Bairne Track update for 11 Mar

Area:
Bairne Track
Status:
Green/Open

Bairne track has dried a lot during last couple of sunny days.
Trail surface still damp, and water on trail in a few places BUT easy to avoid with care.
Rain has washed soil off steeper sections leaving many loose rocks.
Conclusion - Trail damp but good to ride at moment, further rain may quickly change this status.

Appin update for 11 Mar

Area:
Appin
Status:
Red/Closed

I went out for a walk to flag the reroute this morning and do a little more work on some other sections.

Plenty of riders out. Mostly they appeared new to the sport and were riding Appin because Mt Annan is closed!

The creek crossings are up but crossable if you are very careful and don't mind getting a bit wet. There is water still running down the track in places and lots of standing water. Some sections are very soft and recent erosion due to water, mtbers and motos is extremely obvious.

I really think it needs a solid week at the least to become rideable without causing any real damage. The rutts and widening just from riders yesterday and today was noticeable.

Cascades update for 10 Mar

Area:
Cascades
Status:
Amber/Some Issues

I'm calling orange. It's wet, but not any worse than I've seen it. There's been some extra holes formed so watch it where water is/has pooled on the steep bits. Some nice wheel size holes to catch the unwary and plenty of toaster sized rocks, too. And that's not to forget the volumes of grapefruit sized rocks.

Oh, and the odd bit of new foliage adorning the fringes. Nearly got skewered on a fallen tree hidden in the shrubbery on the Quarry track crossing. Right where you're going the fastest. Thanks for that, Vlad.

...and then there's the tree across the track near the sandy/muddy creek crossing east of the Cascades junction.

So, apart from the wet, the wheel catching holes, the rocks, unfortunately placed limbs and the fallen tree it's all good.

Beats the sh*t out of going to the gym. Laughing out loud

Lane Cove National Park update for 10 Mar

Status:
Amber/Some Issues

Did a short ride today and it was wet, but not as bad as I expected. There is still runoff coming into the valley from the recent rain, and there are plenty of puddles and a few muddy patches, but I've seen it in much worse condition. Soil has been washed away on one of the regular climbs I do, leaving it rockier and more technical than it used to be. In short, it is rideable but be prepared to get very muddy if you ride it tomorrow. About 5 days like today will see it dry out quite a bit.

Nice ride pity about OTB

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Its so wet, so decided to take to the road on the Giant. Did a loop down to Manly, Cabbage Bay, Curl Curl up Warringah rd, back to Forest. Really nice day to just coast along the beaches, but coming back up Warringah Rd is a bit tough.

Decided to cross Warringah Rd and bunny hop the gutter. These gutters are about twice your normal size. Got front over, but misjudged the rear and stopped dead and did a cartwheel over bars onto grass besides foot path. all in view of six lanes of traffic at set of lights.

Appin update for 10 Mar

Area:
Appin

Red/Closed

I went out for a walk to plan a reroute this morning. Might go out to flag it tomorrow.

Plenty of riders out. Apparently they didn't think it was going to be wet is the response I got when i asked!

The mont

Hi guys . Just wondering if you can light camp fires at the mont? This is my first one and thought it may be a good idea to take a bit of the chill out of the night. Or roast some marshmallows. Cheers.

Sparrow Hill update for 09 Mar

Given the bucketing Kowen has received, and is now red, I can't see that Sparrow could possibly have fared any better.
