Drivetrain Compatability

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Few questions about drivetrain Compatability with shimano and SRAM both having new stuff on the market in both 2 x 10 and 3 x 10. every review I read focuses on one brand or anther but not anything about the mix of the two.

Anyway currently I run, SRAM XO rear derailuer, SRAM 990 rear cassette, SRAM X0 shifters front and rear, Avid Juicey brakes, XTR front derailuer, XT 3 x 9 Crankset, XTR chain. The mix of XT / XTR on the front deraileur and crankset with SRAM rear works great and I have never experienced any problems.

Mount York update for 26 Apr

Area:
Mount York
Status:
Green/Open

On a discovery mission, riding solo and browsing NoBMob for ideas I thought Berghoffers Pass sounded like fun. In reality it is a very short trail which from the top of Berghoffer's Street descends 225m via fire trail to the point where the fire trail joins Victoria Pass, perhaps 50 vertical metres above the base of the pass. It took me 10 minutes to roll down on the brakes, and 20 to cycle up. It's not technical, not steep. In fact its brevity was a disappointment. You can view the Hartley Vale district below from the trail as it descends the escarpment, and there are convict engineering (drainage culverts, stone walls, water basin, etc) along the way, all sign posted. But seriously do the other rides from this point (Lawson's Long Alley, etc) before contemplating Berghoffer's Pass. It was not at all worth recommending unfortunately. It was however raining and I can see how shuttles up and down here on a wet day could keep you fit as it didn't suffer from the rain at all.

Merida Whaka 100

Below is a preview, click to read the full post
When:
Saturday, 22 October, 2011 (All day)

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Meeting Point:

The Merida Whaka 100 is an event designed to specifically challenge those riders who want to completely test their body and mind. The challenge was laid down in Zippy's Cafe at the start of 2007 - 'Dean, you should really run a 100km race' - and the response was given with interest with the design of a course that is arguable New Zealand's toughest mountain bike marathon.

EVENTS RUN ON THE DAY

For the Merida Whaka 100 event we offer four different events:

Short Course Individuals: 25km
Medium Course Individuals: 50km
Whaka 100 Individuals: 100km
Whaka 100 Teams: 100km only

Check this out - 100 ker held in the The Redwoods - Whakarewarewa Forest, Rotorua New Zealand.

http://www.n-duro.co.nz/whaka/

Basically 100km of riding single track - what a better way to see all that the Redwoods have to offer. There are 25km and 50km options also.

Could be a good replacement for the Angry Doctor in the event schedule, as race is on Saturday 22 October 2011.

A bit far to travel, but from what I can see of the course map, you basically ride a large % of what the forest has to offer in this single day.

Ride Guide needed for Upper north shore (wednesday or thursday)

G'day guys im keen to go test out my new ride and the capabilities of my knee ( 2 months out of a reconstruction). Iv heard all the tracks have changed since last time i was riding so id love it if someone could show me around a few. Because of my knee ill be taking it all reasonably slow and cautious so if theres a beginner out there that knows a few of the tracks that would be great as well.

Im thinking either Wahroonga or Cascades area. Anyone keen? contact me on 0413 403 498.

Cheers
Alex

last of 4 laps...

Fist time at Mt Annan and very impressed with the layout. Highly recommended if you want to get k's under the belt. (Also only took 40minutes by car from Newtown, and an hour to get home, although don't bother turning up before 10 unless you're a 'friend of the park')
