New Bike Advise

Hi Guys,

I am after your collective wisdom on which bike I should buy. I think I have secured a budget of around $3.5k -$4k. I only ride XC and was looking for a dually (old and soft !).

Any thoughts on what would be a good buy at the moment ?

Cheers

I was cleaning up the Taurine to sell it the other day when my heart sank,
I'd found a crack on the rear brakemount.
I was going to put it on here and on ebay but instead i took it to Bike Addiction as i heard from a mate that they fic up carbon frames,

Latest Trail Status feature

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

So I see Manly Dam, Lane Cove and Yellomundee are currently a green light. I guess they are "latest" status, but really.. does it serve any point? Those 3 rides would be washed out with rain and currently not ridable.

MANLY
Actually I have not had a manly ranger email, so I'm guessing Manly must be open, even though we have had so much rain. Seems crazy.

YELLOMUNDEE
I doubt WSMTB would like anybody heading to Yellomundee Regional Park to ride.

Post Fling Blues?

Anyone else suffering from Post Fling Blues?. What a awesome event.

That big green climb at the 100km mark was a killer... I wondered if anyone has a photo looking up at that big green hill, as would be a good training motivator for next year.

Im guessing the next big one will be James Williamson March 11th, then the Mont 24

GPS Bike Computer Advice

I'm going to ask Santa for a GPS bike computer, and am interested in opinions on the best make / model to get. I don't need maps, just stats and HR. I know Garmins are popular, and I've read good things about Bryton. Anyone have any advice for me? I mean for Santa?

SQUEEKY sid xx

hi
have sid xx front forks and they make a squeeky noise when compressing.sounds like the top legs are dry against the lower leg seals.the shock is new and didnt squeek for the first 2 rides then slowly starts once the suspension works for a short period or as they get warm.

was thinking of lubing the top legs with a silicon spray but thought get some views first.

Storing my bike by hanging from a hook - is it OK?

Folks,

I'm looking for some advice on bike storage. I've moved into a new house, with a good sized shed. The shed has roof beams exposed, so I've suspended my dualie by a hook attached to one of the beams. The hook loops under the rear wheel - ie the rear wheel takes all the weight (roughly 13kg)

Let me know if I'm a genius, or am committing a mortal sin...

Thanks.

Giant vs BMC?

Guys, I’d like to pose a quick question to the many knowledgeable riders who visit this forum, about choosing a first hardtail…

I’m keen to get back into mountain biking and am looking to pick up a bike within a couple of weeks. I spent my childhood ripping up the dirt in the acres of harsh bushland behind my house, but my last 7 years have been spent on the road (2004 Orbea Gavia) so I've got a bit to re-learn.

How the bike industry works

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Reposting from my nobmob blog as I think this deserves to get a wider airing.

This is an interesting Wordpress article series I came across yesterday surfing from site bicycles.net.au. From what I read here it looks to me like the current phase of structural adjustment in the bicycle market with the rise and rise of on-line selling seems to me to be in large part due to the bicycle manufacturing industry's own poor inventory management practices. It also confirms what many of us suspected about the supply chain.

Read on to see what I mean:

Layback seat posts

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I have a hard tail Giant XTC1 2010 medium, being 5 11" and 80Kgs I am at its hight max

I'm more than comfortable on the bike but ride with the seat adjusted as far back on the original post as it will go. often if i come down hard on the seat it will tilt back, which is not helpfull .

Question would a new seat post like a layback seat post help ? I.E Thomson Elite 16mm set back or simmilar.
Yes i could go a slightly larger frame however i'd like to give this bike another year yet befor upgrading
