RockShox Forks servicing
I have a set of Rock Shox Recon Race forks on my current bike that are not performing as they once did (remote lock-out no longer works, forks 'bottom out' on a regular basis). Is it cheaper to buy a new fork online (Wiggle etc), or service/repair existing forks? Sounds like a dumb question, but some cheap 2011 forks are available online! If a service is the sensible option, could someone recommend me a good bike shop up to the task? Cheers!

Stan's rim strips failing
I've been running the standard Stans kit to convert my non-ust rims & tyres to tubeless lately but I've had 2 of the rims strips fail in the last couple of months. Somehow the valve has come away from the rubber rim strip & it no longer holds air. The liquid doesn't seem to be able to seal it & I have to buy a whole new rim strip. When the first one failed I thought, ok just one of those things, but after the second one failed in exactly the same way it made me concerned. Has anybody else had this happen? Or am I doing something wrong?
Boxing Day MTB Ride - Mt Ovens \ Yetholme Forest
Boxing Day MTB ride, meeting at Winning Edge Cycles 2pm. Who's up for some awesome trails out at Mt Ovens \ Yetholme forest ? Anyone is welcome to come along but be warned it will not be a trundle through the sticks with cucumber sandwiches and a cup of tea my good chaps kinda ride. Bring your bike skills, some mountain goat legs and of course plenty of water\food if you need it.
On the plus side the ride ends with a big downhill section all the way back to the carpark.

New Guy - Hi - Sutherland Shire?
Hi All
Been looking around at some of the numerous MTB clubs/MTB sites on the internet and NoBMoB really appears to be a step above (no disrespect to other clubs/associations - just my high level view), especially in terms of inviting new members on board.
Thumbs up for RLC Sport
I'd like to convey the great experience I had getting Aiden Leffmann at RLC Sport to service the 2006 Lefty Speed 110mm fork from my Cannondale hardtail.
After inspection he shot me an email and said for just $50 above the $200 the service and solo air upgrade was going to cost, he could replace the entire internals with 2012 model year Pop-loc Solo Air PBR internals, I'd get better damping, the full travel (it had been limited to about 80mm even after a bearing reset), and I'd never blow another lockout again.
29er hardtail build. Fork, brake & tyre advice please
Hi All
I'm about to build myself a modest 29er hardtail using a new frame, fork and wheelset plus a heap of old cast offs.
If you are running big wheels at the moment I am interested in your views on the following:
1. With the bigger wheels & weighing 85kg would I be better off using 180 discs than 160s? (XT brakes)
2. I will be using an old 9 speed 42,32,24 - 12-34 gear set up. What would you recomend as a good 29er gear spread? I was considering a 2 x 10 set up.
3. Do the same tyre combinations work for 29"? If so I'll probably stick to Schwalbe or Maxxis.
Feedback appreciated.
Recent Giant test ride day
Did anyone go to the recent Giant 'Test Weekend' based around Ourimbah & Awaba?
I'm keen to hear about the new full carbon frame XTC 29er, and also the new XT or XTR drivetrain.
Anyone?
tips about Quary Rd trail - Hornsby
Hi all,
I rode this trail quite a few times and I do it the following way:
1) Entering at the end of Stewart Ave, Hornsby.
2) Going all the way down to the bridge and then up until I reach that picnic area.
And here's the question - is there anywhere to go from there? I always turn around at that point and return to Steward Ave..
I heard there's more and I tried once to continue on a trail that starts from the far right side of the picnic area, but it got me no where and I turned around at some point, not sure where this trail leads to.
Tathra MTB Enduro - This Sunday, April 22
Quick, quick, scramble, scramble, fingers poised - type.
YES Entries are now open for the April 21-22 2012 Tathra MTB Enduro. www.mountainbiking.com.au/tathraenduro
Our website probably won’t crash with the stampede of entrants. But it pays to get in early as we have limited numbers to 500 – to ensure the unique character of the event is maintained.
As our aim is PARTICIPATION before PROFIT – Entry prices have also not changed from last year!
WHAT’S THE TATHRA MTB ENDURO
Sweet, sweet single-track by the Sea!
If you’re tired of being marooned in bush try a cycling sea-change!

If anyone here is willing to take some big drops and would like to help me out in getting some awesome photos it would be great.
It would be a proper shoot with generators and lights etc so it is an opportunity that you wont get very often.
Last Mountain bike event for 2011
Hi there NobMob members
Just letting you know that the last mountain bike race for the year will be the Wicked Wombat 8hr Enduro, being held in Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains on New Years Eve.
This event is being held on a newly constructed private trail network that is not normally open to the public. The 19+km trail network contains a pump track, skills park, jumps line, pocket park and flow trail. It's located on a 300 acre property and is part of an outdoor education centre that has modern accommodation and dining facilities.
Thanks Rob
with all the recent rain I've had the need to use the Weather and Trail Status features more than I would like to. So just wanted to say thanks to you and those that update them as they are very useful resources to use when deciding whether or not to hit the trails. We headed to Wingello on Sunday with a rather large group, I used the Weather section for historical rainfall and the weatherchannel for current situation. It rained for the first 5-10min of the ride but then the sun came out and we had an awesome ride. Trails were in perfect condition.
Keep up the good work.
Wannaride?
The Wannaride website no longer exists.
Does anyone know what has happened to www.wannaride.com.au and Chris who used to run/organise skills clinics?

Terrey Hills Database Update
Hi everyone! Last week I enquired with NPWS if it was okay to ride a small trail that loops off/onto Perimeter. This trail is signposted with horses permitted on it. I have received the following response from the Rangers office. They confirm this track allows both horse riders and MTB riders. I have updated the Terrey Hills page http://nobmob.com/rides/terreyhills
I believe the track you are referring to is the Wilkins Loop North Track that is signposted with horses permitted on it. This track allows both horse riders and MTB riders.

Thredbo?
Thinking of a visit to Thredbo this summer. I know they have a downhill course but I'm more of a XC rider. Are there any XC tracks as well in the area? (I like riding uphill as well as down)
Is the downhill track OK for a normal 5inch duallie bike or do I need to rent proper a proper DH rig to do it?
Petition AGAINST proposed MTB tracks in Garigal NP
Just as a FYI, about an hour ago I popped in to the Forestville shops on my way further a field.
There was a lady there with a petition against the proposed MTB tracks in Garigal NP.
I didn't have much time as I had my mum waiting in the car but I stopped quickly and had a quick chat.
Her main concerns were destroying pristine native bush which had been this way for thousands of years and the fact once mountain bikes were allowed in, motorbikes would come in and create noise and be a fire hazard not to mention damage the tracks.
Trails shown on Google maps, how to get changed.
Is it possible to update the trail maps shown on Google maps & Google earth on NobMob?
Yesterday went for a ride at Terrey hills, & found that the trail marked to the South of the intersection of Cullamine Rd & Booralie Rd has no legal entry or exits.
145 & 147 Booralie Rd have placed private property signs at the Booralie Rd entrance, plus private property signs & gates exist at all the exits further South. The trail terminates at a 3m high electrified fence surrounding Waratah Park.
As it is no longer accessible, is it possible to remove the trail on Google maps & Google earth?
