Bairne Track

Bairne Climb

This climb used to be quite a challenge with very loose surface and rutting. Now baby smooth!

Another recently graded section

Another section dumbed down that used to have little boulders and rock ledges one could practice on. All gone now.

Recently graded section

Looking in reverse back to the trail entrance, this section along with many other sections has been recently graded making it a smooth ride and ideal for newbies. This section used to be badly rutted and washed by years of rainfall making it a little challenging for first-timers.

It was the first of four races in the next few months being held at Terrey Hills Bmx track/ equestrian center.
After Doing the Fling on my cyclocross bike I thought, "never again" and looked forward to a proper, short and fast race on a course that better suited the skinny tyres.
The Boys and Girls at Manly Warringah CC have been talking about organizing a few CX races and as a few more of us have caught the bug and got bikes then their plans were put into action.

A brief but enjoyable ride around local trails - Some firetrail, some technical singletrack. Quick pace, but sure isn't a race.

Can be as long as we want - plenty of places to stop for a view, but plenty of speed, fitness and fun.

Tire choice

I have recently purchased my first dual suspension bike, however over he last 2 months I have worn down the back tire significantly. I do the majority of my riding around Manly dam and have noticed the grip that I am getting with the Rocket Rons is deteriorating along with the tread at a rapid rate.
Is this a more a problem with my riding technique or would I be better to go with a more durable tire. Can anyone suggest a better tire? I am thinking that nobby nics may be an option not that i need to stay with schwalbe.
Thanks in advance
JHT

Terrey Hills update for 04 Dec

Status:
Amber/Some Issues

From Japanese School to Long - rode from 12:45 just after the heavy thunderstorm had come through. Very wet and chain grindingly muddy. Bloody cold too! Also rode Cowan Trail which was very well drained. Lots for fun with the techy bits to practice on. I've given an Amber/some issues status as one may not want to hammer ones drive train like I did today!

Do you have more information?

If you've ridden here lately please add a more recent report. This will be useful even if the condition is the same as updates expire after 30 days.

Please Read: Get to Forestville Park - NIMBY's in action

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

There is a car boot sale at Forestville Park today (Bottom of Currie Road, Forestville).

A local NIMBY has hijacked the event and is spreading mis-information about the proposed Garigal National Park trails and asking residents to sign a partition against it (based on this mis-information). She was saying things like the trails will be going over aboriginal features, that the trails will be rolling a creek line and causing erosion, etc etc. A NIMBY through and through though as she was pushing the point that the other areas of Garigal National Park would be OK.
