That was ouchy!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Gee whiskers! That was hard. I've done heaps of endurance events (mostly running) and that was one of the worst I've felt after a race! but I digress...

Woke up nice and early (3:30) to drive down to the race. Unlike a weekday though when I have to go to work I pretty much lept out of bed, excited for the day ahead.
Driving down and arriving in Bundanoon I could see conditions were perfect but I knew it was going to be reasonably warm later on too. Registered and drove to the start - can anyone explain why they don't just do rego at the start??

IT DON'T MEAN A THING...
... if I ain't got that Fling (finished)

It's Sunday night. My wheel will need replacing. I have a massive bruise on my knee, and I'm physically and mentally exhausted, and finished far further down than I'd hoped. But hopefully I can make up for that with a really good write up of what led to all this.

Brand new Garmin 510 issues

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi,
I bought a new Garmin 510 yesterday for the Fling. Charged it fully and used it for the race today for the first time.
After about 4hrs it went blank and I thought it might have run out of battery being the first charge and all that.
When I got it home I realised it's beeping every 5seconds and I've put it back on charge, pressed all buttons in different sequences and nothings happening. It's still blank and it's still beeping.
Anyone heard of this before and know what to do before I take it back to the shop tomorrow?

BMX track at Seaforth in the early 1980's

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

When i was a lad. I arrived in Manly Manly as a 12 year old. Aussies had surf boards, skateboards, & BMX bikes. My old Country had none of it. except I'd heard of skateboards. Ceratilnly never heard of BMX until I came to AUS.
I arrived here in 1978 I recon by late 1979 or early 1980 I as right into BMXing. I was a BMX head. Big time.

There used to be a BMX track in Seaforth. Near wehere now there is the pump track behind the comunity center right next to the tennis courts.
In fact...I can see the pump track from my balcony right now.Its called The Grove.

Rider down Old Man's Valley

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

There was an older rider who went down heavily today on the last set of rollers at the end of the original blue loop at OMV - Turkey Royale?

It seems like he came through with a fair bit of speed, got some unexpected air and cased the landing into the face of one of the rollers and went OTB. Broken collarbone, suspected fractures around the shoulder blade at the back, and possible lower back injury.

Just wanted to say I hope your lower back is fine, your collarbone and shoulder aren't too bad and that you heal up fast.

Old Man's Valley update for 09 Nov

Status:
Green/Open

Dry and fast, and buffed clean.

Went up there to practice on the 26er that I'm taking to Rotorua, whch turned out to have contaminated brakes.

Fortunately the Trek test ride day was in full swing, so I scored a ride on a Trek Fuel EX9, which was a damn impressive bike.

Love the new flow loop. Best fun I've had for ages.

Terrey Hills update for 08 Nov

Status:
Green/Open

Perimeter and Long good from Nerang. Some puddles but very minor. Some sand, but hit it fast and keep the bike under you and it's all good.

Super busy this morning, lots of non-racer types and a few runners.

There's a massive tree branch down across Cowan trail about 1/3rd of the way in. You can hike-a-bike around it no problems.

MD extended loop direction?

Hi all,
Just wondering if there is a house view on the correct direction of the Manly Dam extended loop single trail. I was out this morning heading north and a came across 5 or 6 riders coming towards me. It's pretty tight so not much time to avoid each other.
Is there an agreed direction?
Thanks,

Manly Dam update for 08 Nov

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Green/Open

Haven't been around for many months so took a cruise - all good. Next big storm will add back some excitement to the downhill. Heartbreak is fine. The changes to the rock slide along the Golf course are interesting.... in a bad way but hit em at speed and had to make a snap decision but conditions were otherwise perfect and at 8am it was really, really quiet. Must be the Highland Fling
