Couldn't defend the title
I was fortunate enough to win this category at last year's event. It came on the back of some decent raining for the BC Bike race. I was pretty fit back then.
But this year was a different story...
It started with the fact that this race was moved forward a month because of clashes with other events. When I found out I was in Canada on a month long skiing holiday. I knew that wasn't going to leave me with much time for any training when I got back to Sydney.

The Importance of Willopower
Won't say too much here as it was relatively uneventful other than it was a great course, great event with a great atmosphere to which I am sure would make James proud.

New wheel size standard announced
Looks like someone is looking to take the rough-ground rolling advantages of bigger wheels to the next level. A '39er' wheel standard has just been proposed.
This image illustrates the difference to a 'standard' 29er:
Steering uses a gears and apparently steering response speed can be tuned by adjusting the gear ratios:

Sunday is fun - day II

Morgan Road, Belrose. At the second 90 degree right hand bend in the road. There's an area just before you can park and a firetrail heading off to the left.

Cascades update for 17 Feb
Rode this afternoon. Tracks are mostly bone dry with a little water in the gutters. The track is pretty loose & rocky s you've really got to take care on the descents. Wouldn't want to come off from hitting a rock! Forgot how much "pinch" was in those climbs!

Bago Bluff Marathon
Hi all,
I've heard that there's this 50/100km marathon up near Port Mac on March 6th, and was thinking it looks like a good alternative to the executed Capital Punishment that was a similar distance/time of year.

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about the tracks/race and anyone had been considering having a go at competing in it as I'm keen to know who'd be around if I made the trip up.

Rain Jacket
I need to buy a new rain jacket. Have had a Ground Effect Stormtrooper for a good 13 years but it's now disheveled and in need of a grave. The new ones look expensive. I don't mind cost if I get good durability. Use primarily for wet commutes but also for mountain biking as well just needs to keep me dry as long as possible. Any thoughts.

Bantry Bay update for 16 Feb
This Sunday morning between 6 & 10 am the whole of the Possum will be closed so that 500 odd runners can rundown in it the wrong direction.
Yes you did read that right. A profit based events company has decided that it suits their needs to use a mountain bike trail, built exclusively by mountain bikers, so they have decided to take it over on a prime riding time, ie Sunday morning in summer; the people who built and use it be dammed (yes they have been approached about this previously but simply don't care).
They will even have a Marshall at the entrance of the track who will advise you not to ride it.
Based on past events they will also leave their signage around the Dam in general and Allambie for 2 weeks after the run has finished. So when you see the sign saying "slow, runners crossing" don't worry as most of them crossed two weeks ago...
