No more derailleur?

An NZ company's go at a bike without derailleurs hanging out there to destroy. Uses a hub gear in the mid frame. Hard to believe that it'd have the same weight as the usual derailleurs, cluster, chainring setup. The way of the future for all MTB's? Apparently Specialized have been testing the Zerode out.

Manly Dam update for 29 Nov

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Red/Closed

Hi Mountain Bikers,

We are receiving a lot of calls enquiring about the track status. We have just completed an inspection of the track, and unfortunately while some sections have dried out well, other sections remain well and truly waterlogged. As such the track will remain closed at this stage. We will re-inspect on Thursday and advise accordingly. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Also, Council is seeking comment on the Draft Mountain Biking in Warringah: Research and Directions paper. The document considers the demand for mountain bike facilities in Warringah and discusses potential opportunities to increase provision. It encompasses all forms of off-road cycling, such as cross country, downhill, dirt jumping and free riding. The document can be viewed at http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/comment/comment.... as well as at Council's Civic Centre at Dee Why and each of Council's libraries. Submissions are to be addressed to the General Manager by COB Thursday 15 December and can be emailed to [email protected] or posted to the Civic Centre, 725 Pittwater Road Dee Why 2099.

Kind regards,
Manly Dam Rangers

Some days you shouldnt ride

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I had 5 hours from 10am to 3pm to get to Emu Heights (from Frenchs Forest), ride Nepean River to Yellowmundee, do a lap and get back to pick up my kid from Preschool. I figured 1hr our, 3hrs to do the trails and a lap and 1 hr back.

I lost 20 minutes in a M7 smash where traffic was stopped and only 1 lane open. Thus would have to cut back the Yellowmundee lap.

I found a spot to park at beginning of Nepean ride amongst 20 odd bong bottles, Maccas rubbish. It was 33 degrees and 11:30am.

Chiltern Track update for 29 Nov

Area:
Chiltern Track
Status:
Green/Open

Chiltern is reasonably dry after the rain. Still some wet patches at the water bars, but not so bad that your drive train or the track will end up ruined. The grading has been nicely packed down as well.

Elvina Track update for 29 Nov

Area:
Elvina Track
Status:
Green/Open

Elvina has dried out well after the rain. Still some wet patches under the trees at the top of the concrete climb, but otherwise very good. The sandy patches are nice and tacky.

Online MTB Information / Magazine sources

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

All

Some great links and online sources and articles of MTB specific stuff have been posted up here in recent times .

I though I would start this post, to see if we could put our heads together and compile a list of some of the great free (or cheap) information sources that are out there that some of us may or may not be aware of.

For the regular stuff we can add links to this site so we have a one stop shop for some great information.

Some stuff that I have come across:

Bike Magazine on Zinio - 9 issues for A$6
