Appin and Kessel run status?

Has anyone been around Appin or been down the Kessel run today?

I'm wanting to go down there tomorrow if it's dry enough.

Cheers

A: Anyone got any experiences with them?
B: Anyone used a similar product but different brand?

Any feedback very much welcomed
Cheers

Riding in the Hunter Valley

Going up the Hunter for a few days tomorrow and will probably take road and Mtb's.
Apart from the obvious Trails at Singleton, does anyone know of any nice loops to do around the area? Hoping for a nice road ride on not too busy roads if there is such a thing?
Thanks,
Gazza

DH Newbie

Hey guys

Been riding xc for a couple of years now and just recently my mates encouraged me to go out and get a DH bike, so the purchase was made ('Goose Boot'r Foreman) plus all the riding the kit and now the guys who i was supposed are ride with are all out with injuries! So i was wondering if anyone has some time over the Christmas break to show round some local DH trails and maybe give a little bit of tuition so i can try and avoid ending up like my mates! (sorry squid)

Cheers, Nick

29er handlebars

Hi Everyone I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and that stockings were bulging?

I'm in the process of building a 29er and wanted to ask people's opinions on having wide bars as opposed to conventional widths...I've got a set of 72 cm wide protharsis carbon bars, my current 26er has a width of 68cm.

How many people have bar-ends and would it be an option to add bar-ends onto the carbon bars to "take up some space"?

thanks

Rubbish left at the end of Long Trail

This is what I found when I got to the end of Long today. Shame on those who do this sort of thing and take no responsibility.

Xmas Rant

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Rode LNCP to afternoon to burn off some Xmas cheer. The track is in the worst condition I have seen it in 7 years of riding there. I live in Marsfield across the road, I ride/train there at least once a week. JP probably the only one who has ridden here more.

Couple of vids from Loftus today

Here's a couple of videos I shot this morning at the Royal National Park.

Some nice footage of some of the better single track sections. Watch for the roo running across the track in the second clip.

Merry Xmas, eh? - someone stole our bikes

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi All,
We've gone to our garage to head out for final Xmas shopping today and our his and her GT Avalanche 3.0 disc braked (entry level - but whole loads of fun for us) are gone. They've been in a garage in Crows Nest behind our car in an under building car park.

The bikes are a SM Orange/black/grey GT Avalanche 3.0, and a red/white GT Avalanche 3.0 with Shimano SPD pedals.

Is this currently the brightest bike light - 2600 Lumens!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Does anyone know if there is a claim for a brighter light than this on the market today? (Darkness Dominator - http://www.troutie.com/Products/Detail/Darkness-... )

I own a Trout Light 7 UP light (now discontinued) - 1,700 Lumens and that is bright but 2,600 Lumens. That's very bright! Is there a limit to how much light one needs when riding...mmmmm? What is the ideal trade-off between light output, battery endurance and weight/size? Any thoughts? Comment? Opinions?

Specification for this beast:

Leds Cree XML U2
Output boost 2600 lumens measured
Output High 1000 lumens

RockShox Reverb Stealth.... or equivalent

Just bought a 2012 Treck Remedy 9. It says that the RockShox Reverb Stealth seat post will fit..... Trouble is cant seem to get one anywhere! Anyone know where i can get one or another similar post? That is, one with the cable (or Hydraulic) release at the base of the post so that the cabling runs internal to the frame.

Blur XC carbon vs Spark RC

Hi guys,
Looking at a new frame sometime in the new year. Have ridden a 2011 spark, never tried the Santa though.
There's not much in it regarding cost. The Scott is a tiny bit lighter but then the Santa is a lot cooler Smiling
Anyone ridden both?
Cheers
Stefan

Yellow lenses

I currently use a pair of Tifosi yellow tinted lenses when riding. A couple of times lately in this crap weather, I've taken them off when on the dirt (mud) so I could see better. Each time, it suddenly feels like I'm considerably closer to the ground, my forks are shorter and I'm at risk of going over the bars. Yet putting the glasses on initially (or like now) doesn't suddenly make everything seem further away.

Is it just the water on the lenses making things seem further away before I take the glasses off, or is there some other phenomena at work here?

Lights - Suggestions

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

What's a good light kit suitable for riding in the bush at night for around $300 - are there any? Just can't justify the $500 or so for a new set of ayup's but really want to do some night riding - damn Perth & their no daylight savings rubbish.

Any help will be appreciated - see my note in the wanted classifieds if you've got any

Cheers,
Phil

KOM gone or moved?

Haven't had a chance to stop and read the note on the window, but noticed that KOM's Neutral Bay shopfront has been looking dark and vacant this week. What's happened? Anybody know?

Tire sizing for 559x19 wheel-set.

Hello everyone,

I have a question in mind, I wanted to change the tire of my wheel set(559x19) from 26x2.1 to 26x2.35.
Will a tire size 26x2.35 fit with a wheel-set(559x19)?

thanks and hope someone help me.

Did you lose a seat bag on Long Trail, Terrey Hills

Looks like someone lost one of those small clip on under seat bags on Long Trail. If you want to claim it, it is at the far North end of Long trail near the lookout, sitting on top of the big boulder marking the end loop .

Thoughts & advice on first ever bike build

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi there,

Currently on an anthem but decided I wanted a bike with more travel for a bit more 'fun'. I've decided to go about building it myself for a couple of reasons. I'm a poor bike mechanic and this should be a good practical lesson and I also don't have the money upfront to drop it on a bike in the lbs.

Any takers for Saturday AM rides (Cascades, along single track on Mona Vale, through Garigal, back into cascades = ~28Kms)

Any MTB riding groups doing ~25-30Km @ 2Hr-2.5hr XC with some sections of technical riding around the Davidson/Belrose/Oxford Falls areas ?
I'm keen to join a keen group for Saturday morning rides ?

Any takers ?

The most scenically stunning ride I've done (or walk...having previously been a bushwalker and now been converted to MTBs). This is an undulating, sometimes nicely rocky and bumpy ride, but not for the adventure seekers. However it's a great long ride (20 kms) for relative newbies and has good ups and downs. The joy of this one is in the bush, the wildlife and the history.
