Chainring shifting issues - best option?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was having some shifting problems a while back going from middle to inner chain ring (the shift would be very slow or would have to be accompanied by a shift on the cassette to make the chain jump down). The LBS filed the teeth on the chainrings a little and this improved a lot. However, the problem has started to return. If I am in the middle ring and shift to the lower ring it will just rub on the deraileur cage until I shift up and down the cassette and then it will shift down the chainring.

Brake pads

Hi there,
Just want to know if anyone here has tried http://www.discobrakes.com break pads.
The price looks pretty good and they have freee shipping (I don't know if is just a special now).
In another note, can someone explain to me what are diffferences (besides price) between semi-metallic, ceramic, sintered, Kevlar, etc.. pads??

Morning All.
Had a rotten commuter ride this morning on the run to work through North Sydney and Milsons to the bridge. To the chap in the green shirt that went down near Lavender Miller Sts intersection, I hope your grazing is OK. But then...

Tech help

I have been using Garmin connect for over a year and during the last 2 months I have noticed that the search button is missing from the explore page, normally the search button is next to the “keywords” and “start near” boxes.

Has anyone else had this issue and if so do you know how to fix?

I have contacted Garmin twice and no reply.

Flood damage to bikes

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

On Sunday I had the misfortune of a flooded garage. This was basically caused by all the heavy rain late at night. If you are interested, here is a video of the flooding:

http://youtu.be/K9InRk-oz-w?hd=1

Im trying to get the insurance claim done. Does anyone know anything about water damage to bicycles? The bikes were completely submerged in muddy water overnight, I pulled them out in the morning. (Giant Roam ladies, Commencal Meta 5.2 and a custom built hybrid/racer)

MTB hire in Forrest

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Has anyone hired a bike in Forrest, Vic before?

I have only got a little bit of time to go riding whilst I am over there so I don't want to take a bike over for a full trip. There is one mob that pops up online but I am curious who people have sed in the past.

Thanks

Proposed Mountain bike track in Centenial Park Sydney.

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I am a Mountain Bike enthusiast living in the heart of Sydney. So like many in my position it takes at least an hour to get to a good cross country track. Then on the weekend i was riding my roadie in Centenial Park, and i noticed the amount of unused grass around the perimeter of the park and had an epiphany. Why not build a single track around the edge of the park, seperated by a fence to protect both the cyclist and the pedestrians. So here i am trolling all Sydneys bicycling web sites lookingfor support.

Tyre Choice & Rotorua

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey all,

With health issues keeping me off the bike most of summer I'm just getting back on the steed and swapped out my Front tyre to a Kenda Nevegal, thinking that it would offer some good mud clearing attributes, though the thing is, since putting it on I have slid the front tyre out pretty much every ride. Now I'm a rider that stacks often but am thinking this is getting too much and never usually stack by sliding the front tyre out.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find riders who went up to the Blue Mountains today and where waiting at Glenbrook station at 6:50am. There was a lot of you there, perhaps even 50 of us?

Manly hotlap

Does anyone think that the wet conditions slow you down at all? I'm grasping at straws here but went for a spin this morning and seeing I didn't have a lot of time thought I'd do a hot-lap. Managed to post a time over 4 mins slower than my best - I think it's age and fitness but it felt faster and I was wondering whether conditions have a significant impact or not.

Hi,

All was set for a ride to Manly dam only to discover my bike has been stolen from my garage. After 6 months off the bike due to injury it was only my second off road ride in many months.

My bike is a Specialized Stumpjumper Expert 2008 Test Bike. It has distinctive light blue test bike colour. The bike has a sticker saying test bike.

Wingello solo

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've only ever ridden Wingello for The Fling but am heading down to Kangaroo Valley for the weekend and the bike is coming. Is Wingello somewhere that you'd consider ok to ride solo? Getting around seems pretty easy and I have the supplies but want to make sure that it is not a silly idea. Is anyone thinking of heading to Wingello tomorrow at all?

Fork Maintenance

Hi, what happens if you never maintain your front fork?

I have a 2006 Fox and all I have ever done is clean the metal surfaces of the upper stems after every (well, most) rides. To me it works still great. Should I be expecting any trouble out of this?

Cheers,
Volker

MTB skills trip to Canada

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Every couple of years my coach organises a trip to Canada for XC riders who want to improve their technical skills. The idea is to ride DH bikes (can hire or buy over there) for a few weeks, travelling around to the main mtb/ski parks in Canada - Whistler, Sun Peaks, Panorama, Kicking Horse and Silver Star. This year there will also be some XC/AM riding thrown in to break up the DH riding. The trip will be from July 26th - 17th August, and we need another 4 people. So if you are keen, send me a message.
Cheers.

Australian Standards on helmets

I hope somebody can advise me on this.

I use a Met Kaos helmet bought from Wiggle for mountain bike riding (excellent helmet btw). Anyway, although the helmet is sold in Australia and complies to australian standards my helmet doesn't have the sticker, as it was bought in the UK. Does anybody know how/if I can get an australian standards approved sticker being it's the same helmet sold in our shops?

cheers
