Flood damage to bikes
On Sunday I had the misfortune of a flooded garage. This was basically caused by all the heavy rain late at night. If you are interested, here is a video of the flooding:

Im trying to get the insurance claim done. Does anyone know anything about water damage to bicycles? The bikes were completely submerged in muddy water overnight, I pulled them out in the morning. (Giant Roam ladies, Commencal Meta 5.2 and a custom built hybrid/racer)

Appin update for 21 Feb
I rode the track this afternoon to check out our handiwork from Saturday that I hadn't ridden yet. The first creek crossing has risen since Saturday with some bit over hub deep to get across. In it's current state I would say the track is still amber. A few bits have heaps of water on them. IN places the water is still running down the track, although slowly. If you skip the first bit of singletrack and ride the firetrail to the creek crossing, then after Kings Falls Bridge take the firetrail to the right and back to the start it would be okay to ride but those singletrack sections are red.

Lane Cove National Park update for 21 Feb
Well the trails were pretty good on Sunday, but I went and had a quick look this evening and they're looking very soggy again. We had a lot of rain Sunday evening and Monday night. With some warm weather forecast for Thursday and Friday they should be OK again by the weekend.

Knapsack Reserve update for 21 Feb
We have had 40-50 mm of rain since sunday night. Knapsack dries pretty quickly but will need at least another day without rain and some sun before it is rideable.

Game trail riding in wild Africa
For those who may have read my recent blog on heli-biking in Queenstown NZ- here is something that topped that experience!
I returned over the weekend from a fantastic few days in the Kruger - a wildlife sanctuary (about the size of Wales) in South Africa where we were fortunate enough to accompany 2 armed rangers on a mountain bike trail ride following existing game trails (and making a few trails of our own).

Proposed Mountain bike track in Centenial Park Sydney.
I am a Mountain Bike enthusiast living in the heart of Sydney. So like many in my position it takes at least an hour to get to a good cross country track. Then on the weekend i was riding my roadie in Centenial Park, and i noticed the amount of unused grass around the perimeter of the park and had an epiphany. Why not build a single track around the edge of the park, seperated by a fence to protect both the cyclist and the pedestrians. So here i am trolling all Sydneys bicycling web sites lookingfor support.

Glenbrook and Wentworth Falls loop, via Oaks, Ingar, Andersons and Oaks again

Glenbrook station carpark.
Hi All.
Getting ready for the Capital Punishment (17th March), and it's overdue for some serious time spent off-road.
This will be a voyage of the great unknown for this wannabe racer. I've only done this ride one-way, and then they were the easy option; Wentworth down to Glenbrook.
This time it's a climb up to Wentworth via Ingar , then back down again via Andersons to Glenbrook. (With quite a bit more 'climbs up' thrown in between!)

New 2013 Cannondale models released - now with even beefier tubes...

HMBA XC Rd 2
This was my first local club race - & a great learning experience. Having come out of a recent cold & minor ankle surgery, I signed up for D grade. I found it easier than I thought... I'll be in C grade next time.
My ankle held up fine. I'm getting the stitches out today. The new parts of the track look great! I'm really looking forward to seeing the pros power around in a few weeks.
I did find it a little hard to figure out who was racing who... maybe there should be a coloured arm band system? Red = A Grade, Blue = B Grade etc.
