Not happy Wiggle!!!!!
18 days after a $250+ order and my order is no where to be seen.
This my second order through Wiggle... the first took over 10 days to be delivered... thought I'd give them another shot.
Is this normal or have I just had two bad experiences?
Mountain Bike Australia Mag
I've just noticed that 'Mountain Bike Australia' Magazine is now available for digital download on 'Zinio.' I have been quite happy using Zinio for the last few months - particularly a subscription to 'Surfer' & 'Bike' for $9 each.
Bargain.
This is not meant to be a promo! Just letting you all know. The American publication of 'Bike' at $9 for 9 issues is a bargain. (If a few of you are cunning enough, you could share a username/password and share subscriptions across multiple computers/tablets)

DT Swiss RWS Thru Bolt
Hi guys,
This should be a quick one... Looking at stiffening up the rear on my Scott Scale hardtail (carbon version) so I was going to convert my DT 240 hubs to the 10mm thru bolt.
Only there's so many options that I thought I might just double check before I order the wrong one.
The thru bolt comes in 135 and 150, fairly sure I need the 135, which is the width of the hub but then what would the 150 version be for?
Here's a link to the bolt and kit, if anyone who knows this stuff could have a quick look I'd be forever grateful.
tracks

Help planning commute
Hi forum,
I'm thinking about driving the car less and cycling more often (Hardtail) in Sydney's North.
I would appreciate some advice and ideas to the best way to cycle from 3 different "A to B".
I would like a reasonably fast ride that is safe and also a bit fun. I would rather avoid busy main roads.
Directions, google map or a link to a useful trip planning resource would be much appreciated.
Which way to ride from Sydney East Substation in Belrose to:
1. Manly Ferry in Manly.
2. Warriewood surf club off narrabeen park parade.
3. Hornsby Train Station.
Thankyou,
kris
West Head Closed due to hazard reduction burn
Just in case anyone is lucky enough to be considering riding in the next two days please be advised that the whole of West Head is now closed until further notice. This obviously includes Elvina, Salvation, Towlers Bay, etc, etc. I would imagine Duck Holes & Centre might also be worth avoiding depending on the amount of smoke.
I have been advised that this should only last for a couple of days but please take note and check the NSW NPWS Fires, floods and park closures page for more details.
Currently it states,
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service wish to notify that as of 12:00 midday on Monday 14th November 2011 the West Head / Lambert Peninsula area of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park will be closed to all traffic and pedestrians due to a hazard reduction burn. The area closed includes West Head Road and all West Head walking tracks. It will remain closed until further notice.
Tyres for Fast Rocky Stuff
So after the sidewall on my rear tyre gave out just 10k into the Half Fling yesterday (on a fast, rocky downhill bit - subsequently repaired with gel wrappers and a bit of cardboard) I'm in the market for a couple of new tyres for my Specialized Stumpy.
Currently I am (was!) running the standard Specialized 'The Captain' tyres, but back in the UK, when I've known the trail is going to be rough & rocky (eg at the Welsh trail centres), I've tended to use Maxxis Minions, which are robust but pretty heavy.
XTR crank help
A slight crank noise developed today during a spin, & I've found out what it was. The crank has about 1mm of slop moving left to right. (See photo below)
The arrow indicates where the 1mm slop is occurring. These cranks are slightly different to others I've had in the past. Any advice as to how to retighten them?
Why I love mtb'ers and mtb'ing!
Went for what was meant to be a relaxing ride around the dam yesterday when my brothers chain busted out on the halfway mark to the dot. Not having a chain link we decided it was best if I continue on as quick as possible. A couple of k's later and my tyre blows. Looking like a numpty as to why the tyre wouldn't pull off the rim to chuck the spare on a very nice bloke stopped and helped swap the tube over and get on my way.
Cheers mate.
glenrock trails
stumbled across glen rock today(am staying with a friend at cowrie hole and went for an urban ride, ended up at a trailhead somehow...)so started riding it without realising where i was.Another rider gave me a brief description of the place-thankyou dude on the cannon dale hard tail w head shock ,your directions were idiot(me)proof and i found my way easily.Part of the reason of coming to newcastle was to ride these trails for the first time ,guessing i might have covered a third of it today.not overly techy, but how cool ripping down single track with glimpses and some times full blown views
how important is your frame quality
ok here is somthing i have been pondering.
how important is the frame quality .i am aware that in all logic a $300 bike would mean the frame is proberly badly welded and not designed for singletrack riding.what about a $1000 bikes frame which in theory should be built stronger and with better geometry and then anything above $1000 would be the best built frames.
i ask this as i have a monteri 3 avanti 2011(model with setpost support ) which i have updated all parts and need to find out if the frame is good enough
cheers
Where to get cleat screws?
Hi Team
One of my cleat screws fell out the other day so I just need to get a replacement and maybe a spare or two for the box. Are they a standard size that I can pick up from a fastener supplier or will a LBS have some without screwing me on price?
thanks in advance

XT cranks cracking noise
Hi all. I am running 2009 & 2010 XT cranks on my bikes and have always noticed a loud "crack" noise every so often when applying power again after a bit of rolling.
It doesn't happen all the time but it's annoying. I suspect that it's the chain seating on the teeth but obviously can't prove it.
Any idea's?
BB is fine
Cheers Tony

Fitting of a XTR FD-M970 front derailleur*
A while back a cheap XTR E-type front derailleur came up on ebay and this seemed like a good chance to swap out the old LX that came on the second hand frame I bought.
This all seemed pretty simple, I pulled off the cranks, unbolted the LX and bolted on the XTR derailleur. I run a 2x9 set up and for the life of me I couldn't get the chain not to rub from the 4th gear at the back, on the bottom of the cage. As this is an E-type bolted into the bottom bracket/frame I can't just slide it up to solve my problem.
Getting to peak operating capacity quicker
With all the talk on strategies for the Fling, going out fast, starting slow etc etc I thought I would get some advice on how to get to peak performance, and techniques that can help to improves this.
I find in races, no matter how hard I try the first 20 - 30km hurt / heart rate is up / lots of energy gets spent.
Bottom Bracket help
I had my chain off the the bike to give it a good clean before the Fling and noticed that the cranks had a lot of friction ( like it was in the lowest gear). I took the BB all apart and cleaned. Once it was back again the issue was still there. Does that mean I need a new BB or could it be another issue?

27.5er anyone?
Finally got my conti race king to fly up and seal. I expected it to be big but not that much.
And it's not the width but the diameter that's the problem.
It spins freely and i would love to try it but there's just not enough clearance in my frame.
So, out with the measuring tape and it is actually a full 3cm taller than a Racing Ralph or a Rocket Ron. (at 40psi). 69.5 cm total which makes it almost 27.5 inches.
Anyone still tossing up between a 26er and a 29er, here's your chance. Will pass it on for 50....
This is the 2.2 supersonic....
Cheers
Garmin Edge GPS suggestions??
Hi everyone!
I'm on the market for a new GPS and I think the best option (with a budget less than $350) is the Garmin Edge 500 or 705. Any comments, advise, stories (good or bads), etc..
thanks
Apology - Roadie content
Came across this cycling event being held on Newcastle foreshore and King Edward Park.
Are some MTB events - a slalom race.
Good for raising cycling profile perhaps???

Mont 24
Just wondering if anyone has a spot in a team leaning more to the fun side than the competitive side. If there is enough interest maybe creating a team. A team of 4 would be Ok but 6 would be great.
Cheers
