OMV to Stay Open

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Posted on Hornsby Shire Council. Sweet.

Hornsby Shire Council has some great news for the thousands of mountain bikers who love the trail in Old Mans Valley: it is going to stay open throughout the rehabilitation of Hornsby Quarry.

“For a while it looked like we would have to shut it down, but now it will only need to close for a few months while it is altered,” Hornsby Shire Mayor Steve Russell said.

“Council knows what that trail means to a lot of people, so we put considerable effort into finding a solution that would allow it to stay open.

Fox Fit RLC or SID RCT3 100mm forks for a 29er

Hi all,

I'm looking to get a 2nd hand fork, so that I can offload my current one (REBA RL) to my hardtail built.
I'm tossing up between the 2 forks, SIDs are more expensive but lighter. Fox is cheaper, heavier though but better internals according to my mechanic mate.

Anyone have experience with either forks and can share their preference ?

Cheers,
Mario

Withdrawn: 56cm Trek Boone Carbon CX Frame including seatpost and stem

Note that this is "Withdrawn" so is here for archive purposes only.

Price:
1,250.00

Hi - selling for a mate.
Really excellent condition Trek Boone CX frameset. 56cm, with seatmast and a stem (can be flexible with stem length).

This is the top of the line Trek CX frame, which also has mounts for racks / mudguards. It would make an amazing CX race bike, but an equally amazing super-commuter / gravel grinder / winter road bike.
If it was my size, I'd have picked it up myself.

The frame is in excellent condition - with less than 1000km ridden on it. Located in Balmain, can be shipped etc if needed.

Kiwarrak State Forest update for 30 May

Status:
Amber/Some Issues

Forestry's hazard burn was completed last week but some timber continues to smoulder.
Please ride the trails with caution: some of the structures have been damaged or destroyed altogether and there may still be some fallen trees / branches across the trails. Also some of the signage for the trail loops has been destroyed and so is now inconsistent. The trails themselves are dry / dusty and loose in places, but rain is forecast for later in the week.

Canberra

Well it was a lovely -1 this morning when I headed out the door for my morning ride. Canberra is great for riding whatever your preference, road, cycleways, and of course mountain biking, but it's bloody cold and it's not even winter yet, wish me luck with my first winter down here, I hope I don't die from exposure.

Terrey Hills update for 30 May

Status:
Green/Open

Perimeter Track is pretty good. Still a few wet spots, but getting plenty of traffic, so a good riding line most of the way. Didn't get out to see Long and Cowan. Cullamine Track is fine. The horse track from near the start of Booralie Rd through to Killawarra (Weemala Sniggle) is a mostly metre deep rut, with a couple of tricky step-ups in that direction. Sandy Trail is, well, pretty sandy but is riding OK - horse tracks outnumber tyre tracks however. Neverfail has a big boggy section, but the rest is OK. Larool is fine, with even the cobblestone section reasonably dry.

OK, but it seems pretty rocky and sandy and not as much fun to ride as it once was....

Wildflower Garden update for 30 May

Status:

Phil's Sneaky is fine. Nursery sniggle has another dead tree down near the nursery end start which requires a bit of a shimmy to get around. RFS have put in some burn line clearings running off the track and away from the road, which are taped off with warnings that they are NOT for bicycles. Shame, as they probably run down to the fire trail and could make a nice loop. Also means that there is likely to be a HRB shortly, which might lower the tone of the place for a while. Horse trail sniggle is fine, albeit suffering a little from heavy usage in places. Muppets is fine.
Lots of pink tape hanging off branches everywhere (I haven't been out here for a few weeks) - given the sort of stuff the tape is tied to, I'm assuming it is leftover stuff from another trail running event? Thought it might have been some sort of endangered species survey related to the proposed change in land use around the gun club, but the ribbon is on dead trees and plenty of what look to be pretty common species.
