Softtail HELP!! Specialized Vs Scott Vs Giant?!?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey guys,

I'm looking at a cross country, dual suspension for under $2500. Almost half my riding will be ON-ROAD.

I will be using it for moderate/difficult fire trails and UP/DOWN bush tracks (no huge drops, no extreme downhill). My main concerns are LIGHTWEIGHT (14kg max) and at least front SUSPENSION LOCK.

Currently considering (all around $2000):
1/ Scott Aspect FX 15 (front & back lock suspension, 13.9kg)
2/ Specialised FSR-XC Comp (highly reccomended by a friend).
3/ Giant Anthem 2 <--- The talk of the town (fantastic front fork, excellent value, propedal)

Winter Riding - sooo cold!

Now it is getting a little cold early morning I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about what 'leg warmers' you can wear to keep your legs warm when riding?

Light, Durable, Cheap

This is a great quote,

When it comes to bike components, you can only pick two out of three adjectives to describe them: light, durable, or cheap. Having all three in one is impossible.

From V-brakes and snow don’t mix.

Cold Lube

Is it getting cold or what!? I was going to put some Rock and Roll Gold lube on my chain last night. And the instant the lube hit the chain it thickened and stayed as nice blob on top of the chain without running down into the link. Obviously this isn't going to help in prolonging the life of my drivetrain.

Bike racks (was I'll be coming thru Pymble)

I normally put my bike on the back seat (on a thick old sheet) with the front wheel off.

I can bring my rack thing but am not 100% it will fit on it. Some duelies do, some don't. It's a hatch back rack, not a tow-bar one. We can try. If it does not work I can tow you there! Have you done 70 km/hour on it yet?

Distance c/l to c/l of the 2 poles is: 400 mm

I have been mountain biking for a year on my sub 1K hardtail. I have done over the 1000k's I promised I would do and now its time for an upgrade. I am unsure how useful this information will be due to my lack of experience..but you never know Laughing out loud (Hope that is enough disclaimers)

Truvative Cranks

Does anyone have a 16mm (5/8th) hex (allen) key I can borrow to remove the retaining nut off my stylo cranks?

Camera for MTB riders?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

If you're looking for a go anywhere camera for when you're out on the trails, this sounds quiet promising:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0804/08042201ricohg...

A compact, lightweight, water and dust-resistant, wide-angle, 5x zoom digital camera featuring enhanced shock resistance for outdoor use.

Doesn't look like it has a built in lens cover, which is odd, and as Gizmodo put it:

Does a waterproof and dust-proof camera really have to be as fugly as this?
