New Zealand South Island - bike hire
hi,
heading over to new zealand (south island) for a week with the family. so far i have negotiated one whole day(!) for mountain biking.
was wondering where to make best use of this generously allocated quality time so basically looking for an awesome trail experience on a decent hired bike (if there is such a thing). i've heard good things about the queens town region but any info would be much appreciated.
thanks

Blur XC carbon vs Spark RC
Hi guys,
Looking at a new frame sometime in the new year. Have ridden a 2011 spark, never tried the Santa though.
There's not much in it regarding cost. The Scott is a tiny bit lighter but then the Santa is a lot cooler
Anyone ridden both?
Cheers
Stefan

Yellow lenses
I currently use a pair of Tifosi yellow tinted lenses when riding. A couple of times lately in this crap weather, I've taken them off when on the dirt (mud) so I could see better. Each time, it suddenly feels like I'm considerably closer to the ground, my forks are shorter and I'm at risk of going over the bars. Yet putting the glasses on initially (or like now) doesn't suddenly make everything seem further away.
Is it just the water on the lenses making things seem further away before I take the glasses off, or is there some other phenomena at work here?

Manly Dam update for 22 Dec
Headed out before the rain started this morning for my first lap of the Dam for over a year. Rained steadily after I got going and the track turned from damp to soggy / boggy, with lots of standing water. Needs a few days of sunshine, which it doesn't look like getting any time soon. If I was a Warringah Council ranger, it would have been red / closed from about mid morning.

KOM gone or moved?
Haven't had a chance to stop and read the note on the window, but noticed that KOM's Neutral Bay shopfront has been looking dark and vacant this week. What's happened? Anybody know?

Appin XC track maintenance
The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.
North end of Burke St, Appin. There's a small parking area here at the trail head.
Note that the map shows Market Street connecting Appin Rd to this location but that is actually a firetrail and will not work for drivers who should take King St (next block South) and enter from there.
Bring your own tools if possible. I'll try to ge some from WMBC as well. We'll probably start just by walking around the track and tidying up the drainage. Don't forget sunscreen and plenty of water.

Red Hill update for 21 Dec
i rode red hill this evening-if your heading out there wear gumboots-or maybe waders!unfortunately the motos have torn the s@#$t out of it as well so there is some major erosion on most of the trails i did today.
