alias (size XXL)
however recently i have been visiting trails where this bike just can't cope.
I would like to invest in my "rear end" and purchase a Dualie.
however i have hit 1 "small" snag and want to hear from people as to their recommendations/experiences.

* The problem *
I am not a short/small guy or even average for that matter.
I stand at a ridiculous 6'7" (198cm) and weigh in at a hefty 122Kgs
there are no dualie bikes that suit....

ideas people!!! ideas!!!! COMON!

Clips Clipped Confidence

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've done it, i listened and took the advice of fellow 'Mob'ers and bought some clipless pedals and shoes.
Also took the advise and went to Terry Hills for my first ride with my new pedals in toe.
Sure feels funny being so connected, but somehow feels good too.
Then decided to practice going quickly around some corners for practice, .....aaaaah the fun began...!!!
What an emotional rollercoaster, first i feel good, then i feel ridiculously inept, confidence soars, then plumetts when technical stuff arises.

Gear issues

I have an issue with my gears. They regularly slip into higher gears, especially if they are under load. When I ride on a nice, flat area and change gears, I can change up and down nicely as expected but when under a bit of load, nasty slippage which also sounds terrible.

Obviously something needs adjusting and I would appreciate some tips about what I need to look at. Do I need to adjust the cable tension or something else? It is a reasonably new bike so I am thinking that it is unlikely to need anything replaced although I am open to being told otherwise!

Scott Genius Issues

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've got a three week old Scott Genius - awsome bike but-
Went out Red Hill yesterday and riding along heard a not so good noise (like snap) stopped to investigate - thinking the worst after reading about some of the issues with Spark frames snapping.
What had happened is the rear shock bolt had come away - at first it looked like it had sheared but on closer inspection this was not the case. This could be really dangerous thinking you have six inches of plush suspension to find as you land you have none!

29er ss

Hi can anyone out there help. I think (know) I need a 29er ss can anyone help with the n+1 without the W-1. Also some info on what ppl's opinion of whether this is a bike that I could ride. Or do I just want something pretty to look at? (This is a question I can answer for myself), and because carbon is out of the question what is the difference between steel and alloy?
