Berowra Valley - Quarry road firetrail update for 04 Jan

Status:
Green/Open

the main fireroad trail is great - loose as always (i assume) but in good enough shape

HOWEVER - if you follow the route description and take the trail that goes left at the obelisk (or what poms would refer to as a trig point), the trail goes down fireroad for a short while (great fun) and then becomes a little harder to follow, the trail goes down the right hand end of the seemingly at first impenetrable rock drop, and yes there are a few (3 i think) very steep rocky sections that are as good as unrideable - before going down a completely unrideable drop (with a 6ft ish sheer face at the bottom) to the fish ponds. I would suggest you don't take the bike down this, as the trail out the other side is steep, virtually un rideable and bike's aren't allowed on it. Leave the bike above this last drop, go take a look at fish ponds and re trace your steps

enjoy

Oxford Falls (Morgan Road) update for 04 Jan

Status:
Amber/Some Issues

i've ridden out at oxford falls three times in the last fortnight and have done a few trails out there, all of which are badly overgrown, need pruning back and some just need not riding or a total overhaul.

powerlines / nursery rhymes are both rideable although were really wet toward the bottoms and will be even worse after the last two days. since the fire's gone through someone has re chalked them but not cleared back the fallen branches and overhanging dead stuff - so both trails could really do with a dedicated rider or two walking them and clearing them (if only i had a car, i'd put my hand up to offer - 4 wheels are broken again)

moon rock (if that's what everyone refers to it as?) is also suffering from stuff hanging all over the trail since the burn - could also do with a clearing and the lower berms section needs some debris removing - but it is also all rideable.

now - i don't know what this trail is, or how best to describe it so please bear with me - if you go down (the wrong way) powerlines / nursery rhymes you'll get to a fork (where the two trails join?), take the left (power lines?) and follow to the fireroad at the end. now if you hang a right there are chalk arrows and pink tape sending you off down a very steep trail with some big drops that then just disappears off a cliff - as i found out on christmas day and nearly died doing so. the hike a bike back up this is a bloody nightmare and whoever has chalked and flagged this as a trail needs a word having with them. if you find yourself under a powerline, looking down a rock step down heading toward a cliff, stay away - it's no fun and whoever is building / destroying / misleading riders down there needs some time to sort things out!

Lastly the area off the the right of the main road (main DH track being off to the left, smaller area with big ladder drops etc off to the right) is unrideable - clearly someone is doing some building up there, but all the old drops are in a dodgy shape and the landings are sketchy - the trail is over grown (and inhabited by some HUGE spiders and webs) and in bad shape, but rideable up until the first set of drops, from which point you've got a horrible down climb, or better a turn around and ride back up the trail back to the car.

think that's all - those who know the trails better please amend anything i've got wrong - i'm just going off the route descriptions here, i've had no local show me around so am half guessing at trail names etc

Early morning workout and breakfast

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I know you are supposed to have breakfast when you wake up - to kick start your metabolism into action again and to provide energy.
However what if you are going to do an early morning workout such as a 1 hour ride to work?
Do you eat breakfast before or after?

If you eat before should you wait x minutes before starting exercising or get stuck straight into it?
If you don't eat before will you be lacking in energy as in theory you should be hungry in the morning?
