Our dirty little secret is out!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

It's not news to us of course, but it looks like it is news for the mainstream media. Our dirty little secret is out Eye-wink

Mountain biking is now the subject of travel and health articles in Sydney newspapers. Besides the multi-page spread in the Sunday Telegraph's chix section Body & Soul a couple of weekends ago, I've noticed more and more travel articles appearing in places like the Sydney Morning Herald.

Here's a piece by Katrina Lobley on Idaho's Sun Valley having "perfect dirt" for mountain biking :

Does a new chain need cleaning?

I'm about to change my chain for the first time... I've seen it done a few times now, & taken out a broken link once myself. Not hard.

But, does my new XTR chain come pre-lubed? Or do I have to degrease it and re-lube it? What is that stuff it's coated in in the packet...

Lets talk about Shaft

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

So, Shaft is looking pretty flogged. Pretty significant braking ruts at the entry of a few of the corners at various places. Needing some pretty substantial maintenance, although i'm not convinced that maintenance is all that it needs.

What say you good glenrockians

Just. Completed the tre-x triathlon. Very well run event set on the banks of the hawkesbury river. I highly recommend having a go next year if you like a challenge.

Disk brakes

Can you mix brands when it comes to brakes?
For example put shimano rotors on an Avid system?
Does it fit and will it work?

Knapsack Reserve Dirt Jumps (Lennox Bridge Jumps)

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hey guys, i have recently been to these jumps located just off olivet street, and i noticed how large they are in size. I can personally jump these, but i know that beginners are often discouraged, and will not fully make use of this interim dirt jump site. It would be great if some of the original jumps could be reduced in size, or made as tabletops, or maybe other smaller jumps could be built in this area. I would gladly help with any issues regarding these trails and there development, either it be a dig day or whatever.
Thanks, csrides.

Hazard Reduction smoke

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

To any who are considering riding in the mid mountains this weekend, especially Winmalee, Yellomundee etc, there are 2 hazard reduction burns taking place at Wheeny Gap and the Vale of Avoca, which are dumping loads of smok into the area.

From our back deck looking out towards Springwood Ridge and Grose Head South is as hazy as I've seen it in a long time. It stinks.

Besides that, get fair up it!

2011 UCI Marathon World Championships

Looking at the results of this years Marathon World Championships
I am surprised to observe that this is no Australian representation in the race.

Surely we have athletes of the caliber to compete in such an event. The course being 115km and 2870m of climbing may have even suited some of our elite riders.

for those in the know, I would be interested in understanding why we do no have a team representing
Australia ? Is it a funding / sponsorship issue or some MTB politics ?

Weekday rides during business hours?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey all,

Does any like minded people have their weekdays free to hit the trails? Just started working in the late evening so am free to go off road once or twice a week.

I'm thinking it generally needs to be one of Sydneys more local trails (manly dam, Appin, mt Annan, Royal National park, parramatta lakes etc.) but yeah keen to hook up for rides.

Trees down on Perimeter trail from Echunga

Anyone know why the start of Perimeter from Echunga has so many trees down and strategically placed to potentially injure a rider. I moved a couple, but not all!

I bought and installed the seat post a month ago, seemed to be working fine without a tweak for the first few rides but now it wont return up unless i pull it back up while holding the button in. Ive adjusted the return speed to max but that hasnt helped.

Bleeding Avid Elixir's

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Well i am about to change my brake lines on my avid elixir cr/sl's, i am putting goodridge lines on it, only problem is i have been warned that the elixir's are very hard to bleed and been described to me as an art form??..i have had a massive amount of experience with bleeding shimano brakes very successfully over the years, but this has got me worried, any hints from anybody on what makes these so hard would be very much appreciated!

Buying from ebay/Rotorburn/Other sites

Seriously considering a bike off Rotorburn. Anyone got any advice how I can verify the authenticty of ownership. The seller does not have any sales reciepts. How has anyone done this previously. I would hate to buy stolen goods and have to return them and be out of pocket.
Thanks

Stromlo xc trail condition?

Heading down to Stromlo at the end of October. Just wondering what the condition of the trails are like presently. Some trail footage from the Scott 24 looked like it was washed out a little in places. Any update appreciated. Cheers Ecca

I'm curious to know what the Pros and Cons are and when I would choose to run 170's over 175's etc?

Hi all, I need an easy flat- ish ride around Hornsby

I have done a bit of riding in the past but I am trying to get my teenage son interested and we are finding some of the big hill rides a little gut busting... I figure if we do some fun but flat -ish rides to build up we might be more likely to stick at it.

Spring Cycle, who did it?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Did my first Spring Cycle yesterday. What a great day out! Tweaked a couple of things on the hardtail and bought some hybrid tyres for the ride.

Having the Cahill Expressway closed to cars for the morning was great, as were all the marshals scattered through the burbs. Thank you one and all.

Had a great time apart from busting a chain (twice) and having to wait around for the bike shop to open. MC Cyclery are the bomb! Thank you guys for getting me going ASAP. (OTOH the other mob down Clarence St will never see 1c of my money after yesterday's attitude... )
