MTB - Clinic

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi members, I am new to the sport and thought i would share my experience with other members new and old wanting to get a bit more out of their weekend warrior approach.

Sure we can all jump on a bike and get from A to B but learning how to do it properly and at speed is what i was after.

As I said on other forums it is difficult for a newbie to follow mates who have been riding for a few years and learn from them without seeming a fool.

I pumped around the internet and found a clinic held my AMBC.

I thought I was a bit passed beginner so I took up the Trailbreakers course.

Gun Dog dirty-du

I was just sent a link to this event by a friend in the area.

It looks like a lot of fun for those strange people who can run as well as cycle. As far as I'm concerned I have a better chance of breathing underwater than running 21 km...... but someone out there might be interested?

2 bikes stolen, 1 bike bought.... now how do i get to work?

Hi all
Had 2 bike stolen just before xmas. 1 mtb and 1 comuter. Managed to put together enough resources to buy a new mtb.
Just wondering if anyone out there may have an old roadie or comuter going cheap? im about 175cm tall not sure what size that equates to! Need this to get to work and back on a daily basis. Budget is low... dont mind having to do a bit of cheap repairs.

Off Bike Training tips. (especially in wet weather)

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Personally, I am extremely 'time crunched'.

I love the idea of following 'The Time Crunched Cyclist' as mentioned by others, but I have trouble finding 3-4 hrs a week as it is. Having a very young family doesn't help. So, I've been following http://www.youtube.com/mtbstrengthcoach & doing about 2 x 20min sessions a week in the garage when my kids are asleep. I also swim twice a week at work for another 20 min.

Otherwise, I just try to ride as much as I can. All this wet weather doesn't help - but garage workouts are better than nothing.

Sore shoulders while riding

Just went out and bought a Trek Remedy 9 and with all this weather i haven’t been out as much..... So i m not sure if my shoulders and neck are getting sore from not enough riding or poor bike setup??? Anyone have any idea what this may be and how to fix it? The LBS di a quick fit but not sure he really knew what he was doing.

Had the bike a couple of weeks now, should I go back to the LBS???

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What to do...

Well, after all this rain, I thought I'd give this new-fangled road riding thing a go. After two days, I can't say I'm too taken with it.

So, until the tracks dry up, I'm looking at starting cooking as a new pastime. Anybody got any decent recipes they'd like to share?

Oxford Falls - Morgan Road Tracks

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi

I've been browsing the site and forums over the last few years and enjoy what a great local resource it can be!

I live in Narrabeen and walk around the bush in Oxford Falls frequently. No agenda, just nature photography etc. Obviously I notice a mixture of MTB and power bikes.
I've seen discussions/maps on the site regarding tracks that are not to be ridden ie Moon Rock/Little Moab/Chicken Run/Lookout. I haven't noticed signs on these tracks for a while and wondered if anyone knew what's up?

When it stops raining, i can get this thing out...

Well after 4 months of waiting... The new ride has arrived, only to be pulled apart and made to look - well - different.
When it comes to racing, the tyres will be swapped over to proper tyres... The red bling can stay...

Just found this posted on the LAC Facebook page.

"When the Police helicopter had finished at Katoomba, it answered a call for assistance of stranded mountain bike riders in the vicinity of Glenbrook Gorge - the riders and bikes were located, and collected by the helicopter and safely dropped off at Glenbrook oval. As of PM 10/2, Glenbrook weir is still closed.

Chain Guides: Fit For Purpose?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I converted to a single chain ring a while back and then during an XC race found I needed a chain guide to keep the chain on at speed over the bumpy stuff.

Due to the fancy suspension system I contacted my bike’s manufacturer who said the only chain guides that work successfully are certain models by MRP and e.thirteen. I bought an MRP because it was lighter.

Rear Derailleur Adjustment

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Should be a well drained topic, still I have a niggling issue I can't seem to overcome:

I can adjust the rear derailleur either for high gear or low gear!

The gear:
Shimano XT 9 sp rapid rise from 2006

The problem:
After careful adjustment following all the how-to's and manuals I can either ride for
- "low gears", which means low gears work all great but he chain will come off very sluggishly from the 2-3 smallest cogs when shifting down. With the rapid rise this means this is the direction in which the derailleur springs push.

new to blue mountians new help

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi
Can anyone give some advise on a day trip down the blue mountians.
What I would like to do is get a train up the blue mountians with a couple of friends and spend the day biking.
The plan was to drive to a hotel at the base of the blue mountians or somewher along the way, put the bikes on at train with us and start some where up the mountians. We then want to stay in a hotel where we started from for the night and have dinner and a few drinks. Any advise would be greatly appriciated.
Cheers,
Kevin
