The Mont 24hr - Looking for a team

Hi,

My brother and I are looking to join a team for the Mont this year, we are 27 and 30 years old. Pretty keen riders, last year our lap times were around the 55-60min mark (hoping to go faster this year!). So if you need a couple of keen guys who are really good team members to join your team, let us know. We will pay for the entries! Shoot me an email at [email protected]

Cheers

Dom

Yep he is gone for 2 years and stripped of '10 TDF title. Just a matter of time till they get caught I guess.

Are 26" XC racers redundant?

Having spent the last few rides on my new big wheeler Hard tail I am now seriously questioning whether there is any future for high spec 26" hard tail racers.
I may take this even further and ask whether the 26" xc duallie race bike's days are also numbered.
On the big wheels a slight loss of immediate acceleration is the only noticeable downside to the big wheel format that I have noticed, the new bike is smoother & faster plus cost 30% less than my 1kg lighter 26" racer.

NATIONALS come to AWABA

Are you free on the weekend of 2-4th March 2012?
Would you be able to spare a few hours, a day or even few to volunteer at the MTBA National race at Awaba?

Why I hear you ask… =/

You can witness 3 World Cup Champions in action in the downhill & cross country has its rising stars to entertain you, whilst you manage the track & spectators. Don’t worry… You will be fed, watered & moved on an hourly basis so you won’t be bored!

Bushings

Hi Chaps,
My partners Norco Fluid ES needs some new pivot bushings in the top of the rear shock. I gather there is a shop on the north shore somewhere that specialises in Norco who may be able to help me.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Wheels and Rotors

So am looking at running a second set of wheels as I like to run fat tyres for the summer grip/downhill fun and skinner faster tubeless tyres for XC racing/events. I have seen the Shimano XT Wheelset (M785) for around $400 which is about the max I want to pay and was wondering if anyone rides these or has tried them? I’m looking for a tubeless ready pair, that are light’ish but still strong… I current ride basic Deore hubs with Alex XC-44 hubs.

Some new Helmetcam footage

Just got back from a ski trip, and had a chance to get some GoPro footage of something other than riding the bike.

I also experimented with helmet mount v chest.

Helmet Mounted:

Chest Mounted:

Just like on the bike, I think the chest mount footage is more dynamic, and is closer to a "you are there" perspective.

Sale Price

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi All,

I know this probably belongs in the classified section, but its technically not for sale, yet. Just wondering what i should put as an asking price for the following:

2009 GT Avalanche 2.0
1800klm (off road mainly)
Deore Running gear
Rock Shox Sector Coil U-Turn front shock 100 - 140mm adjustable
WTB Wolverine 2.2 Foldable tyres - 3/4 tread left
Tektro Hydraulic brakes

Feels like its new to ride, meticulously looked after. Not sure what a "good" price is to put on her. Spent close to $1000 on her over the past years in various parts & upgrades. Cost was $999 new.

Shit Mountainbike Girls Say

In follow up to NSMB's Shit Mountain Bikers say (http://www.nsmb.com/4942-vid-shit-mountain-biker...) some girls in Germany put together a female version of the spoof. It's subtitled in English, but you'll get the point.

Note: At least they do have female MTB'ers in Germany.... Smiling

Solution for rainy Sydney - [Drought in Queenstown, NZ)

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Did you know that NZ's South island currently has a drought? Perfect timing to get that $ 360 return ticket direct to Queenstown...the new MTB capital of the world! (Yes, it's even better than Rotorua).

We just got back from a 2 week camping and MTB'ing holiday in sunny New Zealand to arrive in rainy, muddy Sydney...

Here are some recent videos that were filmed in the same Queenstown location -

MTB shoes

First time poster!

I have just upgraded bikes, so now I feel I should stop running the old joggers as well. What is everyone's opinions on some decent shoes for mtb? Are the old etnies/dc's skate/bmx type sufficient or are there special shoes that I should look at?

Cheers

Hors Category Climb

I wasnt going to post this as a hot lap as it probably wont be that contested well given the distance from Sydney, but if you're looking for an Hors Catégorie climb or happen to be in the area, then this is the closest I've found to Sydney. At 800m vertical climb it falls under Strava's HC class.

http://app.strava.com/segments/934241

It's a dirt road with some corrugations and cattle grates located at barrington tops. I did it on a mountain bike (albeit 20 years old), but it could really be done on a roadie running 25c tyres.

Have fun!

Clean-up Australia Day 4th March - Oxford Falls

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Guys,

We love our tracks and work hard to keep them great.

On the March the 4th, help us doing a little garbage cleaning on the Oxy downhill tracks and the road (Morgan Rd) back up.

If you can make it on Sunday the 4th it would be great, but if not, perhaps you can help by taking a little of the litter home with you when you ride the area.

See more details at:

(sign-up at) http://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/Oxford+Fal...

Meet: Carpark on Morgan Rd, at turn off to model airfield

Bicycle Lifespan

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've been inspired by another Nobmobber on the subject of selling a bike second hand. That thread was about the depreciation of bikes and in particular a very high depreciation of certain bike types.
What I'd like to know is this; When one buys a bike, how long is it kept before moving on to a new one? That is, a direct replacement for that particular bike.
Many folk will have a fleet. Many will ride to work on a road optimised commuter which just keeps on truckin' however will replace their off road fun machine/s often.

Chain Lube

The question has probably been discussed before but what are peoples preference to chain lube.
Wet?
Dry?
I currently use a dry lube, smax wax which seems to work ok until the chain gets wet. I find that I'm cleaning and re applying lube after every ride. Every few rides I give the entire drive train a clean.

On the road bike I used a wet lube, whilst this attracks grit and grime it seems to leave the chain running smoothly.

Gearing

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

It’s about time for a bit of TLC on my bike and my rear cassette and chain rings need replacing… I am thinking of upgrading from a non descript shimano FC-M552, which has 42x32x24 to the SLX triple with 44x32x22. As such with the smaller inner chain-ring on the SLX would it be wise to move from a 11-36 Cassette (which I have now) to a 11-34?

I’ve so far never felt that I’ve ran out of gears on the hills, but I am unsure if a two “teeth” smaller on the front will make a lot of difference…

Bike stolen - Not a good day

Hi,

So my bike got stolen from my garage over the weekend. Serial# WTU334605HID. I know it is an extreme long shot but if anyone comes across someone trying to huck a Gary Fisher Hi-Fi dually which is black with a white saddle and writing I'd be happy to be informed. It just pains me that these people get away with these crimes so easily.

Cheers.

CBD based sports massage therapist?

Hi - does anyone have a recommendation for a sports massage therapist based in the CBD? Ideally someone I could visit during the day, or immediately pre / post work?
Not really keen on travelling outside of the CBD for this, although I am sure there are excellent people dotted around all of NSW...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...
