Hello from Freshwater

Hi everyone!
I'm Gaz from the UK. Been living in Sydney just over a year now. Did the Manly Dam track a few weeks ago and loved it. One of the best tracks I have ever done I loved all the different variations on it.

If anyone local fancies a ride i'd be up for it as I don't know that many people over here and I haven't a clue where any other decent tracks are.

Cheers
Catch ya later

Mountain Bike Park Feasibility Survey

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The purpose of this survey is to determine the sustainability of a not-for-profit, fully facilitated Mountain Bike Park operated in southern NSW.
The initial plan for the mountain bike park would consist of single track and cross country loops to maintained downhill runs and free ride terrain. Flowing machine made and technical runs, accommodating from beginner to expert abilities. An all day shuttle/lift service will be provided for riders back to the top of runs for continuous gravity fed riding.
The park would allow for weekend camp stay and provide shower and toilet amenities.

Hi guys, would anyone have a pair of rear panniers they would be willing to lend for a weekend? I'm planning an overnight ride soon. I have the rack, so just need the bags.

kiwarrak

Just spent a couple of days rideing kiwarrak & had a ball ,nice & smooth with not many climbs ,the downhill run with jumps a dropoff & the big berm were probly the highlight ,the bridges & seasaw over the creek were cool too .I was wondering how the trails handle with the multy direction single trail & if there have been many collisions ,also what has happened to the trail signage ? arrows & crosses constantly contradict each other & quiet a few arrows seem t b missing which made it real easy t get lost .Dispite this we had a great time & would like to thank the trail builders for their work.

Looks like we are going to have a relatively dry week. Will this be enough for Perimeter and Long Track to be rideable on the weekend?

So there was this thread started by someone who wanted to buy Ortleib panniers, and they couldn't buy them from the usual UK suspects anymore cos the Oz distributor has got to them, and stopped them shipping to Oz. So I suggested some German online retailers instead... then all of a sudden... poof - the thread disappears completely!

Nice ride pity about OTB

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Its so wet, so decided to take to the road on the Giant. Did a loop down to Manly, Cabbage Bay, Curl Curl up Warringah rd, back to Forest. Really nice day to just coast along the beaches, but coming back up Warringah Rd is a bit tough.

Decided to cross Warringah Rd and bunny hop the gutter. These gutters are about twice your normal size. Got front over, but misjudged the rear and stopped dead and did a cartwheel over bars onto grass besides foot path. all in view of six lanes of traffic at set of lights.

The mont

Hi guys . Just wondering if you can light camp fires at the mont? This is my first one and thought it may be a good idea to take a bit of the chill out of the night. Or roast some marshmallows. Cheers.

Jubilee Park Track Conditions

Hi Everyone,

I am planning a skills session with 30 scout boys tomorrow at the Golden Jubilee Park.
I do not know the current conditions of the park following the recent downpours and I am reluctant to let such numbers on the track if current conditions are close to subsidence!

I would appreciate it if anyone has been up there that can report on the track or can advise me on this subject.

Thanks!

Best value 29er tyre? (for front)

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hello there fellow mountaineers

Firstly, this is my virgin post! Yay!

Secondly, but more importantly... I am looking for a new front tyre for my giant talon 29er

What are the good options out there, mainly looking for opinions from 29er experience (from perth riders) due to the different contact patch but any advice would certainly be great.

I want to keep (for now) the kenda small block 8 at the rear for cost and experimentation purposes.

Communting\Training lights

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I stepped over to the dark side recently and purchased my first roadie with the intention of getting some mid week training in to make those mtn bike days all the more enjoyable.

On my first evening out I almost got wiped out by a car. I was coming into a poorly light roundabout and the guy obviously didnt look and just pulled out in front of me. I roared, he braked and his bumper stopped inches from my back wheel. I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt and say I wasn't lit up enough. I had a pretty standard job on the front along with one of those LED flashers.

Brakes - Rotors

Hey all, looking for some advice.

I think its time to replace the rotors, (worn and warped), I would like to know what tool to use to unlock the DT Swiss lock ring on the rear wheel. Ive tried my cassette lock tool but its slightly too big. The ring has 12 teeth.

Secondly, can I replace the rotors with any rotor (as long as its the same size) and therein lies an additional question whats a good inexpensive rotor for XC use?

Note, currently have Avid 160mm G3CS's onboard.

Thanks

Manly Dam

Anyone been round the dam recently? - thinking about an afternoon paddle. 2.4 tyres should be enough to hydroplane?

32 or 36 holes?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Im about to purchase parts to build a 29er front wheel but Im uncertain if I should be purchasing 32 or 36 hole components.

Shold be noted Im a big fella.

Im doing it cheap so Im looking at getting

Alex Adventurer Rim $27.94 AUD (Rim Brake compatible)
Shimano XT Disc Hub Front M756 $38.97 AUD

My LBS said they can do the spokes, nipples, Assembly and truing for $80

Where has my post gone?

About 2 weeks ago I posted up a comment after riding at Ourimbah for the first time. I said that Ourimbah had what Awaba and Glenrock sadly lack......that is technical riding, drops, jumps, berms and a downhill track mere mortals can ride. The kind of stuff that the new generation of all mountain riders are looking for. My question is where did this post go? It is gone. Is this simply a computer glitch, or have I been censored for saying that our Newcastle trails are not offering what many riders are looking for? I have looked in other areas of the forum but cant find it.
