Booralie Demise

Sad times Sad

As part of the ride today we eventually found our way to Waratah Park (aka. the Koala park - end of Namba Road, Duffys Forest). The Booralie trail was probably dissected many years ago to make way for the park, and as we note there's a dirty great electric fence around it blocking this trail. You used to be able to follow the fence line and pick up other side though.

Manly Dam Open

Hip, hip... Smiling

Have just heard Manly Dam is officially open again.

If anyone rides it in the next few days can someone post a comment on how it's dryed out and coped with the rain?

Update 15 Feb: The word from the... erm... trail is that there's still a lot of standing water and quiet a bit of erosion gone on. If you possibly can stay away and let things dry out this would probably help a lot!

Please spread the word to others .

Will post an update when it's officially back open.

riding Oxford Falls DH in Wet Conditions

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

With all this rain, I was out there yesterday and today with some mates doing general maintenance and fixing up some of the drops & landings, we were very surprised and disappointed to see riders (kids) hitting the DH trail given the current conditions.

Now the wood structures are no longer there means everything is made out of rock and dirt and when it rains heavily this stuff turns into soft mud. So when you ride on these features it makes a mess and damages the landings.

so could those that chose to ride the DH trail in the wet either

Manly Dam okay to ride Feb 2?

Just wondering on peoples opinions on if Manly Dam will be okay to ride tomorrow morning given all the rain we've had the last day and night. Just unsure if i should cancel a planned ride with a few mates tomorrow or not ...thoughts?

Trees @ Terrey Hills

Craig there were 2 trees down on Perimeter track Sunday arvo.

One which almost covered the entire track, just enough for a bike to pass slowly, and the other smaller one that shouldn't cause too many problems.

Sorry I won't be able to join you, have a pest guy coming to top up my termite system.

Recent MD trail maintenance issue?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

My 11yo son and I did a short section of the MD trail this morning, from down behind the Lutheran Homes on down through the boardwalk, kids playground and Southern Sojourn - about a third of the circuit.

The descent from Lutheran homes was scary, with lots of loose rocks and sand on the trail that wasn't there when we last rode it a few weeks ago, and other parts of the trail seem to have had a lot of deeper sand and loose rocks etc graded into them, that wasn't there last week.

Oxford Falls XC loop in Garigal National Park

Anyone ridden there lately?

See : http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=111903

Apparently NPWS is going to crack down on riders on the cross country loop. Mountain bike riding isn't allowed on singletrack according to the Garigal plan of management.

Best track to improve my fitness

Is the answer to this any track will do? I'm doing a circuit of Manly Dam twice a week and in the new year I intend to add a third or maybe somewhere else at the weekend, I too will beat that hill.

I was thinking of doing some K's on the road to improve my fitness but I'm not sure how much this would help for off road? Add to that the fact that I would need to buy some slicker wheels or maybe a whole new bike and the idea has less appeal and I'm certianly not buying into all thay lycra.

Any advice on good tracks for this?

Cheers
