Our calendar entry:
Total MTB maintenance
Over the Christmas / New Year period I have 3 weeks off and want to do a total overhaul of my bike.
I've been riding for 18 months now and although I've been good with maintenance I haven't been great. I've also riden in mud / rain / etc so the bikes taking a bit of a beating. My bike is a 2010 Giant Trance X2 - totally stock. I'm not really into upgrades so happy to replace like-for-like.
At the very least I want to
replace the drive train; chain, rear cogs, maybe fronts also
Replace cables;
overhaul front forks
bleed brakes
degrease / re-grease anything that needs it.
My New Ride
It may not be a municycle, but its nice non the less.
Ourimbah trail condition?
Anyone ridden Ourimbah in the last couple of days since last trail update 11/10/2011? Intend to ride tomorrow (Sat 29) but won't bother if the trails are too wet.
Thanks!
Penrith Press article- Cycling in National parks, specifically Yellomundee Regional Park
http://penrith-press.whereilive.com.au/news/stor...
An interesting article. Is this just in reference to the general NPWS mountain biking policy that has been going on for the last year, or has something new popped up? I thought you could ride the trails at Yellomundee whenever you wanted?
My favourite quote- "Mountain biking, I think, is the new millennium’s bushwalkers. It’s for today’s cash-rich, time-poor people." Shhhh, don't tell the missus. She thinks I'm a lowly government employee.
Cascades trail condition
Anyone ridden cascades recently? Want to go but won't bother if the trails are too wet.
Thanks!

Santa Cruz Tallboy vs Yeti SB-95?
If you were going to get your first 29er and narrowed it down to a Santa Cruz Tallboy (Carbon) or Yeti SB-95, what would choose? Both are said to be extremely efficient going up and down, but do you think the Yeti will be more versatile and resilient and worth the wait or would the current Tallboy reviews be enough for you to pull the trigger now?
Canondale mechanic on the Northern Beaches
I was looking for a good mechanic to service my cannondale and found a local northern beaches business called "Ride in Workshop" in Sydney Rd, Balgowlah. Turns out he used to work for canondale and he did a great job for me servicing my lefty and going through the bike with some good advice.
There were all different brands in the shop and road bikes too.
The guys name is Jordan and I can highly recommend him.

Found BBB small pump
On the single track between Terry Hills and the Bahai Temple. Tiny thing so not sure if it's for 7inch rims or if it's a race pump. If you have lost it call Don 0405 801 578. I can leave it at a shop in Terry Hills next week or I live in Drummoyne.

Fork service?
I've put about 1,500kms/75 hrs on my 6 month old MTB, and wondering if I should be thinking about servicing the forks? They are Rockshox Recon Gold Air, and the manual says to clean bushings/replace oil bath/lubricate air spring @ 50hrs, and change oil in damping system @ 100hrs.
What's the view on this - are the manufacturers just playing safe, or is it really advisable to follow their service intervals closely? I've noticed no issues as such, and understand it's an expensive job, so I don't want to do it unnecessarily.
Saddle Comfort
Hi Guys and Girls.
Just wondering whats the best option for saddle comfort for extended riding, say more than 1.5 hours. I am currently using 2XU compression shorts under normal shorts, but this all gets a bit grabby and uncomfortable when you start getting a bit sweaty, making it hard to get "the right spot" on the saddle. I was considering a pair of the Rebel Sport cycling shorts they have got which has the chamois in them. Does this make things more comfy?
Just wondering what others have found the best option.....
Capital Punishment
What's peoples thoughts on this one, is it any good as an event/race? 9km on the black stuff?
Thinking it might make for a good first 100km?
Who's planning on doing it next year?

Servicing hubs and freehub
hi all,
was hoping somebody could help me. i'm looking to service the rear hub on my 2008 giant reign 1 after i noticed it was rolling a bit rough.
i understand that "there are two broad categories of hubs - those that run on sealed cartridge bearings, and those that use loose ball bearings. There is little maintenance you can do to sealed cartridge bearing hubs at home. Standard, loose ball bearing equipped hubs however, you can service yourself without a problem".
Wednesday morning potentail ride
Doddsy still going to head out tomorrow - I drop my kid off at school at about 8 - 8.30 then head out from Drummoyne. Pretty relaxed on start time - what time do you think you could get there?
Langkawi MTB Race - Video
I went to Langkawi with high hopes for a good race this year. I got all sorts of problems which cost me any chance of that. However, I did get a very good Australian 19yr old to ride with my helmet cam for the short track XC race. 85 riders on the startline. Crazy speed throughout. Extremely aggressive.
I s'pose not many Nobmobbers will have done any XCC racing (just 40mins long) so I thought you'd like a view from the very very front.
Danny Macaskill & Martyn Ashton
Martyn Ashton was one of the trial riders, I used to admire, back in the day. Good to see him, still around.
Nothing needs to be said about Danny, which has not already been said!
Saw my first trials bike
Saw my first trials bike in Newcastle, yesterday. It was on the back of a 4by, for some home builder. It was an Echo Bike http://www.echobike.com/. Looked nice. Made me want one. Anyone seen anyone do any trials riding in Newcastle? I never have.
750 edge garmin lost at Mount Annan
I am hoping that someone from the biking community has found it and has for safe keeping. Please post
here so I can arrange its returns.
Thanks so much in advance
