Glenbrook to the Oaks
The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.
Glenbrook Park, in the carpark across from the shops.
Social pace. Glenbrook to the Oaks(the middle gate) via Euroka and Bennetts Ridge firetrail, return on the single track.

Getting better........
Got into the 24's but had help due to the changed finish point.
I felt like I struggled to get moving along the top of the ridge, after 19 fast kms at Yellowmundee yesterday afternoon. The legs were feeling sluggish, but the time was pretty fast so I think it was just in my head.
I can still make up time through the mid section of the swamp where I tend to blow out and ease off - just need to keep focused and push on.
Next goal is a high 23min loop by the end of March then I think double timed laps under 1 hr are in order.

Knapsack Reserve update for 20 Feb
All good at Knapsack Reserve. Anyone ever noticed the dove that sits in the middle of the track here?
There seems to be an increasing number of people walking their dogs off leash.

Dave_B cracks lower chainstay
* Edited due to some sound advice from another member that I hadn't thought of.
So Dave_B and myself head out for an easy GHS ride today. We were literally just cruising along not pushing at all (as Dave was a bit out of shape hehe). A few little rises off the water bars 2/3rd's of the way to the lookout and Dave manages to crack his lower chainstay, lucky it didn't happen on Bee's Nest or the Shaw's decent. So a nice cruisy Sun ride turned into a 5-6km hike a bike for Dave.
I searched online a bit and it turns out this is quite a common problem with these frames.

The Oaks update for 20 Feb
Oaks is way fast, plenty of traction and very few squirly bits, lots of loose rocks on the decents, little bit sketch coming down red wire saddle, single track is nice few loose rocks but all good.

Finally conquered Bee's Nest
Well I finally rode Bee's Nest from bottom to top without stopping, dabbing or coming unstuck in any other way. First time I have cleared it in one hit. The time was actually slower then I have done it with a quick walk in the middle, but I happy to just have cleared it.
The damp surface provided losts of grip which I think made the difference. I started really slow as I was feeling a bit sluggish and tight but managed to go ok.
Now to get the times down to something more respectable.

The Wheeler Street Machine
1997 Double-butted chro-moly hardtail with Snake stays, Rockshox Indy C (60mm of super-plush Type 2 coil/elastomer shock-absorbing magic with no need for rebound damping), touring tyres, v-brakes (Servo-wave Action levers!), original XT/LX running gear still going strong, beatiful backswept bars, rack, reflectors, bell, intricate gaff tape finish, 13 years of loving abuse (done more endos at Oxford Falls than I care to remember), now relegated to city duties but still dreams of past off-road glory...

Helmet Camera
I am thinking of buying a helmet camera and am looking for some advice. I have no experience of video cameras or helmet cams.
The ContourHD seems to be the pick of the bunch from the reviews I have read but it would be good to hear from people who have actually used a helmet cam.

Off the edge

Winmalee update for 12 Feb
Long angle is in the process of being graded...for what reson i have no idea? but its still rideable ,just soft and loamy for most of the track...also the run from sun valley back to the clearing in long angle is the same...makes for a tough ride.
Be careful of the dozer thats out there...he wont hear or see you coming...luckily you can hear him from miles away!
Had to laugh at the sign they had as a warning though, it said something like 'soil conservation', yeah right!
I cant help but think that the damage this thing was doing is just slightly worse than the damage a few mountain bikes could ever do...the track is so soft and dusty the next time it rains its just gunna wash it away...
Take care
