Rob's Mk3 Light (front)

Triple Khatod lens is centre and 10x10mm square Carlco (16 degree) sides.

Note the Khatod lens is 6mm higher than the others so the centre LEDs are set back by that much. Quiet a tricky build.

They are fixed to the 20x20x3mm aluminium holder with Arctic Alumina thermal epoxy.

Rob's Mk3 Light

Mk3 light: 6 x Cree XPE driven at 700mA from a TaskLED MaxFlex. Khatod triple lens + 3 x Carlco 16 degree at the sides.

Fitted to 20x20x3mm aluminium then secured inside 75x25x3mm box section (75mm long so it's square). Covered in LED heat sinks from Jaycar.

Front cover from huge lump of plexiglass I found on the street. Oh, did I mention the box section was also a freebie offcut I found dumped last year and it's driven from an old 4000mAh, 10.8v laptop battery (also free)? Cable is recycled from Mk1.

Front Cover

Pretty, but not waterproof, even though it's a nice tight fit. The cover will be surrounded with sealant to keep water out and it in place.

Sealant Strain Relief

The cable fit through the rear cover is really rather tight, but it's covered in sealant just to be sure and keep the water out.

This works well - it was a bugger getting the wire out of my Mk1 lights where it was fixed in a similar way until last night.

Statistically it was overdue - 8 months without a crash Smiling and now had 2 crashes in 2 days - Sad

The first one is worth mentioning as it might save you from a similar fate...

I was riding the upper part of Duckholes (been there a dozen times before)- the nice rocky / bushy sniggle singletrack, following 2 mates at quite a good click - when suddenly I received a massive blow to the head and was knocked clean of my bike ...finding myselves laying in the bushes, seeing stars and nursing a massive seething pain in my neck from the jolt!

What else is there to do on a wet Wednesday afternoon but a bit of light building.

Ride Database Entry:
Manly Dam
Meeting Point:

King Street (near corner with Arana Street), Manly Vale. You know - outside Manly Hydraulics Lab.

I thought it would be fun to ride 1 or 2 laps around the Dam on Easter Sunday and have some Hot Cross buns afterwards.

This is a social ride, so no hot laps. Everyone is welcome!

Hope to see you there
