Manly Dam closed

As if you couldn't guess Sad

Greetings Mountain Bike Community

Due the recent deluge of rain and highly erosive conditions, the Manly Dam mountain bike track will be closed as of Tuesday 21 August until and inclusive of Friday 31 August 2007. If it continues to rain the closure time will be extended and we will inform you of this decision. Thank you all for your help and cooperation.

The Academy of Sport

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The Academy of Sport entrance doesn't cause you to cross private land, since, as I understand it, the academy of sport is on public land.

It does, however, as the 10 million signs will inform you, require you to be a criminal trespasser.Technically, a security guard could, should you fail to give him your name, detain you there.

That said, noone seems to mind.

If you are intent on being a rebellious outlaw, at least be discreet.
IE.
- park in the main carpark, not at the trail head
- drive very slowly
- give way to pedestrians
- don't play music really loud

I agree.

I agree.

If they smoothed the track and removed all the rocks and obstacles, beginners wouldn't need to dismount or ride around the obstacles. This should mean there wouldn't be multiple lines and no widening of the trail footprint.

A smooth track (possible made of cement or compacted dolorite) would stand up to erosion better and replacing those big humps with drains (those big humps scare me) should see more beginners using the track.

Manly Dam Dumbing Down

Manly Dam Track being dumbed down!

Who is grading the Manly Dam Perimeter walking/ riding track? ( At the Seaforth end)

The value of the Manly Dam track is its suitability for all standards of riding. Some manoeuvres need practicing and mastering creating a sense of achievement. If you choose not to attempt these, that is fine also. The track is continually being graded to the lowest common denominator, diminishing the sporting challenge and inherent value of the track.
The latest is the rock fill at the beginning of the decent after the sandy single track at the Seaforth end.

Lindfield all the way round to Manly Dam?

Does anyone know anything about the below track?
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode...

Seems to be a trail that starts in Lindfield near the corner of Eastern Arterial Rd and Tyron Rd. It then seems to head out either north to Cascades or south east under the Roseville Bridge. And possibly all the way round into Bantry Bay and eventually Manly Dam on the Wakehurst Parkway.

Manly Dam Re-Opened

Some great news for the weekend...

Thanks again to everyone who kept off the track during and after this wet period.

The track is still wet in places, and the trail surface has changed in some spots because of the heavy rain. Please ride according to these conditions and walk your bike through muddy patches on the trail.

Manly Dam has volunteer trail maintenance days every 6-8 weeks. The next trail day is on Sunday 29 July. Please register with Terracare if you wish to be involved. www.terracare.com.au Finally please inform others of the manly dam mailing list [email protected]

Thanks,

Nicole

Red Hill idiots

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Well it looks like we may have some future problems at Red Hill due to farkin idiots burning cars dumping rubbish and general un- wanted behaviour. The top car park trailhead has been closed and there are some notices around on the trails regarding endangered species , which could end up being "us".
There has been heaps of kids fanging around on those crappy ebay moto thumpers and also a lot of guys on unregisterd trail bikes using the grass area and tracks as speedway tracks, and a lot of the trails are being chewed up .

narrabeen lake?

...i suspect that track is in part under water - my butcher said Manly Dam had overflowed when he was walking his dog there...
maybe we will all have to try the theory Gaz is doing - riding in the sitting room on one of those stationary bike stand things...
