Mt Buller extra long weekend away Feb 29 to Mar 4

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Greetings all,

I have recently been emailing some friends looking at heading down to Mt Buller, leaving Wednesday arvo Feb 29th and arriving home Sunday evening Mar 4th. The drive each way is about 9 hours. I thought I would at least make the offer to anyone that wants to go too. All comers are welcome. Smiling

Urgent - anyone with a 31.6mm post in North Sydney/Lower Mountains

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Heya all,
A strange request, I know. But does anyone in Sydney's lower north shore have a 31.6mm post I can borrow, 350mm or longer?

Picked up a demo bike (Remedy 9) today for the weekend, but the bloody seat post is only 225mm long! Just a bit sorry for actual trail riding, as I don't feel like standing the while ride

Meant to be heading to the Mundee tomorrow at 8:30, and the shop doesn't open until 9!

Definitely a 6 pack involved if anyone is able!

Kirrawak weekender

After the hype of the trails around the area and the fun had by the guys who went last time, I think it's time we make another trip up north.

I have no idea about accommodation there or my way round the trails do hopefully someone who went on the last trip would be able to help out.

I recon we should be able to find a date around the end of Feb/beginning of March to suit most people.

Let me know your thoughts and availability.

Any good rides around Camden Head?

Hi, I'll be spending the AustraliaANZAC day long weekend around Camden Head. Should I be taking my MTB along? Can anybody point me to some information on good XC tracks, more on the long side but not too technical?

Cheers,
Volker

So how much could Mountain Biking be worth to Australia?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Just caught this about my home town . . . .

Thought I would share

And wonder . . . . . how much could the sport be worth here?

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/advertising/news/artic...

The economic value of mountainbiking in Rotorua's Whakarewarewa Forest has been estimated at five times its annual timber revenue and looks set to increase as promotions raise awareness of what is on offer.

State of Awaba, Ourimbah, Glenrock

can anyone give a recent status report on the state of the trails at Awaba, Ourimbah and Glenrock? I see they are all still green but just wanting to check given the rain of the last week. I have some mates that are heading over today from WA, they have a massive MTB trip planned which includes these trails.
thanks

Garmin compatibility

Looks like my Garmin Forerunner 305 has bitten the dust, started flicking between screens on last nights ride, couldn't do anything with it. Somehow managed to turn it off but now it won't turn on.

I've read some forums that suggest it's probably the internal contacts that have corroded, I could take it apart to find out or I could just buy a 500.

Stupid question time or maybe not, will the cadence and HRM from the forerunner work with the 500?

Cheers

New Zealand

I have a week off in April. I want to go to New Zealand to have a look at their legendary trails.
So for the lucky ones that have been there:

Rotorua or Queenstown?
Take my own bike (Stumpy) or hire one there?
What is the weather like in April?

Cheers,

Cyril

Confused on Shimano Parts

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi,

I'm looking at putting a 10 speed Shimano XT groupset on a Pivot Mach 5 I'm building up. From what I gather off the Shimano website there are 2 XT groupsets.

1. XT Deore with a product id of M770 which is 9 speed
2. XT Dyna-Sys with product id of M780 which is 10 speed.

MTB Lake Annecy (France)

Heading over to France later this year with some friends and will have a week in Lake Annecy at the foot of the French Alps.

Has anyone done any mtb riding there that they can recommend?

Need bike hire and would prefer downwards XC - catch a chairlift up and wind generally downwards, without wanting to do the whole full face helmet / pyjama suit / big air thing.

Scotty T has come through with another sick vid highlighting not only all the hard work Skinny Duke and Mal put into the local DH scene but also what sik riders they are!

And Aussie Businesses wonder why we shop online?

Here is a quality example of why LBS dont get my money for ordering of parts at times.

The dust cap my RP23 has seized solid on to the Valve stem and no amount of spraying with WD40 and soaking it has managed to get the bloody thing removed. So I went up to my LBS and asked them to investigate how much a replacement valve stem would be, thinking easy part, should be no more than $20. Wrong, the distributor wants $60 for the replacement stem.

Here's an interesting interview by an internet pal of mine based in Melbourne. I like that the subject of the interview has more going on between the ears than most pro athletes

Guys, be warned, no punches are pulled on some of the issues faced by female endurance athletes ...

2 x 10 Set Up

I am currently running a 2 x 10 set up on my 29er (38/24 Chain Rings and 11/36 cassette) and was wondering what other riders in the 2 x 10 29er crew are using? The reason I ask is that while I like the lower chain ring/cassette ratios, I can hardly tell the difference between the 29er and my old 26er granny gears, I often find myself spinning out of control when I drop down from the large to the small chain ring, it seems the difference between the two is too great. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Forgot to add to my hot lap blurb...
On my return to the Terrey hills car park whilst riding back up McCarrs, some tool in a new Black HSV Maloo Ute decides to try and clip me with his mirror and at the same time rev the buggery out of his normally sweet sounding engine - i say normally because, it doesnt sound too nice right next to your ear.

My New Crisp CX Bike

Hi,
Here are the pictures of my new CX bike, handmade in Rockingham by Allan Crisp. I am just waiting for the stickers to be printed and the headtube badge to be cut, and then it will be done, but I am very happy!

Frame was delivered to me in raw steel, and I painted it myself. I got very good results using aerosol modelling paint over a good high quality primer. The colours are 'Lime pearl' and Gunmetal. Stickers are going to be in White to match the saddle and bar tape.

The main components are:

Frame: Crisp Custom geometry, Columbus Zona Tubing, Tig Welded.

I was hoping to be able to pick your brain and ask for some insight.... well i've been accepted into the Gibb River Challenge (http://www.thegibbchallenge.com.au/)... and as you may fathom I'm not exactly bike savvy and am on task of finding a suitable mountain bike for the challenge. That wont necessarily break the bank... ie kinda looking around the $1000 and obviously aiming for the best value for money at the best price...
I have no idea about specs and jazz and was wondering your thoughts on the following:

Nutrition - during and after

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I want to find out what people are consuming during and after a long(ish) ride 3hrs +.

If I'm road riding I typically consume a couple of gels and a couple of banana's along with a bottle of water and a bottle of gatorade. On the MTB events I have usually survived with just a couple of litres of water and gels. I'm doing a 100km this year so that won't get me through and need to rethink this.

Shimano MT65 Tubeless wheels - any experiences?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

2012 resolution - go tubeless.

anyone had any luck with these wheels? Whats the deal with centrelock/6-bolt wheels, if I run centrelock discs on a bike that was running 6-bolts, do the calipers need much alignment?

cheers
