Manly Dam will reopen May 3

Good news from the rangers for those not heading out of town this weekend.

Although I've just been to Cascades and it's filthy wet there, probably the wettest I've ever seen with standing water on much of the trail, even places it doesn't normally gather. I doubt the Dam has faired much better to be honest so if you can possibly avoid riding there this weekend and give the trail more chance to dry out I'm sure it will be much appreciated.

The bike track will re-open this Saturday 3rd May.

Thanks to everyone who kept off the track during and after the wet period.

We have had quite a few enquiries regarding track maintenance days. We are not planning any future track vol days until a staff vacancy is filled at the Dam. We will inform you via e-mail if we can find suitable staff to supervise in the interim.

Thanking you and safe riding.

Cascades - NPWS Stupid, Dangerous and Ugly

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Rode the Cascades yesterday and was quite shocked at the stupidity of NPWS attempts to keep bikes out.

Next to the gate at the top of the Heath Track are some nice thin steel fence posts just waiting to impale someone. Two posts have white caps on them to be more visible, but there are two more with no caps. To make it worse, some logs have been placed along the side as well. Not only for bikes, but runners/walkers in poor vis could easily trip over these logs and impale themselves on the unmarked fence posts.

Manly Dam Closed due to wet weather

Manly Dam is currently closed due to the current spate of wet weather and will be closed until the terrain dries out. We appreciate your assistance and hope that you can inform other riders of the closure.

another track is about to be closed

Went for a quick ride at the 2 creeks track (Lyndfield) this morning and bumped into a ranger on the way back. He was on his way there to fine dog walkers but I had a chat with him anyway. He told me that they are going to stop riders from riding the single tracks and some signs will be up soon.....

Disapointing....... its a nice track and its closed to home

Old timers - anecdotes required

Hey, so I was thinking there might be some old gits more mature riders in our midst, can someone answer this one...

What's the earliest anecdotal evidence anyone has for MTB riding around various places in Sydney? You know, Manly Dam, Red Hill, Oxford Falls, Terrey Hills, etc, etc.

I've only been doing it since coming back from UK 2004-ish, but seems to have been going on for many years before then. Old photos would be useful.

Cheers!

New line @ 19th Hole

The new line is actually the corner after the 19th hole. Although it was funny being there on foot and seeing the track from other direction. I had never seen that drop off the 19th hole on the far left. Looks quite doo-able.

Trees down on perimiter track

there is a tree down on the perimiter drack just after the hill on the second junction, its not movable, but it is possible to get of and walk around/over it one at a time. Don't come down the hill to fast as its pretty sudden.

Which tracks to start with ?

G'day,

I'd like to ride on a couple of Northern Beaches/Sydney tracks over the easter long weekend with my new Giant X1 but when I go to the rides section there are so many I don't know where to start...

I've already done the Manly Dam last Saturday which was a bit too technical and dangerous for a first time (fell off a few times because of uncleated shoes lol). I'd like to ride on some easy fire trails/single tracks not too technical so I can get used to the bike and the new stem I've just replaced and also learn to uncleat the shoes more quickly.

Cheers,
