An afternoons play at Menai
By the sports field on Old Illawarra Road, Barden Ridge.
After last weekend’s hell like ride at the Doctor, I'm wanting to put some fun back into my riding.
Looking to spend some time on some of the technical trails, the smaller free ride area and some of the sweet single track. Pace will be fairly slow (legs still haven’t recovered from cramping up for six hours) and I’ll be stopping regularly to rerun sections and build up the nerve to tackle some of the trickier stuff.
Nasho at night
Usually Loftus Oval, Sutherland, just off the Princes Highway.
im going for a spin in the dark, any takers?
old farts scenic tour of Andersons
Meet at Hazelbrook !!! 7am
--Meet at Woodford Train Station to catch the 7.24 train up to Wentworth Falls.--
nobmob weather, no rain last 7 days
accuweather checked, light showers on Sat night, Sun 24degrees, but a bit high in the windy side
state rail, no track work
legs, ouch from Bathurst Jog but improving
Me Dad's Place for off street parking and coffee beforehand.
--Woodford Station for the 7.24 train--
(wow, the street view is exactly where we'll be parking)
don't be surprised if we goof off and catch the 8.54, note to self, get sleep on Sat night
Ourimbah XC track
North End of Red Hill Rd, Ourimbah State Forest. There's a large-ish parking area here, just off the main sealed road. There is also a smaller parking area a little further (400m or so from the road) where the trail splits - this second area is the usual meeting point. If you end up driving up a steep hill you've gone too far.
After struggling though the hills at Mogo last year, I thought better of doing the Angry Doctor this year and just have not done enough prep. Anyhow, for those who are not going here is a good ride we can do.
I would like to do 3 laps, but if there is any demand for the DH we can have a crack at that too and do 2 xc laps.
This will be social, but limited stops, so only intermediate riders please.
Manly Dam - was Perimeter & Long
King Street (near corner with Arana Street), Manly Vale. You know - outside Manly Hydraulics Lab.
We were going up to Terry Hills, but since it's going to be so hot and there's only 2 of us who don't know the tracks, we changed our minds and headed to Manly for an early start.
meet 8:15ish for an 8:30 start.
Feel free to join us - then maybe you can show us the way!
I've finally managed to get another MTB after having a roadie for a few years and it's about time to start exploring the Sydney tracks.
Red Hill Ride (Not DH)
Red Hill Reserve car park, off Lady Penryhn Drive, Beacon Hill. Another option is to ride over here from Oxford Falls.
Ride Red Hill loop
NOT down the Sports Academy.
social pace
need to bed in my new brake pads
Mt York
Mt York Road, in Mount Victoria. Possibly the lookout car park at the end, though it's not too big if lots turn up. Otherwise, the petrol station back at the highway.
we've been doing exercise, touring, picture taking, and www.geocaching.com
looked at this area on a rainy day, and this weekend is going to be tops, says accuweather
short plan is

Menai Single Track
Lucas Heights Community School, 132 Old Illawarra Road. Barden Ridge
The ride will be predominantly single track at a medium pace. It will take in some technical climbs, technical descents. flowing single track and a visit to both of the "North Shore" areas. The free ride areas consist of just about everything from small drops and gaps to large drops and gaps and of course some great berms. We will have a couple of runs at the two different areas and then move onto more single track. This ride is probably best suited to riders who have an intermediate skill level.
Off to Appin again
North end of Burke St, Appin. There's a small parking area here at the trail head.
Note that the map shows Market Street connecting Appin Rd to this location but that is actually a firetrail and will not work for drivers who should take King St (next block South) and enter from there.
Will be heading down to Appin again this Saturday for 2 - 3 laps. Will be there about 8.30am but may be a little late if I encounter any traffic. If any one fancies joining me let me know, I'll be glad of the company.
Will most likely be taking the singlespeed hardtail out so it won't be fast laps but I'm aiming to do a reasonable pace.
UPDATE: Time now updated to 8.30am as 8.16 seemed a bit to fussy. Not sure what happened there.
Cheers
Dave
