This bike has been a while in the (dream) making...

I realised that the 29er fad wasn't probably a fad... so I started looking for a carbon hardtail. And then I saw Brian's bike posted on this site and was immediately taken by what a superb looking machine that it was.

.... so when a frame came on Ebay at a bargain price.. I hit the buy button.

And then the frame sat there ... for a number of months. Slowly but surely the remainder came together... now 5 months later - here it is!

Thanks to Brian for the advice and Gazza for the bargain saddle.

Death of the Elixir 7's

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi,

I had something of a branch/disc brake event whilst out on the bike the other day. The branch managed to wedge itself into the rotor, met the chainstay, bent the disc and then the bent disc has taken a chunk out of the caliper too. End result - one dead Elixir 7 caliper and rotor.

SO.....options are, replace with the same OR do I upgrade to something better? Have to admit that the longer I've had the Elixir's (they're a year old now), the more troublesome and noisy they're becomming.

Hi All

Sorry about joining just to ask questions, but thats how you learn right!

I was put onto you guys as having a few Tandem bikes around the club...

The missus and I went for a ride on a tandem bike over the weekend and loved it Smiling (she is visually impared and has never rode a bike before)
We put about 100kms on the bike and did a bit of gravel and single track on the way, and really enjoyed that part!

We were on a Canondale with rigid forks and 26x2" road tyres and apart from still getting used to it, it seemed to go alright Smiling

Hey guys just wondering if anyone knows anything about adjusting the rear shock on a prophet? I'm a big guy and almost bottom it out just sitting on it. Cheers

TIA.

Is anyone riding more hardcore /freeride type stuff on the new generation of long travel 29er yet?

Hi All
I am sold on 29ers being a fast way to cover ground & am convinced of their speed advantage especially on reasonably sucky ground (eg, a field, sand etc), however as an allround fun trail bike how do they compare?

I see the yanks are crossing up and getting some serious air on the new generation of 120 - 140mm 29er bikes from the likes of Santa Cruz & Pivot etc but is this just for the marketing men to show that they can do it or are trail riders buying these $5000- $10,000 bikes and giving them a serious thrashing?

2011 Anthem x2 headset/steerer size?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hey

Just wondering if anyone can confirm for me the steerer diameter on the 2011 Anthems, as I want to buy a shorter stem. The pages for 2012 models clearly state that they have overdrive two headset which have 1 1/4" but 2011 model merely state that they have tapered headsets which would lead me to think that they are the more common 1 1/8". Can anyone confirm this for me?

thanks in advance Chris
